Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Wow... condolences to the two RIPs... sure amazing what can happen in so short a time. Hopefully, the rest of us will continue to have better luck than that. ;)

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Good luck for your new start duke.

ActII done.
After rushing to the cube, I got my first ring drop by the creeping feature. A few cubing later, and I'm the happy owner of a 24 mf amulet. So, i decide to socket my skull cap with 2 flawed topaz, for a total of 50mf on gear. Just after that Radament dropped an isenhart cage. Good defense+defiance merc: not so bad.
I got 5 set items this act by normal monster, but nothing worth personalizing it.
Since lvl 24, fights are very easy, holy shok with 10 pts in light resist aura is violent!
So full clear in p8 again and in the end, Duriel gave my first unique: a dragon chang, and a bunch of rares slow weapons.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

@Thomh - Oi. Thanks, but that's really not necessary! I like thinking up these things, and I'm just happy the lot of you have a good time with it!

@Duke - Let's hope the bonemancer doesn't die... What would he become when resurrected? :) Anyways, RIP for Sir William, and good luck with mr. bonesnap. I'll try to edit the table a bit so the columns look allright.

@Betoka - Nice work there! An MF amulet is nice this early in the game, and in all probability, you did the right thing with the skullcap as well. Let's hope the MF investment will pay off!

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Filiae Just went a cubing. I am starting to notice a slight discrepancy between my number of stashed amulets and stashed rings. See, I have about 4 amulets total left now, whereas I still have about 50 rings. Sigh.

Ok, so what did I end up with? During my cubing, I was forced to get my other cubed legit amulet as well, since I had some... well... good ones :)

My first result was a rainbow amulet of warding (11 to all resists, MD reduced by 2). Nice I thought, but I wanted a ring. No sweat, just take my other amulet, a garnet amulet of the wolf, and cube that up. PRetty soon after I made that decision, I came up with : a Scintillating Amulet (+15 to all resists). Great. Back to cubing the rainbow amulet then. And just before I ran out of amulets, I cubed up yet ANOTHER useful amulet. (meanwhile, I had skipped some decent MF rings. I need to work on buffing my char a bit). I cubed up a Magekiller's amulet. Well, +1 to assassin skills is a definite boon to my char. I have stashed the scintillating amulet and my previous 8%MF rare one, and now have a total of +2 to all skills... Not bad :)

Now I am ready for the palace...

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Sigh. Bad luck on fire Eye. Not only did he nearly kill me with his deaththroes (he was CE and FE, and I was WAAAAAY too close when he went pop.

But, his buddy right next to him went pop that same moment, and he dropped something magical, so there are three magical items. 1 a blue poleaxe, 1 a warhat, and 1 a rare ring. That rare ring was way better then my current rare ring, but, without knowing for SURE who dropped what... Well, I guess you know the deal. No new shiny ring for me. I wrote it down and stashed it, just so I can torment myself with it's juice mods...

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Ouch... sorry to hear that buddy. Good luck in the future though! At least you got a hint that something COULD drop that was nice for you.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Truly. If I am not more careful in the foreseeable future, bosses like that will be the end of me. (FE bug = NASTY)
Ah well. No use worrying about it, eh?

EDIT: In retrospect, I think I was out of range from the Corpse Explosion, but was caught in the fire enhanced frost nova...

Done for theday. Cleaned out the arcane sacntuary, no problems, allthough I managed to trap myself two times in a pack of those yellow ghosts. The Summoner, as usual, was dangerous at a distance, but proved to be very vulnerable to any amount of damage I delivered(probably even my merc with his crappy trident could overcome his regen...)

Finds :
Charms : Serpents GC of Dexterity (Very useful! 50 mana means 14 more then my current GC, and +6 DEX is useful as well)
Gems: Flawless from all kinds, xcept topaz.
Runes: 2* Sol, Shael <---- Awesome luck, 3 good runes!
Set: Cathans Seal (My first! And I allready have 3 angelic Halo's :) )
Unique : Magefist (not much use to me, but I don't think I have HC solid ones(found an ethereal set with my MF barb from waaaay earlier))
Summoner drop : a studded leather of guarding(useless), holy demonhide gloves of readiness(still of little use, I have good gloves in the taboo, and I have rares with +MArtial arts ready in my stash) and a rare war sword (most notable due to 20% IAS and almost 300 AR)

Baal or Bust time. :nervous:

Enkidu ventured into the WSK and what did he find right out of the WP, but Gloams of course. Thankfully none of the boss packs were Conviction enhanced so he survived the encounter and they were actually nice to him for once, dropped a grailer..the Blinkbat's Form. Onward to level 3, which contained nothing of interest. However the last level had....Oblivion Knights, of course. Right down the stairs was an OK boss, guess someone has to be the welcome wagon. Turns out the level had Barlog demons and more Gloams as well. Gloams don't worry me too much with maxed resistances and fingers on the rejuv button. It's the Oks and IM that could cause problems. So Enkidu reverted to his javelins (set of 60). Due to the small stack size he must have returned to town to repair them at least twenty times that level.

The minions waves kept Enkidu on his feet. First Colenzo was FE, so while the merc tanked the minions Enkidu turned Colenzo into a javelin pincushion. Next was the hardest of the groups, Achmel. The entire group simply refused to move away from Baal's steps so Enkidu had to engage them while chilled by the skeleton mages and decrepified by Baal. Needless to say it was a very long fight. Enkidu took to whacking the mages until they eventually shattered, which took about four tries per mage. The rest of the waves didn't pose any problems. The entire level had been cleared out and they were game to chasing Enkidu all over it. As a result they were easily split up and dealt with in 1-2 monster sized groups.

And then came Baal. Enkidu found himself dealing with clones and appendages more often than not. Frost Cone waves and mana stealing breath was constant and Baal continued to teleport away after allowing Enkidu only a hit or two. Coupled with that anytime Baal landed a physical blow Enkidu lost half his life bulb. Needless to say there were quite a few trips back to town to restock on health potions and repair Enkidu's weapon. Near the end of the fight Baal decided to try and cheat Enkidu out of his drop by staying in a bad corner. I had to lure him away, which Baal was reluctant to do and took almost ten minutes before he would step away. Eventually Baal did, and Enkidu pounced, ending Baal's rein.

It was then on to the Moo Moo Farm. The portal ended up right next to the stable so the king was encountered very early. Unfortunately so were a pair of bosspacks, one with the Blessed Aim aura, the other Fanaticism. Ugh. Good thing the walls of the stable are long, they were used to keep the cows separated until they could be dealt with. Unfortunately not the whole level is built like that, so while the merc can tank a small batch of cows, sometimes more than a few come arunning. Oddly enough, had more NDEs in the Farm than all of Act V, the cows were determined to surround Enkidu and he was just as determined not to let that happen.

A few odd things. One was that for once the merc actually survived the fight with Baal, and only needed 2-3 health potions total to do so. :dontknow: Other is that Enkidu found a pair of skillers; a Javelin one in the WSK and a Martial Arts one in the Farm. Strange since I haven't seen a skiller drop in ages.

Now I need to rearrange equipment and see where I want to use my imbune, personalization and socket quest before moving onward. There isn't a clear favorite as to what I want to personalize, much less socket. :scratchchin:

I had to laugh, at first I though you were dead too Duke. Don't worry, we all read the whole post regardless...

Finally figured out what to do with my quest rewards. Decided that my armor needed to be replaced, so personalized the Goldskin I had for 35% resist all elements and a new shiny look. Then used my imbune quest on a war scepter that dropped a while back to generate this little guy:

Raven Brand
War Scepter
One-Hand Damage: 10 to 19
Durability: 70 of 70
Required Strength: 55
Required Level: 37
Mace Class - Fast Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 77
Fingerprint: 0x219f23c2
+2 to Maximum Damage
Adds 13-68 fire damage
Replenish Life +3
+1 to Paladin Skill Levels
+3 to Vengeance (Paladin Only)
+3 to Meditation (Paladin Only)
150% Damage to Undead
+0 to Maximum Damage (Based on Character Level)
+0 to Attack Rating (Based on Character Level)

I took a shot hoping I'd get +skill mods on either Holy Frost or Holy Shock, I failed. And yes I then used the socket quest on this weapon as well. I was having trouble hitting everyone in Acts IV and V so I'm considering putting an Eth rune in there for the -25% target defense mod. Not quite sure yet. :scratchchin:

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

That's just insanity. I have this funny feeling. This funny feeling could be described as the sinking feeling that you get when you realize that you have no idea what a good weapon even feels like in your hand!

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

- Horadric Malus - You may use the reward freely, BUT : You may only imbue a class specific item of your own class. This item may then be treated as a superunique drop.

Verbatim from post 1, Mursilis. In your case, it should have been a paladin shield of some sort. But I'm not going to hold it against you now, especially since you made it this far already. And used your socket quest on this sceptre as well. And you haven't had much luck on the drops from uniques either...
As far as the socket goes, I'd find something that enhanced weapon speed, and take care of AR by use of charms and/or blessed aim mercenary.

@Duke - Ouch. Rip Gumby. Hope his next reincarnation as a clay golem will work out better! :)

I am a bit miffed atm. Game crashed while I was clearing out the last false tomb. So I am going to re enter it tomorrow and try again to clean it out. However, I won't go into the one explored arm :)
Finds - Hel rune, Amn rune, Another Brainhew, a Stormstrike, a Civerbs Ward and a Magnus' skin. Kaa was annoying, due to his additional CE mod, but eventually, he died, and gave me a Deadly Hurlbat of Bashing and a Light Plate of Protection. Nothing terribly useful, but another plate for crafting is nice...

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Well, I finished Act II and so Filiae will be parked while I try to get my sorceress through Act 1 NM in the Midas tourney.

That last bit in the final false tomb was done without any gains (xcept for lots of cash due to many exceptional armor pieces dropping). Enter the true tomb. Well, in total I think I faced less hero packs in the true tomb then in any one of the false tombs... the thing was virtually depopulated! It made for a boring experience, gorebellies, ghoul lords and unravellers (no surprise there. Every tomb I visited had unravellers).
Then enter duriels hideyhole.
That went pretty much the way I expected. I spent about 190000 coins resurrecting my mercenary (27K exactly each resurrect, I think he died 7 times) Add the thawing potions I had to restock and the greater healing potions as well, it made for a pretty number. But it came as no surprise that Duriel would butcher my mercenary on p8 :)
He finally died after a rather uneventful fight. I didn't expect much of his drop, since he rarely drops good for me, and I already had a killer andy drop and diablo drop.
My low expectations came true. an ethereal blue gladius, a ethereal rare defender(which probably is the most useful item of the bunch) with +10 all resists and fire at 20%, a rare mask with +2 shadow disciplines but little else useful (and since my shadow disciplines are used for little else then CoS and Fade, I don't see the point of swapping out the tarnhelm), a rare eagle orb and a unique broadsword, Griswolds Edge. My merc won't need it, I certainly don't want to swap that marvellous flail out for it, and the scissors katar diablo dropped stay as well, those have better stats then that sword.

The act was most notable for me due to good rune drops (several Amn and Sol and Thul, and a Hel and a Shael as well). I am looking forward to act III, to be honest. Especially, if I make it that far, the council members! :)
Equipment wise, little changed for me, so I saw no need to bore you with a rehash of that list. Therefore, I'll leave you with my total equipment drop list in this act, and my score.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

Nice drop Duke!

Just to clarify the imbue rule, only the following items can be imbued. And they can only be imbued by the class listed behind them.
Primal Helms - Barbarian
Druid Pelts - Druid
Paladin Shields - Paladin
Shrunken Heads - Necromancer
Orbs - Sorceress
Katars - Assassin
Amazon only Bows, Spears, Javelins - Amazon.

This means the following items do not qualify for imbueing - Sceptres, Bone Wands, Staffs. All of those can be wielded by all classes, even if they only spawn with skills for one specific class on them.

If there is any question about this, feel free to ask.

Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes

The Smith(p8): 2os Spiked Club, Spiked Club, Wrist Blade of Worth (+1 Min. Damage)

One more super down, after just about three rejuv's later. Zeal on this guy is so much fun, itt almost makes it too easy. Echidna's drops were crap again, but maybe he'll be able to find something to do with that 2os club that will make up for the lack of anything better at this point. clvl 15 has been reached.

Made it to Jail Level 1, after almost dying to Mages three times. I HATE LE bosses.

So now I am going to rest there a bit to calm my poor nerves after almost losing this character that many times.
