I think that fits in with what's been recommended. I'm trying out what is going to be a blizz sorc (Nudine) and at level 7 she goes through her mana supply fairly quickly so she still needs a staff. I picked a gray long staff with no +skills or any other mods, and fitted it with chipped ruby and emerald. When she can get by without the staff, I'll get rid of it.
