Truncated Life Story/Introduction
'Ello all, I've just been reading up on the stickies and apparently writing an introduction is a good way to introduce myself to the SPF (funny that), so here is my introduction.
I'm Woof, and I'm a New Zealand university student studying design, probably majoring in digital media. I currently have no internet at home and I have to come down to the campus whenever I want to do anything online, so I may be a bit slow on the replies/tourney updates/whatever.
I was first shown D2 in high school, when my group of friends all played it online. Sadly for me, my family computer was too dated to run it, so I never did get to play it with them, although I did get a barbarian to Blood Raven when I played it at a friend's place.
Then just a few months ago my friend/flatmate was digging through some of his old games and stumbled upon his Diablo, Diablo II and LoD disks. Him and my other friend/flatmate had played it before, and encouraged me to start up a character so we could play via LAN. I was hooked.
Now, I'm the sort of person who only plays one game, but plays it to death. Granted, I do dabble in other games, but once I've finished the main questline, I'm usually done with it. For the last 5 years or so, the MMORPG Runescape has been my poison. I was always trying to challenge the leveling system, going for certain skills at the lowest possible character level, that sort of thing. Unfortunately, the number of rude and immature players, as well as a big gameplay update that made any skill distribution possible (imagine being able to put points into frozen orb or lightning fury as soon as you hit level 2) drained all the fun that Runescape had once held for me.
All of this had happened not long before my friend's rummaging brought out Diablo II and LoD from his CD cake, so when I realised there was another game out there which could offer me even more, and which I could play on my own terms, at my own pace, I was sold. Then, to discover D2 has this amazing single player forum community? Wow.
I guess that's enough of my life story, if you made it this far you probably want some D2-speak. I like my characters to be exactly the way I planned them to be, and I really enjoy planning my characters. There's something about planning out the build to the letter, then watching it unfold exactly the way you intend it that I find really satisfying. I like my builds to be either really powerful or really quirky (preferably both ). I get joy out of both plowing through hoards of enemies without breaking a sweat as well as more challenging builds like ones with no vitality.
Since I haven't been playing long and don't have that great of an item collection I'm playing mostly untwinked. I guess I feel like I should either go all out twinking and have all my endgame gear ready before I leave the Rogue Encampment, or not twink at all. As for HC vs SC, I've had a lot of fun with both so far, but I'm finding HC to be really nerve racking, which I love on some days and loathe on others. I think I'm also a bit of an item hoarder, I keep every set and unique item I find, even if it has terrible rolls and I have 7 of them already.
So far I've only played a few classes properly, but I've tried out a Lightning Javazon, a Hammerdin, a Meteorb and an HC Fishymancer. I'm really liking them all, although I'm not liking Mr. Hammerdin's non-directional casting, despite its killing power.
Aaaanyway, I'm sure you all have much better things to do than read about another new guy in the SPF so I think I'll leave it there. Thanks for reading! (do I get a newcomer's chip now?)
