Version Question

I wanna jump back into d2 a bit, but not on the realms, nor 1.10.

I was wondering which version is more SP friendly: 1.07. 1.08, or 1.09? I dont plan on trading or anything, just curious what you guys feel.

1.09b was really good, and theres still a portion of the community playing it. gogo players 64

thought i smelled something funky:teeth:

generally speaking the newer a patch is the easier it is. 1.07 is the hardest but a sorc with max frozen orb and cold mastery can kill everything in the game. and then you can max static field too. although theres a bug that stops monsters dropping high TC's. but racks can
1.08 is very similar IIRC
1.09 is well 1.09 and probably the best bet

If you just want to quest a little and have a little fun doing it, 1.09 will be your best bet. Don't know too much about 1.08, but 1.07 has some bugs in it that make the playing experience less friendly. Things you will miss are increasing the player setting, a good merc and monster hit a lot harder as well. This patch does have some very good items though.
1.09 is the easiest patch, make sure you have 1.09b, because in this patch chance to cast on weapons works, in 1.09d not. Watch out for multishot lightning enchanted bosses, they are the most dangerous monsters in the patch. This patch was made for barbeque lovers.

I remember my old meteor sorc in cow levels... mmm tasty!

1.09b sounds good then

can you still up the difficulty and how so?

Haha, I did some experimenting in 1.09 a few days ago. It took my level 1 Amazon about two minutes of constant "uh! uh! uh!" action to kill a Zombie on players 64. How cool!

On p64 how long does it take to level. If you built a cow killer, either a LF zon (what, no synergies) or a IM necro (gogo steel golum) couldn't you get to 99 really quickly?

Compared with players8, you will get about twice the experience at players64, but monsters have 4 times as much life. High players settings are fun in MP games when cows don't present enough challenge at players8, but I think you would find it mighty tedious solo.

I've found Fire Golem + Thorns Merc to better than a Iron Golem. For one thing, my entire army reflects damage, and not just 1 out of 16. Plus Fire Golems are more expendable. Corpe Explosion loses its effectiveness pretty quickly as you ramp up the players setting though. What's the fun of taking detonating 20 corpses to kill 1 cow?

you mean you don't get satisfaction out of making the cows explode?

From patches 1.09d and onwards the maximum players setting in a Single Player game is 8, to replicate the experience of an 8 player game on batte.net.

In the 1.09a and 1.09b patches, you could set the game to simulate 64 players, so monsters generate more experience, and have a lot more life.
