Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

@ Merlin - How many chars have you lost in this Tournament?
@ Mursilis - Any Luck in H act 5?

Well Nightmare isn't THAT hard, only mana - demanding.
If the Necromancer would have a Bone Orb ( A Spin off of the Ice Orb) I would GLIDE through NM.
Anyway,Corpsefire didn't drop anything good :
Code:
Corpsefire - Blade Talons Of Strength,a Rondache Of Razors.
Coldcrow - Beryl Grand Scepter Of Carnage,Light Plate Of Spikes.
Bishbosh - Shadow Horn Kris (+1 Necro skills,Eth),Hatchet Hands Of The Icicle.
Blood Raven - Rare Giant Sword ( crappy mods),Magic Ceremonial Javelin,Kite Shield,Claws and Maul.
Bonebreaker - Circlet Of Frost Nova,Rare Sabre.
Treehead Woodfist and The Countess - Fail, blue only and all were crap.
EDIT: Thread Has now 400 posts. ..

Just opened a chest with 2 UNIQUE items inside (Glowing chest) and a pack of arrows, never knew that a glowing chest can drop that.

Dang, found two items ( a Long Sword and a Halaberd with 4 OS) witch would be PERFECT for Runewords (Spirit and Insight) but I can't use them without violating the rules :(.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

I have no idea really. Mind you, a few have been cancelled more then died... Filiae_Noce got the No sound act skip bug, and lost the drop. Which made me start Filiae Luxor. My fury druid also didn't die, but failed to follow tournament restrictions. Repeatedly.
And I stopped Hettar because he didn't find Dark Elder (as in, Dark Elder simply wasn't on the map!). Finally, Anheg (who is simply biding time for now) is starting to become more a frustration then fun, which isn't a good sign. I'll probably do one waypoint at a time with him for now.

As for Barbarella, she is at the beginning of act 2. Bone Ash dropped a useless dirk and a light belt with 20% PR, which of course beat the 10% PR one I was wearing. Since Andy was coming up, I gave it a 6 as far as usefulness was concerned.
Charged Strike coupled with Plague Javelin was more then enoguh to help me through the catacombs, and Andy was taken down in about 1,5 minute, without the merc dying or me TPíng out. Her drop, while devoid of any gold or green items, still is a solid 8 as far as I'm concerned. Heavy boots of SelfRepair and a spiked Club of the leech were useless of course, but a rare large shield with 14% LR, all other resists at 5 and dam reduction by 1, as well as 15% FBR and 10% IctB is very nice, a rare light belt with 10% LR as well (I NEED LR with my low life), allthough none of the other mods are useful (perhaps the 10% CtC lvl 3 CB, but that's a stretch). Some rare heavy gloves which gave me 9 LR, some Ar and some enhanced defense were nice as well. The loss of CR from my previous rare gloves (Corpsefire) was nicely countered by a 7% CR and 5% Gold find SC I found. The thing that, apart from the shield, was truly the find of the day was the rare pilum she dropped, which has 5% CtC lvl 1 Amp. dam. on it! +2 min dam and Increased Stack Size are nice as well.

On the downside, so far, no headgear has been found. I shopped two white full helms from Falah. I have decent LR now, allthough all my other resists are lacking (of course). Still, I should be able to clear this act easily. Wish me luck!

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

I never wished for it hard enough I guess... Barbarella 2 died in the desert just outisde of lut gholein, to what it turned out was a Cold Enchanted Dung soldier. I think I need to play a bit more thoroughly...
I'll give some thought to another char.

Ouch Merlin, that's rough. :tombstone: Those beetles are hard on untwinkled characters, it's why I invested a point in Lightning Resist in Act I long before it became a synergy.

No progress for me, still idle at the Frigid Highlands WP. This week has been fairly busy after work so probably won't get a chance to play until Friday.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Unlucky there Big Boss Dude. That's tough stuff!

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Thanks guys... I'm getting REALLY tired of doing Act I normal all the time. It's so... boring.

Lousy bugs... But I never saw a boss, that's the cinch. I just saw more bolts emitting from the beetles, and I could tank them reasonably well. Only later I found out that it was a minion my merc was killing, and my Cold resist was abominable... It was over before I react properly, but it was nevertheless foolish to not expect another bosspack, just because I had already destroyed two spearcat bosses.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Thanks guys... I'm getting REALLY tired of doing Act I normal all the time. It's so... boring.

Tell me about it Merlin.

I, like your self am having trouble with my characters as of late. If you saw in the Midas tournament out of the 5 characters i made only 1 got passed Normal. So i am having trouble with my characters in the early parts of the game. Which is weird because it should be the other way around.

I am trying to alter my playing style a bit to get rid of my rushing and carelessness so i guess i just have to stick with that and see what happens.

Anyway Sorry for your loss Merlin. Just keep trying and be careful .

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Crap, I had just finished a long update on Trudes progress and of course I managed to hit "back". I really don`t feel like writing all that stuff once more(might use notepad or something on future long updates), so I`ll just summarize the important stuff.

Act4: Cleared! Diablo dropped Helplague(+2 Fire skills, wohoooooo:))

act5: Cleared!
Useful drops: Magic damage reduced by 3 circlet from Eldritch.
20%FRW boots from Sharptooth Slayer
Chain mail with high defense from Frozenstein
Plated Belt!!!!! from Colenzo

Cow King dropped the Armor from Vidala`s set, which was much better than my previous armor.

Larzuk quest was used on Sigon`s Guard and stuffed with a perfect diamond.
Personalize quest used on +1 Fireball, Leaf staff(Sigon`s Guard will probably be used on switch with some orb w/ +to cold skills in the end.
I misclicked the imbue quest and imbued a wand that was next to my orb. It was sold for 20 K gold:(

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

In case someone wondered about my sorcs ubergear, I have dumped the info just below here:) I`ll update more of my items from now on, it`s just that normal difficulty kind of bores me nowadays. I don`t think I will try to make a better merc weapon by rolling with a lot of chippies. Might as well wait for a better base item, I guess. The poleaxe is certainly not worthy of an Amn, so the merc will have to be resurrected alot until we find better gear for him.

As for Skill progression. I decided to max Frozen Orb first, and just have one point in Cold mastery. It is soon maxed and then Hydra will get all my attention, Frozen Orb was just much more powerful in the early levels, so I couldn`t resist.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Peeps, I have to get props for at least trying this many times. I have tried another char, and frankly, after a disappointing bishibosh and corpsefire drop, I just despaired and quit it again. There is the bottomline. I can't find the energy to restart this tournament for now. Honest. I need something where I DONT have item restrictions bugging me, so I'll be visiting other tourneys for now. But I am not saying my definite goodbyes!

Sorry, but I had to giggle slightly at your last comment. Considering the item restrictions were your idea. Maybe try a build with less item dependency, such as a Trapper or any elemental sorceress. That was part of the reason I went with a Teslafroster, beyond the resistances I need (which Salvation helps with) the gear isn't absolutely critical. Still, I wouldn't try it naked...

And yes you do get props for starting so many characters. :highfive: Now that's dedication!

Enkidu bundled up and ventured into the artic wilderness, it's quite cold up on the mountainside. Progress through the above ground areas didn't pose too many problems. All of the natural barriers allow Enkdiu to split monster packs up and face them 1-2 at a time. It's the underground areas that cause him the most problems.

Case in point, step into the Crystalline Passageway and what do we encounter, but a champion pack of snakes. Not a fun group but doable, turn the corner and run into this fine fellow....and friends. A double swing from either boss was the end of the merc and required a TP out to resurrect, reenter and get a few more swings in before the merc was knocked out again. Lots of splitting up of packs and running backwards with his tail through his legs for Enkidu. For me personally those Minatour monsters are the bane of all my melee characters. I've died more times to them than to Souls or Dolls. Thankfully neither of these guys was cursed...shudder....

However as a reward a champion bat in the Glacial Trail decided to drop this little beauty. Grailer! Would need to personalize it for this tournament and since Nil isn't done this goes right into the ATMA stash for safekeeping.

Eventually Enkidu found his way back up to the surface and cleared out the entire Arreat Platuea, without finding the WP. Eh? :scratchhead: Apparently he had missed it right next to the exit from the Glacial Trail. Since Enkidu had just cleared the entire area he couldn't stop, but had to proceed onward to the Ancient's way before ending. This was tough since I was tired and the Ancients way was absolutely filled with carvers and their shaman friends. Kept getting resurrected as quickly as I could kill them. But thankfully the WP wasn't too far away from the entrance, so was able to stop for the night. While I may have to rerun a little area, I already see the exit to the Summit so I can skip half of the level as penalty and not break any rerunning rules (hopefully).

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Good job,Mursilis,if it's not a secret ,what strategy are you going to use VS. The Ancients?

As I Destroyed Andariel, she droped a LOT of rare items.Stupid comp didn't save the screenie, but meh.Sold the rare items exceot a ring (which is ultra nice IMHO).
ALso I hired a Lut Gholein imperial defensive guardsmen.
He has a clever name of Azrael (like Izrael).
The drops are HORRID,so I will only add the droplist IF I get a worthwhile item,or I will finish act 2.

I had a little chill in the Far Oasis. If you are interested in it,read on.
So I ran into the Far Oasis like an idiot and found a raptor beast pack. The "Boss" was cursed,so we killed him,but my team got Amp'ed.
So we carried on,and ran into another raptor pack. This time the "Boss" was Cold and Lightning enchanted:whistling:.In around 2 seconds my life wen't from 583 to 13.Thank god for clever-teleports!

Cheers.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Well.......it happens again.

My duo was breezing through Act 4 like a hot knife through butter, the killing speed was awesome and there was little that could threaten us, except Venom Lords, whose Inferno have given me several NDE's (due to poor fire resistance).

So we entered the Chaos Sanctuary and things turned on its head, OK's kept cursing us and making many situations very threatening. As we slowly moved forward and found our selfs into an open situation, we assessed the situation and it looked feasible, so we engaged in combat. A couple OK's loomed the area along with 3 Venom Lords and what was about to happen was unexpected. Flex's life was practically full and in a split of an eye one of he OK's casted Lower Resist on me, this was not good as it instantly put Flex's fire resist into the negatives. As i came to grips on what just happened the 3 Venom Lords unleashed their Inferno's and Flex's life dropped quicker than a heart beat. Not even a ninja could have reacted to it.

Poor Flex, he joins another 28 thousand of my other characters that have fallen in Normal :whistling:. Oh well, just keep on trying and hopefully....dear god hopefully one will get Guardian :\.

Good luck to the remaining contestants especially Mursilis, go boy go!!!

[Highlight] Flex the Dragoon....R.I.P, Level 34, Act 4 Normal, Chaos Sanctuary, Points = who cares [/Highlight]

Ps. I am not sure if i will be re-entering this tournament, i just cant handle a character without MF :p.

Sorry to hear about the deeds Morathi. :tombstone: That's a nasty combo to be hit with suddenly. At least you can take solace in the fact that it wasn't a silly, meaningless death but a well executed trap by the monsters. Nobody would have escaped that.

No secret about what I'll be doing against the Ancients, as I haven't quite figured that out myself. Due to slow kill speed I've been placing all available skill points into Holy Shock synergies and as a result don't have Vigor as an available skill. However I do have a set of Sigon's boots in my stash that have 20% more FRW than my current set. I can't recall however who dropped them so I have to review my notes first.

Pretty much I plan on running around the summit like a chicken with its head cut off until the Ancients are split up, then engage them one at a time. It's not pretty, but up to this point has been fairly effective.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Sorry to hear that Morathi.:tombstone:
I don't know how well will I do in act 4 Nm myself.

Edit : Act 2 Palace = total mess fire horror mages - meh,Ice horror mages = :hammerhead: especialy with - 30% CR.
I hope that the summoner created the portal with the hordes of monsters from hell and not the Harem girls in a slumberparty.
Fire Eye droped a nice low level WW barb weapon ( LL,Poison damage,LR).

@Mursilis. I guess your right, however it is another deeds to add to my growing pile. I just can't seem to get on the D2 gods terms. They always give me bad luck in one way or form.

Edit- Never mind, i miss read what Duke wrote :\.

Join the club of the always dead before they accomplish anything worthwhile is accomplished Morathi... Seems to me like we are the two most prominent members!
Well, feel free to re enter of course. I will too, eventually, but not for now. I started a necromancer in Wakiki's Fighter mage tourney, a tournament w/out item restrictions, and I'm going to take him real slow.

@Mursilis - The last stretch! MAn, I'm rooting for you! And a nice Caduceus too, even though I haven't got the foggiest idea what it could be!

@Duke - Those are so annoying! I had i once with a barb when Nightmare Thresh socket died (he was FE in addition to cursed). I went from Full (Read well over 1K hitpoints) to about 15 or so hitpoints. Good luck in the tombs!

Yes Merlin, me and you are Gold Class members . We should have a competition.....who ever gets a Guardian first wins :smug:.

Yeah i am not sure if i will re-enter this one as i am frankly sick of having item restrictions (this tournament and Waynes, so my last 6 characters). I will most likely be joining the Single Skill tree tournament. Its really perfect for me as it practically guarantee's an unusual/hard build and there is no gear/stat restrictions.

Good luck with your necro Merlin, just take it slow....(i'll try and do the same ).

Apparently my Sigon's boots were from normal monsters, so no gear changes for Enkidu. Stocked up on all of the rejuv potions I had and went looking for the Old men. Enkidu started by doing laps around the Arreat Summit, took three before the ancients split up. Korlic and Madawc followed Enkidu with Talic hanging out somewhere else. I let the ancients dictate who I fought first. Korlic followed Enkidu while Madawc seemed intent on trying to cut through the pillar, so Korlic became victim number one. He hurt, but not terrible so, only had to go through 8 health potions.

Next up was Madawc, who kindly stayed right were he was. Since I wasn't in any rush Enkidu remained standing over Korlic's body while Madawc continued to chip away at the stone pillar. All the while the merc chipped away ad Madawc. Ten minutes later there was only one left. Tried to position Talic so that there wasn't room behind Enkidu to whirl. Was only somewhat successful as Talic kept changing targets from Enkidu to the merc and therefore never stayed put for long. Ran completely out of potions, other than rejuvs but Talic eventually fell, and granted Enkidu another level.

Onward to the World Stone Keep. Going was very slow. Not that the monsters were extremely difficult, but that Enkidu was very paranoid and therefore walked the whole way a few steps at a time. He'd move forward a few steps and then wait a second or two to see what monsters his aura attracted. Made for managable packs instead of being swarmed, especially near the stairs. However he did have to park one boss that healed faster than Enkidu and his merc could damage it. Level one had Hags, Sirens and Skeleton mages. Slow but steady going. From there level two was similar, it contained mages again, Vampires and Souls. I wasn't actually worried about the Souls since Enkidu has 83% lightning resistance, only a Conviction boss could have hurt him and I didn't encounter such a beast.

This left level 3, which I have no idea what type of monsters were present. The stairs down were literally right next to the stairs up, so just skipped the whole group (that's probably where the OKs and Dolls were hiding). The throne level itself contained Snakes, Infidels and Sirens. Not a terrible group, although a pair of bosses gave Enkidu trouble. One was an extra fast, might enhanced snake pack (as if their charge didn't hurt enough already). The other was an extra fast, cursed Infidel pack. Both had to be split up and dealt with 1-2 monsters at a time.

The entire level was cleared so that I had plenty of room to deal with the minion waves. Turns out I didn't need all of the level. Waves 1-2 I lured the minions out of the main chamber to deal with them, then returned to take on the main group. Lots of TPs out after each kill in wave 2 as the poison damage hurt the merc terribly. Waves 3, 4 and 5 were all lured away from Baal and his trigger happy decrepify casting. No major problems.

This left Baal himself, who apparently decided that appendages must cover the floor at all times, since they did. This made for an interesting time as those appendages would cut off Enkidu's retreat more often than not, so he had to be very careful when getting close to Baal. More than once he was completely surrounded and pinned by those blasted things, and always when running low on health potions.

Slowly Enkidu whittled away at Baal's life. Although it took fifteen minutes to get him down to half. Whenever the clone made an appearance, which was often, Enkidu would TP back to restock on potions and repair his weapon before returning. Normally the clone would be gone by then and the fight would continue. And continue it did, even using Holy Shock with it's higher average damage output it took forever to get Baal down to a sliver. Switched on the MF boots and took one last swing before picking up my loot. :strong:

Long Bow - +3 max dmg

If it makes you guys feel any better, I didn't change a single item from the drops I had in Hell, all of it was crap by comparison to what I was already wearing.
