I've seen from time to time folks mention "Pit runs".

I'm not sure what or where that is. Are you talking about the Inferno Pit that can be found in act5?

Pits are located in Act 1 Tamoe Highland. They're special because the have the same high level as harder places such as Chaos Sanc and WSK, but the monsters there are much easier.

Nope, they're the same as the WSK or Chaos or River. It's just great because the Pit's so easy to clear in comparison.
