Top 5 untwinked builds

I was thinking about starting up a new set of chars from scratch totally untwinked and unrushed. I have a pretty good idea about what chars i´m going to make, but I thought it could be fun to make a list on what characters that has the best chance of reaching lvl85 or higher without to much trouble.

Here are some candidates:
Hammerdin
Furyzon (with walk)
Meteorb
Wind druid
Lightning trapper (with sm)
Bonemancer (with golem???)
Firebear (max fireclaws)
Firesorc

Did you notice that most of my choices are casters and that I have no barb on the list. It´s just because i think a caster is less dam/armor/life/block dependent then a melee char.

ps. this is my first tread on this site :howdy: ds.
 
skelemancers with max corpse explosion are very easwy to play untwinked as not a massive reliance on plus skills and resists

So if a caster has less dam/armour/life/block than a melee char, what does it have more than a melee char besides mana :scratch:

Only your hammerdin can make it through hell! :surprise:
But if you're planning to play those other chars with your friends, you've got to make sure theres someone to cover up your weaknesses. I think javazon might be a bit too hard to play untwinkled too. I made one, and it blew. Could barely pass NM, and cant last in Hell. You should rethink about that bonemancer too. There are really strong in PvP, but sadly, burn too much mana to kill hell monsters. All your chars there except hammerdin ( :rant: ) have atleast one big flaw or weakness that makes it impossible to PvM unless you go around with atleast one other person.

Skelemancers are super fun to play with though

Skelemancers are super fun to play with though

metor orbs are great untwinked you've just got to know how to play them. and they can easily make it everywhere in hell. all you need is to keep your merc up with you lvl wise and give him so decent stuff you find such as lifeleech and ull be fine.
 
Add my vote to the skelemancer. The sorcs might have a shot, but in order to make it they need a good merc, who's gear is going to cost some. Still, you could probably get all you needed from forge drops and gem collecting.

The furyzon needs one piece of gear (need I say the T word?) Get those javies and she is viable as well.
 
My strafer does pretty well in hell and she is completely untwinked (that’s when i lost my LoD CD and played classic for a while). She used what she found and got by pretty well. Though i have yet to convert her to the expansion and she might get deleted due to space allocation. But still, she worked.

while i agree a skelemancer is the best choice, metorb sorcs can certainly do well even without a merc and good items. a leaf does wonders for a metorb sorc balance that with a plus cold skills ammy or a plus 1 sorc skill ammy and shes very viable. plus with the sorc comes teleport and the posibility for extremly good mf helping you to move faster. most of what you find you could trade to get better equipment lets say at least a sigons maybe even a lidless. you can often times find decent stuff to trade with even from doing nm mephy runs.

That was just my top five. I'll admit that a lot of builds "can" solo Hell Untweaked. Some might even be better than my picks, but those are my picks.

PLZ EXPLAIN HOW A BLIZ SINGLE ELEMENT CAN SOLO ALL PARTS OF THE GAME UNTWINKED. WITH OUT A DAMM GOOD MERC SHE CAN'T SOLO THE GAME SORRY. AND TO HAVE A GOOD MERC YOU NEED TO BE GOOD.
 
Lightning Fury zon can killed with a cracked javelin and be otherwise naked. Just get a high-level valk to tank.

I'm personally so addicted to teleport that I'd only use a sorc if I couldn't have enigma, at least if I plan on doing a lot of any kind of runs (MF, experience, etc).

Um, run past the immune monsters? That's what I do (example: fire immunes in stony field when I gotta get the leg - I have to circle around the stones once to drag them away from the portal). He said get to level 85, not kill everything you find. Just gotta keep in mind what immunes live where you plan on doing your high-level leveling.

not that it'd be fun, but no bosses are cold immune. So liberally use teleport. If an ancient spawns cold immune either let your merc take care of him or respawn till none are cold immune. Plus you'd have static as well.
 
im not sure about you guys but with out a good merc i cant get past act2 because of all the cold imune chargers when you go to get the amulet. they can be dodge a bit with teleport but eventually you will die. without good equip for merc he becomes relatively easy prey also. there comes a point of where your in a lock down even with faster hitrecovery you can't quite dodge it all.
 
From personal experience: a Skellimancer, a meteorb sorc and a hammerdin are very easy to play untwinked. (and i'm not the most skilled player out there ;))
 
i know ill probably hang for this idea... the act 3 mercs (have mercy upon my soul) could own if they had a couple o +skill eqs? couldnt they? :S i mean.. if any1 of u have a character editor offline.. CHECK OUT THE MASSIVE NUMBER OF CHARGED BOLTS!! thats why you make a poison necro with lower resist.. that could make it past hell couldnt it? the poison necros skills arent untapped until u get deaths web.. 3 trangs items.. allot of +skills and BRAMBLE which isnt really what i call unthwinked :D but anyways.. if u need help.. ur lower resist kick off the most immunities

One of Ancients is ALWAYS cold immune in Hell difficulty.

We are talking about untwinked so Enigma is not relevant here. Lightning zon with maxed Valky can do well but LF feels best after slvl 30 and it´s not very likely to reach it by an untwinked build... and than IMO LF is a awesome secondary skill for strafer (in Hell dif) but not more than it. An ama needs a bow what means that she must be extremaly lucky or twinked.

I personaly experimented with all mentioned builds in untwinked form. My conclusion is that Orb - Fireboll sors is best, necro (skelly or bone) is possible to play but too slow for my temperamen (;)) Trapsin is of course godly in NM but an untwinked trapsin in Hell is... just a hell. Hammerdin - LOL. Untwinked hammerdin - LOL*100. Wind druid - works. Firebear and Firesorc - as always with one-element-canons: they are paper canons in Hell.
I think that you forget a zealot. 4 points in Zeal, max HS, max HS or HF, max Convinction and Sacrifice (as synergy) - untwinked works better in Hell dif than fire sorc, trapsin and hammerdin together.

I disagree with this.

If you rely on the merc and give them good weapons (hint, hint, socketed bows, hint, Savage polearms...) even a skill-less build shouldn´t have much trouble reaching late Normal (level 45+) even on /players 8.
