Trouble Installing the Patch

So, I should probably be asking this on battle.net but I forgot to fix my hacked dll for multiple instances before connecting to bnet to get the patch and now my cd-key is banned, preventing me from posting on the bnet forums. (It's too bad they don't consider how long you were connected before banning you. They could figure out I wasn't cheating too much in those 5 seconds, couldn't they?)

Anyway, when I try to patch I get the following error:

Patching cannot be completed because the patch archive is corrupt.
File Name: D2XP_IX86_112a_113a.mpq

I've searched on google and found some other people with the same problem as a result of improper permissions set in Vista. But I'm running XP Home edition as an administrator. I backed up my saves and tried again on a clean install, in case Red Rune words or Rune Word mods were somehow messing things up. But I still get the same error message. I even tried deleting the entire Diablo ii folder after uninstalling, but I'm still getting the same problem.

I'd like to try downloading the patch from another source, but I haven't been able to find one on Google. Is there some legal reason that people haven't posted it yet?

Any suggestions?

Re: Trouble Installing the Patch

Do you have RWM installed? If so, go to your Runewords directory in your Diablo II folder and copy the D2XP_IX86_112a_113a.mpq file to the Diablo II directory. Start the game up and try downloading the patch again. It should work after that.

I can confirm that this works, as I had the exact same problem

Re: Trouble Installing the Patch

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate them!

I reinstalled RWM but didn't see D2XP_IX86_112a_113a.mpq in the Runewords folder.

I realized, however, that I was still using the special shortcut I use for the runewords mod, and so I tried a shortcut that doesn't use -direct -txt or the start in stuff. That did the trick for me.

I'm satisfied with Orange for the runes, so I don't really need RRM. I'm hoping that RWM still works with 1.13.

Re: Trouble Installing the Patch

Okey, good to see that it works! Though I think that the shortcut that to RedRuneMod, instead of Runewords. So it'll be in that other folder. You could have done this without a reinstall of RWM :).

And from what I've read in the 1.13 thread, RWM does not work in that patch, so be careful.

Re: Trouble Installing the Patch

I simply ran D2 from the install dirrectory rather than from a short cut and it patched fine.

I have yet to try to make a runeword to see if RWM is working, but I don't really see a need right now. I wont use it until 1.13 officially is released anyway, so I'll wait until then to worry about it. RRM seems to work fine though.

Re: Trouble Installing the Patch

I'm using RWM with 1.13 just fine. I did things in roughly this order:

1. Changed shortcut to load D2 without RRM/RWM.
2. Let the game install 1.13 beta.
3. Tried to make an 'Insight' Thresher to see if Blizz gives a crap about SP players--the answer was "no". :p
4. Deleted my RRM/RWM directory and installed plain RWM without RRM.
5. Changed D2 shortcut to use RWM.
6. Watched my Gemmed Thresher become a proper 'Insight'.

I was tired and I apologize for this, as it's wrong.

RWM does work fine, like others pointed out. Though ladder runewords don't work without it. In other words: 1.13beta vanilla = orange runes and no Insight and the likes.

Wait, what? Did I just clear a Gemmed Monarch because I mistakenly thought it would never turn in a Spirit again? It was created without RWM, if that makes any difference.

Yeah, you did (sorry). I would have done the same thing, if I hadn't previously read someone point out that a properly runed "gemmed" item would turn into the appropriate RW after switching to RWM.

It seems that a ladder-only RW created with RWM still functions properly as the RW if you remove RWM, and a "gemmed" item created without RWM becomes the proper RW after installing RWM. So it works out nicely both ways.

One thing I can think of is that you need to copy all *.mpq files from your CD to the Diablo 2 folder before patching. 1.12 makes Diablo 2 no-CD, so 1.13 might expect to find some mpq's that are not automatically present after installation.

Re: Trouble Installing the Patch

Umm... hello there, I hope u can help me here if possible. I've got the same problem with patch installation with only difference that Im using Diablo 2 version downloaded directly from battle.net(original discs were... lost) with patch 1.12 already installed. No matter how many times I've reinstalled and deleted the game - nothing seems to work! Copying downloaded installer .mpq files into Diablo's directory prevents patching process from happening at all, leaving me with a message of "corrupt game files".

*Update*
Sorry for making noise - they've JUST added manual installer to blizzard.com, problem solved.
