What does Sol do in a low damage weapon

Hello,

I don't have any Sol to burn, but my question is:

If I put a Sol into a 1os dagger which has damage 1-4 what happens?

If damage becomes 10-13 then shouldn't Sol's description be '+9 to damage'? Or will the minimum become maximum so that it becomes 4-10?

If the latter then what happens if I put Sol in 2os hand axe (damage 3-6) and it becomes 6-12 and then I put Ith in it, will it become 6-21 or miracously become 12-15?

Ulla

The dagger damage turns to 10-11. Basically, if a minimum + damage mod would push damage higher than the max is, it also raises the max damage.

Re: What does Sol do in a low damage weapon

iirc, in the case of your dagger (base 1-4 damage), if the min damage goes over the max, the max damage increases, too. I believe the end result will be 10-11 (max damage=min damage +1).

You can see this with Isenhart's Lightbrand. The base damage of a broad sword is 7-14. However, the +10 min damage on the set item makes it look like this:

Isenhart's Lightbrand
Broad Sword
One-Hand Damage: 17 to 18
Durability: 11 of 32
Required Strength: 48
Required Level: 8
Sword Class - Fast Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 58
Fingerprint: 0xe53a7b3
+10 to Minimum Damage
20% Increased Attack Speed

As for the combo of Sols and Iths... weird, but good question. Dunno. :scratchhead:

edit: ninja'ed. I HAD to throw in an example, didn't I?

Re: What does Sol do in a low damage weapon

I'm pretty sure that if a rune/jewel causes the min damage to exceed the max damage, the max damage is simply raised to be equal to the min damage +1 So in the dagger example it would be damage 10-11
In the War Axe example I'm pretty certain it would be 12-13 and the Ith would then make it 12-15 (+9 to the base damage).

I haven't tested it though

EDIT: Beaten to it

Re: What does Sol do in a low damage weapon

All min/max damage, from suffixes, jewels and runes are added to the base (or enhanced damage modified) min/max damage.

If, after all has been added, the min damage is higher than the max, the max damage is set to min damage +1.

Re: What does Sol do in a low damage weapon

I wonder if it's worth to use +minimum damage mods to increase the +damage from a PB Grief? Probably not, but the thought is interesting...

Re: What does Sol do in a low damage weapon

One falacy I'm seeing in discussion of +min is that there's some advantage of having a low max so that the +min can catch up. There's absolutely no reason to sacrifice max damage just so you can have min catch up. Find the weapon with the biggest min you can find and pump it up with +min gear/jewels/charms. Don't worry about the max for the weapon or weither you overcome it or not. The idea should be to consistantly do damage... not to do damage consistantly. The two ideas are non-commutitive.

I haven't seen anyone claim any advantages are to be found with lower max damage.

If you by low max mean tighter range (and therefore lower max, since same type weapons (with the same base speed) usually have very comparable averages) then there is no falacy.
