Yay! I have almost doubled the score since the last update...

I finally cubed a couple of decent Savage Polearms:
* Savage Lochaber Axe that can be used at merc level 23 (because of the STR requirement of 80)
* Savage Halberd of Swiftness, usable at level 26. Great item!
* Savage Partizan (for late Normal (but I think the superior speed of the Halberd will make this Partizan obsolete, especially if I can gamble a Circlet with good elemental damage))


Odysseus was first up. His merc cleared the rest of act 2 for him, using the Savage Lochaber Axe. Odysseus only killed a couple of annoying Unravelers in the seven tombs, using his bow and Holy Shock. They died quickly. I didn´t want to look at the damage display before taking on Duriel. Then I looked at it:

Level 5 Holy Shock backed up with level 9 Resist Lightning made the character screen display a damage of 4-482! Players 8 Duriel was owned in short order. Only a couple of rejuves to keep the merc alive were needed.



Then it was time for Elayna the fledgling Talonsin to make her move. Contrary to what some participant wrote, Cloak of Shadows is not a one-point-wonder for her. It may be if you use it mainly as a "save my *ss" skill, but I think an 8 seconds duration is way too short for regular use. I want to focus on the battle, micro-movement, feed merc potions, reposition shadow, etc. without having to be prepared to recast CoS all of a sudden. If I slip up and let the period without CoS last over, say, 0.5 seconds, a good fighting situation may collapse, an archer boss pack may kill the merc, etc. That is not a problem now, but it will be in Hell. I have seen what a high-level CoS can do, and I like it. Of course, a high-level CoS requires more precise decisions about exactly when/where to cast it, but I think I can handle that after my experience with Diana.

I have CoS (and Burst of Speed) at level 5 now which is OK for Normal.

When people on this forum ask for good builds for untwinked play, I rarely see the Talonsin mentioned. I wonder why. The damage is only based on the base type of boots. Then you can add elemental damage and many cool effects from the weapon (which can be of any kind, although I prefer one-handers, for safety). If you skip the very biggest boot types and are content with about 40% blocking, you can dump a lot of points into Vitality.
A Talonsin has great crowd control (shadow, Mind Blast and Cloak of Shadows) and her gamplay is not that complicated (not any of that hectic hotkey switching mid-battle of most elemental MA Assassins). Diana is one of the strongest characters I have ever had (until FE Madawc killed her, that is...) and she was restricted to level 12 skills and below! I am determined to make Elayna even better.

i felt like doing my sorc and when i got FO everything was a breeze, kills really fast compared to UNDEAD found some good rares lie this +2cold skills +3 cold mastery mana globe thingy and found some uniques and sets along the way, the thing i found out was the curse those siren things( flying girls in act 5) shot out was really a pain to my sorc i was like wtf? why im losing life then i noticed every time i hit them with a spell i get hurt with that red spirally thing on my head.

UNDEAD was as easy as usual but slow compared to HCMFER was so tempted to buy a CE to speed up the killing but then the rules kicked in
the hardest by far is using Hobo is the chaos sanctury, i hate IM bloody annoying nearly died 5 times but managed to get through it fast after i put it on p1

thats about it planning get HCMFER to 55 and the other 2 to around 50 too

Polgara found a nice +3 FO +2 Chilling Armor +2 something cold orb. If I had anything worth socketing in it (since it's a normal item), I would.

The other thing is the blood mana curse you're getting hit with. Get your life above your mana, and then they'll hit you with the harmless -def curse. :)

Ooh, the Blood Mana curse in action! That means that your character has more mana than life. Cool, I thought such characters were extinct in these tournaments... :clap:





On to something completely different:

I will not repeat/run any areas in this tournament. That means that my resources are limited. Gambling is important to me.
Therefore, I feel like my team is being robbed every time a set/unique item gets muled into the prize stash. :scratch:

Would you people (especially Psycho) have anything against if I took some money from one of my retired characters and compensated my three-way-dance team for the money they miss out on when set/unique items gets stashed? I will check what the vendors would pay for the S/U items (about 6000 gold for an Isenhart´s Case, for example) and give them that.

If you don´t allow me to do this, I will keep track of the total value of those items and then go hunting in an area I have already visited and open chests, etc. until I have compensated for my loss. It would be less convenient, but it would work. For example, if I was to find a nice rune during such a "run", I must sell it (since I don´t consider this extra playing part of the game).

I think that when playing in a tournament you should obey the rules of the tournament regardless of any extra restrictions you want to follow for your own characters.

On a related note, is hot-muling of prize items acceptable? If a character should happen to find a whole bunch of uniques and set items in one session, having to give up the stash space to hold them all for transfer may be far more of a "robbery" than just the loss of the gold.

Had one situation in the barracks where I had to pull a quick save and exit because i was surrounded and I was out of juves with no health left. Been quite a while since my last update. I've just been through a move, and have had little time to play. I have made good progress though. I have one Destroyer to add to the list.

Mr_Bone was the first to avenge The_Weathergirl's death. Like Zedar, he simply fired Bone Spears from afar. I was amazed that I was able to keep my rogue merc from dying in this fight. I kept Big D's attention on me, and when he shot off his lightning breath, I ran away from my merc so she wouldn't be hit by it.

After defeating Diablo, it was time to get my Amazon out of Act III and on the path to gaining Lightning Fury. She had a hard time of finishing up Acts III and IV, using mostly Jab and a bit of Decoy, she managed to kill a few monsters of her own. Her mercenary did most of the killing, however. I debated how I wanted to fight Diablo. She was level 28, so no Valkyrie to help out. I finally decided to try to Jab him to death. The plan suceeded. Plague Javelin was used to help out a bit, as was Inner Sight, but in time, Diablo finally fell to her Jabs. If Big D was about to fire his lightning breath, she just ran. Her mercenary died early in the battle, but after 10 or so minutes of fighting, Diablo fell.

I pressed her forward into Act V. Her first horrible battle occured in one of the Hell sublevels as an Extra Strong pack of Frenzytaurs advanced on her. She still didn't have Lightning Fury at her disposal, so she had to separate the minions from the boss and kill each of the baddies one at a time. Those little bridges sure helped too. The Extra Strong Boss was quite a pain. Her merc had died while she was splitting up the pack, so she took him on herself. I used the same strategy as I did for Diablo: Inner Sight, Plague Jav, and lots of Jabs. I had to drink a red every 2 hits he landed, but thankfully I had 4 points in Dodge, so he didn't connect half the time.

When she finally hit level 30, Stick_Tosser began to feel her power growing. She finally had a Valkyrie, the ability to Pierce, and the Fury of Lightning. Things became much easier from this point forward. With every level, Lightning Fury became much more devastating. Around slvl 4 the problem came of trying NOT to use it so much, to avoid trips to town to repair her Throwing Spears. Using just magic ones with 7% mana leech along with a nice +60 to mana, 10% FCR ring, mana stopped becoming a problem. Jab was kept as the main left skill and Lightning Fury as the main right click skill.

The Ancients and Baal's minions were all taken down quite easily with Lightning Fury. I did have to use 1 red pot for my mercenary during the battle with the Ancients. Baal just had too much life. At first I switched between Lightning Fury and Jabbing, but Baal hit moderately hard, drained her mana, and slowed her. When he was at half life, she just spammed Lightning Fury until he died.

Before venturing to the Cow Level, Stick_Tosser decided to cube some Blood Gloves since she had reached Destroyer status. Her team hadn't found any set or unique gloves. A shame, because Mr_Bone really wants some Frostburns, and she could use a number of sets/uniques. Her first crafted gloves came with 2% LL, 9% CB, +20 (I think) to life, and around 11% MF. She would have liked to see some IAS and perhaps even mana leech as well, not to mention + to jav/spear skills....but these were a start. That Crushing Blow could have come in handy with Baal. The Cow Level was quite fun. I just waited for the cows to bunch up in nice big groups, and watch them all fry with one cast of Lightning Fury, then mop up the leftovers with Jab. It was all too easy. The Cow King was killed in two to three hits by my mercenary (using an eth hurty stick with life leech) and dropped Arctic Furs.

That's about if for the update. I don't see any problems in NM for my Amazon. I'm interested to see when the first tough Lightning Immune problem starts showing up. She will eventually be maxing Plague Javelin, and I'm not sure whether I'll eventually want her to max Poison Javelin, or Charged Strike (which doesn't even have 1 point, nor its pre-req). I'll have to decide when she gets to that point.

I won't be updating as much from here on out. After I get Destroyer with my Necromancer, my team will be progressing much slower than they did through Normal. Besides, I've got another tourney Barbarian and a couple of Mats-in-progress to think about. Congrats to all the other Destroyers and sorry to hear of even more deaths...quite a few in the Chaos Sanctuary. That place is just mean in Normal difficulty. Oh, and sorry for the long post. Keep those characters alive!
 
I really should have chosen Ice/Fire instead of Fire/Lit. (which I only chose for teleport, foolishly). Cold Plains was a menace, with FI Bishibosh and a pack of Extra Strong Gargantuans. I survived though and now...

That's the problem I have with Liselle. LF is so pretty and destructive! I'm using some magic throwing spears of replenishes quantity. Woohoo for 1 gold repairs! Now I make a huge profit between trips even when you factor in scroll and mana potion costs. I'm hoping for some increased stack size / replenshing spears, but she'll be fine until she gets there.

Once I get Liselle and Zedar through Act I, I'll probably let Polgara run Mephisto over and over again, hoping for some Titan's... That'll be a pretty, pretty day. Until then, I have plenty of Orts and Amns, so I can cube up some exceptionals. I might try and cube a safety weapon, but with only 2 Sol runes, I don't know if I want to risk it now, or wait for a higher level (or just run the countess and hope for more Sols)...

...Decisions, decisions. Good to see Mr_Bone and Stick_Tosser are still alive and well. Zedar, for me, was the least fun character to play, just because he was a slower killer. He was probably the safest, though, with all of the points in bone wall/prison boosting his armor to a massive 290 point absorption...

I'm not sure if I understand this. You could easily make more money by picking up normal items, such as orbs, necromancer heads and even plain steel armour and selling that.

Seems like I have lost some places when not at home. Have played with my Amazon and my palla today and they have both reached Arcane Sanctuary while my nec still sitting in the shadow drinking beer from Atmas bar. He really should get out in the sun so he could get rid of his white skin and get some sun tan.

Played the Palladin a bunch over the weekend... not as much as i was hoping, but it was nice to get myself my frist Destroyer ever! Deceased began act 3 feeling a bit out of sorts. but i managed to gamble a Composite Bow with massive amounts of elemental damage on it (1-~58 lighning and 4-50 fire)! with the aid of that bow he managed to make it through act 3, 4 and most of act 5. he is quite certainly going to be running into trouble with his attack rating, so now that i've got ~60 points in strength he's doing 3 into dex and 2 into vit at each level. the AR problem was getting kind of bad, but then he found a Visionary Full Helm. this beautiful helm gives 1% to AR per level. this has changed his whole outlook on life. :) with the extra 50% AR and all those points in dex, he's still got about 88% CTH even in act 5. nice. Baal and the Ancients were both done at players 1, but the rest was 8 all the way. Baal's first drop was all yellows and nothing really worth mentioning. after several more runs, however, Baal coughed up a Butcher's Pupil. this is a sweeeeeet weapon. too bad none of my chars can make any use for it. :lol:

after hitting level 50 and attaining maxed Holy Freeze and Holy Shock, Deceased went back to mop up the cow king. i did it at players 1 cause i hate cows. i didn't attack once the whole level. :D at slvl 21 (thanks a +1 to Offensive Auras rare amulet that Dead found) HS does 1-~250 damage by itself. this was enough to kill all the cows on the screen in two pulses of the aura. it was cool. the Cow King dropped Cleglaw's Shield.

I've now started working Dead through Act 5, but i expect that this will take a while. good luck to everyone, and many condolences on the losses.

I am so stupid.
Today I got my sorc from the jail to the Catacombs. Next I was going to kill Andy. With the help of my merc, I cleared out Andy's throne room and was going to try to kill her. My merc kept dying within seconds, so I had to solo her. I got her down to 1/4 health left when i got poisoned, and it brougt me down to one hp. I had a tp opened in the meantime, so i hit her with a glacial spike and ran toward my tp. Suddenly, I heard a scream, and my sorc was dead. I looked up at the top of the screen and it said I was slain by fire. Well, next time I'll remember to watch out for fire while poisoned.

Rainbow facet question. Are they allowed at all? I think it would be too unbalanced to let just the jewel people use rainbow facets. Can no one use them, anyone? Or can you use them in an item in a reward slot? (i.e. if you had headgear as a reward could you put a rainbow facet in a shako and then use that as your helm?)

Quick update. Was in 6th :clap: A big achievement in a field this large. This update would have had me in 3rd, but who's counting?

The Rainbow Facet question has been answered. The answer is that no reward slot includes the use of a Rainbow Facet, including the jewelry slot. All rainbow facets are to be muled.
This shouldn't be a problem, as the odds of finding a Rainbow Facet aren't all that great, and no more than 1 or 2 should pop up in the entire tournament.

As for my update...I'll update when I have something to update. My characters are doing nothing more than levelling, cleaning up Act II, tomb-raiding, countess-running and Meph running. A few decent items, such as the Raven Frost my Assy was waiting for and various exceptional/mid level uniques for the mule, and the occasional decent rare. No deaths, character levels are 65, 53 and 51.
As I posted before...no one's going anywhere until everyone is level 70.
