Viability of PvM rabies

Some time ago I took a rabies druid through /players8 normal. I enjoyed him immensely. Watching things run around and basically kill eachother was Good :) Problem was, he seriously ran out of steam in the end. Especially diablo and baal didn't seem to suffer enough from rabies. Still, I'd really like to recreate such a build.

I've taken a look at the druid guides, and my first impression is that a rabies druid would be pretty hard to do untwinked, which is my intention. A lot of builds seem to rely either on carrion's synergy bug, or some godly weapons to power fury.

So my question is: can a rabies druid be viable in untwinked solo PvM, and if so, what suggestions would you have for an unexperienced player wanting to try this?

Rabies fails hell. Monsters have more hp then even a godly rabies can hurt, besides the fact that almost all monsters in hell are more or less poison immune.

You'll get stalled in act1 by the first fallen you find. Even if you affect all of the fallen in their little camp with a 30k rabies. You'll mabye get 1/4 of their life and once the poison stops, you'll see them start to replenish life.

You can own NM and norm though. I've been helping rushes and fooling around using a 25k rabies with full duel gear on and enjoying watching packs die after a few seconds.

Really Fails in hell without invested wolves/merc doing significant damage and crowd control.

I would like to try a pvm rabies and fully decked out Wolves with a might merc wearing pride. Seems like fun.

That was what I was affraid off. Too bad...

Would a hybrid do any better? Some of the possibilities mentioned here seem nice. Could any of them be viable without tons of rainbow facets and godly weapons?

I don't get it, I make a Single Player fury/rabies druid to try it and see if I wanted to make on ladder. I had well.. really good gear and did 25k rabies. I did a baal run and had absolutly no problems killing anything. How can't it kill anything in hell?

Hey...

Well, I'm no pro at poison chars...
But had a few done, and from my experience, the only thing that really matters is poison dmg per second, not the final output in char screen.

Necro and assassin has a fast working poison - it's easy for them, but druid and ammazon... well - we all know the situation. So for dru and amma it's +x% to poison skill dmg and -x% to enemy resist items are the way to go - not + skills.

Just my 2 cents into a discusion.

You do need good items for Rabies to shine, 60k clears hell no problems.
