ThrowBarb against Hell Baal

Hi,

have just outfitted my ThrowBarb (SP, Level 88) for doing some Hell Ball runs and would like to know what could be improved.

He's wearing now:

- Harlequin Crest with UM
- Duriel's Shell upped with 15% IAS
- Laying of Hands
- GoldWrap Belt
- Gore Rider Boots
- Demon Limb / +4 Barb skills on switch

With assorted jewelry and charms he got the following mods:

- Cannot Be Frozen
- 75 res all
- Teleport
- 6 fpa
- 10 minute Level 23 Enchant
- 150 secs BC/BO/Shout
- about 180% MF
- 350% damage to Demons
- 10%OW, 15%CB, 15%DS, 13%LL

Might Merc is wearing Reaper's Toll, Delirium Helmet and upped Duriel's.

Fully pre-buffed/Enchanted and with Might Aura he looks like:

- Life 2200 RES ALL 75
- DEF 7569

Left Right
Max Dam 6222 8631
AR 22244 11612

Any ideas for improvement?

Regards,

Oliver

What throwing weapons do you use?
IIRC you cant get +4 barb skills on a weapon. so is it an echoing weapon?
if you dont need the IAS from gloves to hit a BP how about draculs?
why not arreats face? IMO its ALOT better than harly for barbs.

also keep a tgods and a gullimanes face in your cube in your inven. tgods incase gloams spawn and the gullimanes for speeding up baal with CB

Crafted winged axes with (left 22-234 dam, right 76-337). Two flying axes
with +2 each on weapon switch for pre-buff.

I don't have neither Dracul's nor Arreat's Face, so I make do with what I have.

Perhaps Baal drops me one of these. Also my first run just now only got me two
lousy blues..

i'll send you a draculs and an arreats face for the cost of your email address. as well as any other gear you might be after, if it i have it:thumbsup:
lol im a nub. i assumed you meant you had a single +skill weapon and a demonlimb on switch.

Guess I'm a nub too, I thought the same as Corax. I've never used or seen a Throw Barb, and I have no Idea what gear they need, so I'll just agree with Corax.

IMO this is a fairly good set-up that shouldn't be too hard to get.
Helm: arreats um'ed or IAS j00l'd
gloves: draculs
boots: gore rider
belt: string of ears, with thundergods stashed for gloams
rings: ravenfrost and a rare dual leech resist ring
amulet: highlords or metalgrid
weapons: dual warshrikes. without other IAS they hit 5FBP. with 10 more ias they hit the 4.5BP awesomeness
switch: +3warcry weapons.
armour: with this set-up you'll be lacking resists so anything with good resists. gloom could be good. um'd guardian angel if you have lots of res charms. could stick with the duriels and then replace the raven with a good rare or somthing like bulkathos

merc:
might
elite eth crescent moon. the lifetap from draculs will keep him alive and this will uber up your kill speed.
shaftstop
either zamp gaze for leech and -%PDR ot gullimanes for CB

get some lacerators on your switch or as your main weapon, the amp bonus is simply too amazing to pass on....

invest some skill points in.... euhm crap, the one where the enemies run away from you, or in the grim ward, these two frightning your enemies so you can hit them in the back ;)

but lacerators are pwn for throwers, mine had 2 eth on his weapon switch ^^

*Insert gloatage rights for strijdje* i dont think ive ever even SEEN elite throwing weapons. even normal ones.
the reason i didnt suggest the lacerators for the amp was because if he uses draculs there'll be lots of overwriting curses going on and it gets annoying

its howl strijdje. where they run away:teeth:

Dracul's isn't a good idea on a ranged character. You shouldn't be hit that often, if at all. Against packs of angry frenzytaurs, warcry them once or twice and everything except the big guy will be stunned. The laying of hands is pretty powerful from what I've seen, once they're decrepified, that's (edit: where's my math gone) +525% weapon damage to demons.

If you're rich like a certain someone else here :uhhuh:, you can go with lacerators, but if you're just poor like the rest of us, the only thing you can do is rely on time. Theoretically speaking, with your weapons and the reaper's toll going off, the only things that should be able to annoy you out of your mind are those flayers that like to spawn in swarms of 5000 and more.

Last thing: Razortail, get it, love it, only take it off when you're being fried by black souls.

Draculs are overrated IMO for throwbarbs. I've never once wanted or needed Lifetap going through hell even through baal with only the 6% LL on my arreats.

My merc had a Reaper's Toll so the decrep was really nice - I prefer using a merc's decrep over amp on lacerators, as it frees up more weapon tab space for more throwing weapons (you can never have enough quantity). The monsters that fall quick, do just that, and for the ones that are tougher - your merc has plenty of time to get in there and decrep them so they'll fall even faster. The decrep was really nice against Baal, as well.

Keep in mind that for really great crowd control, once you hit level 80, you can howl away all monsters in the game - one quick warcry and the monsters are running away. It's real nice for those times when you're amp'd and are up against might, extra fast, fanatacism, etc.

Here's my throwbarb setup, but he's not tailored towards baal runs (although I probably wouldn't change much):

Taranth

120 Str (+20 Arreats)
150 Vit
+Dex

Might Merc - Reapers Toll, Vamp Gaze, Gloom Eth Elite

4x Gimmershred

Arreats Face - ED
Highlords
60 IAS Armor (30Res/60 IAS +Life Armor <-- my new kickass armor)
KB/IAS Gloves
Raven Frost
AR/ResAll/ML ring
Razortail
Goreriders

6 10 max charms
6 resist all charms

Lvl 99
20 Mastery
20 Double Swing
20 Shout
20 BO
14 Double Throw
1 Natural Resist
1 Axe Mastery
1 Grim Ward
1 Leap Attack
1 Frenzy

Lvl 80
20 Mastery
20 Double Swing
20 Shout
15 BO
1 Natural Resist
1 Axe Mastery
1 Grim Ward
1 Leap Attack
1 Frenzy

Note that even without my 30 resall/60 ias armor, I still have max'd resists for lightning and fire, and have 45 for cold and poison. I am tempted to make some ED/IAS armor for this guy sometime, but the jewels are a little too expensive, wanted and rare.

After BO, life is about 1600 (will be 1800 with my new armor). You really don't need much more since you're usually away from all the action - and the extra damage is really nice.

Endgame damage at lvl 84 was 1700-9100 with my might merc, killer huh? PIs were no problem thanks to all the elements on Gimmershred. I expect the damage to probably hit around 1800-9700. With some ED/IAS armor instead, I'd end up hitting 10k!

Would you be running Baal for mf? or exp? I know everyone is voting for Arreats, my barb uses it too but if you're going for mg, its hard to be a P-topezed shako.

Possibly switch LoH for a good blood gloves with ias? If you can reach another BP, the increase in %CB and speed may be better + you can mf too

+6 echoing instead of +4 barb skills? The only skills to pre-buff are all war-cries.

I didn't have reaper's toll so I went simply with vile husk on a barb merc. I don't think pts in Grim ward are necessary with your merc casting curses all th time but the 1 pt is still usefull.

Nice weapons. I use crafted winged axes too. Took me ages to craft them and then I still got laughed at cos my barb was named Spearthrower

CM is a nice idea.. I'd really like that level 13 Static field..

I don't have most of the items you mentioned, so I gotta make do without them.

My Enchantress (with Demon Machine = 99% pierce) has my only one. As soon as I find another one, he'll get it..

Oliver

I have an arreats and probably a razortail i can send you. for the price of your email

mostly for MFing and as a proof of concept.
I prefer Delirium helmet on my mercs, as then I need no other sources of crowd control.

When I find +3 warcries weapons, they'll go on.

Blood gloves are nice, I'm waiting for 20%IAS, 10%CB and some MF%.

for Baal, I now have Kingslayer axe and Shield on weapon switch. With Conc attack, Baal really goes down fast. 48% Crushing Blow combined with Laying of Hands 350% damage against Demons...

My thrower barb is still in A4, I'll soon know how good he is in A5 and against hell baal.

My current gears are:

Arreat's Face (simplely the best, do you see one "bad" mod on it?)
Razortail (again, since you are going to throw weapons, it is the best)
Cleglaw's Pincers (two of the very powerfull mod, knockback is a "must", slow is more powerfull than you think on throw build)
Gore Rider (the best boots)
Raven Frost x 2 (very best IMO:AR, CBF, +Dex, cold absorb, +cold damage)
Mara's Kaleidoscope (I like it very much, +skills, all res, just what you need)
Guardian Angel - upped (IMO the best armor, having 90% resist all is awsome)
Lacerator (unless there is something better, and I could find it, this is very good weapon)
Rare Flying Axe (it has okay damage, I don't have anything better than it yet)

On switch: Gimmershred x 2 (the best weapon against PI)

What if I could have to make him better: a rare flying axe with +2 to barb skills, hugh ED, replenishes quantity, IAS.

*until now, I have exactly ZERO deah on this build, not even merc death yet. I'd say he is very good build.:D

well, as much of you might know, i have a throw pvp barb on sp.. pretty much can see he is the best pvp throw barb around in sp,

i did rush him, cause i didnt wanted to waste one stat or skill point, but as not so many of you might know, i have a pvm thrower aswell

i used a simple tactic for him, if they have there back towards you, they cant hurt you right?

so i made thrower based around, knockback, howl/grimward, and flee on hit.... some points in WC for stunning and such...

lacerators off course, for the amp damage, and mostly ias based build...
ias/ed/life armor, ias/res jewel in arreats, razortail, sow... maybe if thats something for you, try that out :)
