Re: Tournament: The emperor's clothes
Here below lieth the history of an unfortunately named child who was raised in an unfortunate way, hoping to someday become fortunate.
It all started on an uneventful rainy day when a child was born. His parents were in a very weird mood when he was born and he got stuck with a weird name as well, Echidna. So, a new life was brought into this world, already with basically no luck. As he grew, he realized that he wanted to make a difference in the world, wanted to change something for the better. And so, he decided to be a Paladin. But here, he was also thwarted as well. His parents, thinking that it would be a bountiful experience for him, signed him up for a tournament in which he was limited as to the gear that he could wear. However, determined nonetheless, he decided to push on. After all, it couldn't get any worse, right?
And so our hero's story starts:
Act 1 - Normal
Started in on p8, thinking he could handle the huge amounts of forces that would be thrown his way even though he was equipped with littel more than a broadsword and a simple shield. After clearing the Blood Moor and filling in some of the gaps in his armor, still attempting to stay within tourney rules of course, he ended the clear at clvl 4. So, thinking that he had enough experience now to handle the Den, he headed there.
clvl 4:
Skills:
Sacrifice - 2
Might - 1
Stats:
Strength - 28
Dexterity - 22
Vitality - 36
Energy - 16
DEN OF EVIL:
Corpsefire(p8): Amulet of Craftsmanship (+1 Max damage), Cap of Self-Repair (1 every 33 sec. / def 4).
Horrible drops, but the amulet wasn't too bad and it filled a spot, so that was nice.
Finished the Den at clvl 6 with the following:
Skills:
Sacrifice - 2
Might - 1
Holy Fire - 1
Unused - 1
Stats:
Strength - 33
Dexterity - 27
Vitality - 36
Energy - 16
Bishibosh(p8): Bronze Leather Gloves (+12 to Attack Rating / def 4), Tangerine Quilted Leather Armour ( +6% Lightning Resist / def 8), Javelin of Blight (Poison damage over seconds).
This guy surprised me, I was just clearing the zone, forgot he was there and then BOOM! he was dead. At least I got some body armor from him, I suppose... though luck would have it that I'd get lightning resist when I don't actually have any lightning resist to +6%...
Sold the useless Javelins.
More of Echidna's bad luck, I suppose.
Destroyed him at clvl 8
Coldcrow(p8): Snake's Wand (+2 Amplify Damage, +6 Mana, +60% damage to undead).
Wow... for such an annoying person to kill, that was almost pointless. Echidna's luck is continuing to be horrific. This is definitely a sell item and when you spend the entire time frozen, it's a pain in the freaking neck, for sure. Oh, well... at least it's one more super down. Starting to feel like the antagonist in The Incredibles.
Stats clvl 9:
Strength - 40
Dexterity - 32
Vitality - 38
Energy - 16
Blood Raven(p8): Preserved Head of Light (+16 AR, 2-7 Poison damage over 3 seconds, +1 Light Radius), Beryl Cap (Poison Res +8%), Crimson Hard Leather Armour (Fire Resist +7%, def 21).
Another necro drop! One would think that I should have been a necro and perhaps things would be going better for me personally. Oh,well, I guess life will continue. Another large annoyance about this particular boss kill was the fact that although everything she dropped herself was okay, one of her minions dropped a gold Pain Dart (1-2 extra damage, +30% undead damage, +46 AR against Undead, 2 cold damage), which would have made a great short bow for my new merc. Bah... Echidna's luck is still legendary.
Stats clvl 10:
Strength - 46(45)
Dexterity - 36
Vitality - 38
Energy - 16
Bonebreaker(p8): "Viper Jack" Leather Armor (Def 29, +10% ED, Cold +6%, Fire +6%, Attackers takes 1 Damage, Repairs self 1 every 33 seconds, Ethereal), Tangerine Quilted Armor (Def 8).
Finally, a decent drop for a paladin. Perhaps Echidna's luck is finally moving in a positive direction. That's just a hopeful thought probably, but you never know. The Viper Jack went to himself and he replaced the merc's armor with his own Crimson Hard Leather. The other one went to Akira, which was a good thing, because Echidna didn't want storage taken up by blue junk.
Stats clvl 11:
Strength - 44
Dexterity - 38
Vitality - 39
Energy - 16
Rakanishu(p8): Ring of Craftsmanship (+1 Max Damage), Axe of Quality (damage 3-6 with +1 Max Damage).
Well this really could have gone better, to be honest. For one thing, he surprised Echidna again, not expecting him to be there, but he took him down relatively quickly anyway. The strategy for killing this particular super was the same as all Echidna's strategies with lightning enchanted things. Run away and let the merc hero smack it with arrows and dodge the lighting bolts! It was a sad drop and the Axe replacement was not in Echidna's advantage. So now he's gotten a worse weapon with which to take on Tristram. This just gets better and better for poor Echidna.
The kill of this particular super, however, did get him clvl 12, which enabled him to start using Zeal!
Treehead Woodfist(p8): Small Charm of Shock (Add 1-3 Lightning Damage), Small Shield of Blocking (Def 10, CTB 46%, +16% Faster Block, 10% increased chance of block).
This wasn't bad, could have been better though. The shield was definitely an upgrade and the first shield drop so far for Echidna. Will probably continue using the charm, simply because all the damage I can get right now that's elemental the better, right? So anyway... this guy snuck up on me too, and then mobbed me with a bunch of carvers and Hunters. Bah...
This all happened at clvl 13!
Griswold(p8): Tangerine Dirk of Flame (Add 1-2 Fire Damage, Lightning resistance +8%).
Well, absolutely horrific drops, but that's okay. There were two white items that dropped as well, including a Jawbone Cap, not that it will do this poor paladin any good. On the bright side, the merc kept him frozen the whole time so it was easy to zeal on him and watch him die quickly without really getting hurt at all. Oh, well... another super kill to bring Echidna up to clvl 14.
