So I'm trying something new with my Summoner and going for full area clears.

Let me start by saying that I don't think that's going to last. Sure, I'm getting good experience and I'm maximising my chances of finding crap but it's boring as hell. I'd rather be running through killing what I can and getting through the acts.

Right now I'm up to the Tamoe Highland when I know I'd have been finished with Act I already and onto my Amazon.

I've already managed to find a Rixot's Keen which will be handy for my Amazon when she makes Slayer and I'm surviving on socketed items and some really good whites that have dropped. In fact it's odd... both my wand and my necro head are EXACTLY the same:

+1 Raise Skeleton
+3 Skeleton Mastery
+1 Bone Armour

I just found the head replacing my old +1 Skeleton Mastery white and thought it looked familiar.

I stopped fully clearing Carpe_Corpsum after the Tamoe Highland and pushed on through to the end of Act I.

I decided to level Bowyah traditionally by killing only what I came into contact with and running Tristram, Rakanishu and Treehead Woodfist for easy experience. Act I was a breeze for her and she never really looked like dying. Her 10 points into Poison Javelin decimates practically everything and I can't wait for Poison Explosion to really move through the mobs.

Next up is FistsOfFurry, who I'm sure is going to be tough. I forgot how skill-intensive Elemental Summoners are, so I'm going to have to do a bit of research to get him going untwinked.

Well, here we are: Liz puts first steps to early Act III, with the rest of the team parked in Lut Golein, and the closest to her in the competition is still messing around with Andariel. And I thought I was playing conservatively.
Psycho - if I beat you to Act V with all four toons, you're changing your avatar to a three-legged tortoise. What the hell is taking so long?

Hardcore lesson 102 peeps. Never mess with giant slugs with glowing red eyes. Especially ones that offer directions to the Prime Evil of your choice.
First official near-death experience of course goes to Duriel. After repeated static-fields, that oversized mollusc decided to ignore my mercenary and take a chunk out of my team's leading lady - a pointed reminder that WoW agro mechanics do not work in D2. If it hadn't been for my insistance on levelling to 24 before taking on Duriel, Liz would have been making a very early stage left.

Each of my toons passed Act I with no apparent difficulty. Especially Audrey - I always do enjoy early level assassins, they're suprisingly safe to play, which is why I'm always puzzled when I struggle with them in late Nightmare/Hell. All 3 melee characters in the team performed, dare I say it, better than the sorceress. Very unusual for me.
But Duriel remains the melee-class gatekeeper. I think I'll be running some normal Meph on Liz, hoping for some decent +life armour pieces or charms, before I run that gauntlet with any of the others.


Early uniques include Bloodfist, 2 pieces of Cleglaw's set and a Ravenclaw. All of which have been fed to the giant squid.

You had me fooled on MSN thinking someone had fallen to a mighty Slug-charge, you mongrel ;)

And if anybody's wondering, just for the sake of clarity; CraZySorc is abiding by the rules by keeping his characters in Act II while finishing off Mephisto at the end of Act III. As long as he doesn't move onto Act IV there is no rule breakage because in theory everyone's still "1" act's distance from each other :)

First 2 toons in Act II, now on to the sorc. Pity she can't farm the countess for a ral and make a 'leaf'. Some early finds include a Felloak(tc3), i know i'm playing self-found but i'll keep a price stash anyway just to see what i can find. UberAss has also found 2 cleglaw's pieces.

Started yesterday with my war cry barb and he cruised through act 1 smashing everything with either sword or mace class weapon I could find. Used howl and taunt a whole lot and after lvl 18 cant remember the name of the war cry at work but lowers the damage with 26% and their defenses with more than 50%, very useful.
Will see if I continue with her abit through act 2 aswell before next character.

have about 5 more hours of slavery at work before I can continue

Decided to move Carpe through Act II and didn't really have any trouble at all. Even Duriel was remarkably cool, calm and collected as my minions tore through what anal cavity was left in the giant slug. That being said he did decide to chase me around the room for a little while before summoning a few easily killed Clay Golems on top of him.

I managed to gamble a very awesome rare 3 slotter from Elzix at the beginning of the act; shown below with my wand and head:

Good to see my old friend Psycho has finally caught up. Although I do remind him I'm playing 4 toons to his 3.

No point updates today, just slow and careful grinds. Liz gets a single level to 25, but maps out much of the jungle to prepare for her run on Mephisto.
Audrey hits level 18 thanks to expensive, frustrating but ultimately rewarding players-8 Andariel runs - yeilding several rare spear/polearm class weapons and several rare throwing axes. At least for now I can avoid dropping back to ATMA to swap merc weapons every time I change toons.

Edit: For the record - as discussed in the signup thread, this is not 'single pass'? Or has Liz's mapping run, performed before Audrey's return to Andariel, skipped outside the rules slightly? Please throw the rules up on the first page to prevent further confusion, best to hash these out in Normal diffuculty before we start playing for items of value.

Tournament Rules

Character Restrictions

Choose three characters - all characters MUST be of a different class
ALL characters are to be Hardcore
Living characters must stay within ONE Act of each other
Characters can ONLY utilise two skill trees, not all three

Character Restriction Additions

Vanilla 1.12a and FAM divisions will be run separately. Please state in your posts what division you will be participating in.
Players must specify whether or not they are participating in a 'Self-found Grail' or if they prohibit themselves from trading with other players. If that is the case prize stashes from these players will not be collected but they may not receive prizes either.

Item Restrictions

Items can be bought from ALL Acts and difficulties
Items used may ONLY be Normal, Magic and Rare
Crafted, Runic, Set and Unique items CANNOT be used on characters or mercenaries at any point except outlined by the 'Character Rewards' section, below
Skills granted by an item for a skill tree that you do not use CANNOT be used if that item is equipped (IE: if a Sorc is using Fire and Cold skills and picks up an Orb with +1 Teleport on it, the Orb can be equipped but the Sorc may not use Teleport). This also includes inherent skills from socketed items made into Runic items and 'for-all-character' skills present on such Runewords as 'Enigma'.
Items with Passive skills for the Skill Tree you have NOT chosen that provide an ACTIVE bonus to your character may not be equipped (IE: if a Sorc is using Fire and Cold skills and finds an Orb with +1 Lightning Mastery on it, the Orb can be equipped as Lightning Mastery provides no bonus to Cold or Fire skills. However if a Sorc using Cold and Lightning skills and picks up an Orb with +1 Warmth, the Orb cannot be equipped as Warmth provides a Passive bonus to Mana Regeneration).
Charges are perfectly acceptable

Character Rewards

Players are given the option of equipping Unique, Runic, Set and Crafted items in an item slot of their choice when they:

Have made Destroyer
And again when they've made Conqueror
The rule of thumb for muling items is that once an item is muled off into/onto a prize stash/stash character it may not be muled back onto your tournament character. If you intend to use any Unique, Runic, Set or Crafted item or any Gem, Charm, Rune or Jewel at a later date for your tournament character it must stay on one of your living tournament characters.

The item slots available are as follows:

1. Headgear (includes Primal Helms and Animal Pelts)
2. Body Armour
3. Belts
4. Gloves
5. Boots
6. Shields (includes Paladin Shields and Necromancer Trophies)
7. Weapons (includes Sorceress Orbs and Amazon Bows/Javelins/Pikes)
8. Jewellery 1 (Amulet)
9. Jewellery 2 (Single Ring)

Or if you wish you may decide to forego ALL character rewards in exchange for this at Conqueror:

10. The Mercenary Package (Headgear - including Primal Helms for Act V Barbarians, Weapons and Armour - includes Shields for Act III Eastern Sorcerers)

There are two milestones that will allow you to equip Unique, Runic, Set or Crafted items onto your character and that is when reaching Destroyer and Conqueror status. You may only choose ONE DEDICATED ITEM SLOT per milestone. Not only that but the two item slots you plan to use must be decided BEFORE playing that character. For example:

A player using a Barbarian decides to choose '7. Weapons' as his slot reward for making Destroyer and '2. Body Armour' when he has become Conqueror. This now CANNOT be changed once he has commenced playing the Barbarian. If this player happens to find a Unique or Set Body Armour for his Barbarian (or creates a Runic/Crafted weapon), he MUST leave it on his Barbarian character or give it to one of his other tournament characters for temporary storage. It CANNOT be muled off onto his tournament stash and then put back on once he has made Destroyer with that Barbarian.

Play Restrictions

All quests MUST be completed before moving onto the next Act
Quests MUST be completed in order
Visiting previous difficulties is NOT allowed unless to socket, imbue or engrave items and change map seeds
Trading is NOT allowed between different players in this tournament, but it IS allowed between your own three characters

You may visit previous difficulties to change map seeds however buying items and gambling items from previous difficulties is still off limits. All quests must be completed in order (or as "in order" as Act II and III allow us to be). Yes, that means Nihlathak must be killed before Baal in ALL difficulties.

Special notes

Returning the Horadric Malus to Charsi, defeating Shenk the Overseer and killing Nihlathak are sufficient for completing those quests in Act I and Act V. It is up to you whether or not to use the imbue, engrave and socket rewards immediately or to save them for a later date
You CANNOT 'Save and Exit' if you are in trouble (or any other variation such as 'Alt-F4' and 'Slam my fist into the reset button'). If you find yourself in any kind of trouble at all fight to the death or fight your way out and Portal to Town but do not avoid dying honourably by saving and exiting or by any other dishonourable means.

Rewards

1 point per completed quest
3 points for finishing Normal Difficulty (making Destroyer)
5 points for finishing Nightmare Difficulty (making Conqueror)
11 points for finishing Hell Difficulty (making Guardian)
1 item slot granted for finishing Normal Difficulty (making Destroyer)
1 item slot granted for finishing Nightmare Difficulty (making Conqueror)

Or with regards to item slots one can forego their item slot rewards for Nightmare and Hell and choose to equip their Mercenary entirely once making Conqueror.

Helpful Numbers

30 points per character that has made Destroyer
62 points per character that has made Conqueror
100 points per character that has made Guardian

Your Contribution

All players must maintain a stash or stash character/s to store items for this tournament. All items that are found with your tournament characters must end up in one of the following places:

1. On your characters (dead or alive - self, inventory and in-game chest)
2. On your mercenary (dead or alive - within the confines of the character rewards section)
3. In/On your Prize Stash/Stash Character (via the accepted means such as Atma etc.)
4. Sold off or left on the ground

For this tournament I will be employing a 'Minimum Item Requirement' for prize stashes. In other words the only items that all participants should worry about putting into/onto their Prize Stashes/Stash Characters are:

Semi-Rare runes and above: Sol, Dol, Hel, Io, Lum, Ko, Fal, Lem, Pul, Um, Mal, Ist, Gul, Vex, Ohm, Lo, Sur, Ber, Jah, Cham and Zod.

Exceptional Unique and all Elite Unique and Set items.

If you don't think you can part with finding a very rare Elite Unique item then either state you wish to play 'Self-found' or do not enter the tournament at all. In previous tournaments we've given away some very nice items due to players' honesty (two that come to mind are the Grandfather and Cranium Basher), so once again I ask; if you cannot part with it, be honest from the very beginning and play as 'Self-found' or do not play at all.

A special note here about dead characters and items. When your tournament character dies you are NEVER to take items off that character for use on your other tournament characters or to transfer into your prize stash. Once a character is dead all items on that character are considered lost. If you cannot fathom losing items in such a manner then perhaps Hardcore is not for you. Please do not join this tournament if you cannot abide by that mandate.

Well, if I was in Act V and wanted to re-run countess in that difficulty for some reason, I guess I could move all characters back to Act I and still be within the rules. Nothing says the characters have to be stuck on their maximum Act.

Eh, whatever.

Chalk Liz up for another 6 points and another level (puts her on 18 points, level 26). Early Meph drops include a Bloodrise, two pieces of Sander's set, and some more interesting rare pikes, polearms, orbs, gloves, throwing axes, amulets, assassin claws, and a magical Quhab of all things (what the hell was an exceptional item doing in normal Act III? Not that I'm complaining).

Total team points should be 30, with Audrey tagging along on 6.

Looking good so far. I got my first 2 characters to tristram and rescued Cain (at lvl 13 and 14 respectively) yesterday.

Tosser found absolutely nothing, Coffee found a unique Cap. I'll do a proper update when my team is getting ready to move to act 2.

UberNec is currently sitting at the Rof Wp ready to tackle the CS and Diablo, UberAss and UberSorc are in Kurast after both disposing of Duriel. Have keep a seperate atma stash with all the S/U's i find in it (that don't qualify as prize worthy) and it has about 31 items in it at the moment. Here's a screenie of UberNec's forge drop, WoW! what do i do with it? Might save it and make a BoTD, shouldn't be too hard to find the other runes. Now to take down Diablo, then get the sin and sorc thru Act 3, uggghh i hate Act 2 and 3.

Wow, I just got my backside whopped. Grats Uber on becoming the tourney trailblazer.

Im going back to my endless Meph runs. With the number of rares I've been getting, surely one of them will have to drop with the Mammoth suffix, right?...
