I should have 8 points not 6. didn't count marsh wp or countess.

I added atigdng and Jicama. Couldn't get the chart to look right though.

I don't think I'll be using
Code:
tags because I can't do anything without totally messing them up. So thanks in advance to whomever ends up adding my points to the table.

I'm glad you like it Slothman. The only trick is...that took me as long to write as it took me to play that, so I'll keep doing it as long as it's worth the effort. The good news is that from here on out, I don't have to do as much "contextualizing" from Samus' perspective (having her explain the things we as DII players already recognize) which should cut some of it out.

Bip is on his way - and going at P8 for as long as practical. He's cleared the Dark Woods and rests at lvl14. So far he's been a meleemancer using socketed scepters. He's only broken a half-dozen items so far. It's really a challenge to not click the NPCs - habits die hard!

As I suspected, the pacing item will be ID scrolls. I can't find enough to ID all of the jewelry and charms. Keeping gear black isn't too hard, just plug a skull or diamond in first and viola. That rule will result in very low MF% too. So far I've put single points into pre-reqs & curses - I better review the Bonemancer guides to see how this guy should be built. :D

Three WPs gained (not counting town), and one useless scroll collected (Inifuss). I await a decision on JicamaEaters question on quest completion for "silent characters", but for now I'll say two (can't rescue Cain). Total points = 5.

I too cannot master the "code" thing. I think it is browser/OS specific. I can read and understand the instructions, but cannot get it to work. :bonk:

I'm about to start playing Storm. Will be going at /players5.

I think it should be made clear whether or not the WPs in town should be counted as points or not, before there's too much confusion...that and the "silent character" quest thing for those two crazies doing that. Also, will certain quests count as completed if I avoid talking to an NPC who'll try to give me a free mercenary? (i.e. ignoring Kaysha after killing Blood Raven) I don't enjoy trying to kill off mercenaries in HC...don't need too much more risk than necessary. Besides, it'd be quite out of character.

Another question...do the NPCs who sell out mercenaries in Acts II-V still give out free mercenaries after certain quests are completed. I remember Acts II and III did in classic, and I don't remember if Qual-Kehk gave you a free barb or not (in addition to runes) after finishing the barb-rescuing quest. It's been too long since I've played without mercenaries.

Now i just gotta re-read my restrictions before heading out....

Edit: One problem I see with the table is that another column will need to be added for "Points after Multiplier"--once we get our multipliers, that is.

Interesting idea about Code.

You actually can rescue Cain. Akara does not need to translate the scroll for you to be able to use it (unless I hit some weird bug or something that one time). So the following tactic works as far as I know:
You hold the scroll under any circumstance and click the stones in any order until they are all lit
And if you aren't holding the scroll, even if you put it down in the ring and your character could read it from anywhere in the circle, and you memorized the order, the game will not let you complete the portal
After entering the portal you can clear Tristram then open Cain's cage. But you still can't talk to him  .

Unless you make it to Act V Hell you will not be substantially dependent upon curses. Because of the way Gloams and Slingers work at that point in the game you need Crowd Control that isn't Bone Prisons for them. Other than that it's easy sailing unless you happen to meet a Magic Immune monster earlier in Bip's travels (and it's possible, Mana Burn zombies in Lost City are even in Normal). Because there are only a few Magic Immune monsters you can nearly always count on CE to handle them unless you don't have much radius on it. If I'd been even a tiny bit smarter in building my Bonemancer I could have easily made it Hardcore (wait, barring the FECELE swarm I met in the Maggot Lair), and had a much easier time killing everything. High spear/spirit damage is good, but having CE for the group and MI killer makes it all even better.

Not talking to townsfolk is tough for me too. It's only a little easier because Samus hasn't been in town since she left 30 seconds after I created her. I'm sure there's some 'real' use for the Tome of Town Portal (barring Wirt's Leg) but right now it's a repository for Samus' thoughts and experiences. The most exciting part was when she was running around, at level 3, for fifteen minutes popping chests in Cold Plains and Stony Field looking for a bow to use. I had drained 117 javelins already by that point in the game.

Good luck, have fun and don't die!

I think I made a big mistake when making my character. She is rune dependent. All those lovely mana properties I'll need to survive will be coming from runes. I'll need lots of them because I can't count on sets or uniques to give them to me. I will also need socketed equip. I can see myself wearing a chainmal socketed with ith runes when I take on diablo. I am in for hard times.

There are also some things I need clarified. Does %dmg taken goes to mana apply to elemental damage? Is there a cap to %damage taken? How much extra mana regen do I need to regen 1 mana per second? How exactly does weapon block work when I'm running/attacking/standing still?

Any of these answers would be a big help to me.

EDIt: I have no problem adding others points to the chart. I'll do so when I do my own.

This all depends on how much your maximum mana is. The more mana you have, the more mana you regenerate each second. I'll see if I can dig up the formula for this....

Without any other +mana regen, your mana orb will go to full after 120 seconds. So if you have 120 mana that's 1 mana per second. If, with warmth, you have +300% Mana Regen then you'd only need 30 mana to get 1 mana per second regen.

I made it to the catherdral but I decided to stop. I don't want to play her too much too early. During my countess runs she dropped me a tal. I might make stealth armor but I want to wait until act2. I'm now up to 12 points.

I added you AE. Is there some trick to keeping the words lined up. I was fiddling with it for 5 mins.

Vildecor said:
Actually, now AE is listed twice. Once with points, and once with a '?'

Thanks for pointing that out. I must be getting tired. It is a good thing I stopped playing. The mana regen info was helpful.

I am probably finished for the day, Isildur completed act 1 along with all its quests. I didn't find any bloodfist yet, but haven't had the time to run andy.

Isildur: lvl 18
Quests completed: 6
WP gathered: 9
points total 15

skill points to any interested:
Bash1...Leap1...Leap Attack1...Stun1...Concentrate 1 (Combat skills)
Howl1...Taunt1...Shout1...Battle Cry1 (War Cries)
Sword Mastery8...Increased Stamina1 (Combat Masteries)

Ahh...what comedy. Allow me to tell you about the first death in this tournament. Storm, a level 8 Sorceress, just died trying to kill Blood Raven using only lvl 1 Charged Bolts on /players5. Therein lay the fundamental flaw I'd missed in my themed build. I hadn't allowed myself a strong enough attack to use in the early game. I could only use lvl 1 charged bolts or punch (since I disallowed weapons) until I got lightning at lvl 12.

This normally wasn't so much dangerous as it was time consuming and mana potion consuming. It probably didn't help that I'd only put 5 points in vitality. I'd put points in energy for more mana (so i'd spend less of a fortune on pots) and in strength to wear studded leather (needed as much defense as possible). Had Blood Raven down to 1/3 life when she successfully critical hit me 3 times in a row. drank a rejuv after the first time, drank a red after the second hit, third killed me.

I will keep competing, though I'll probably try to think of a different themed build.

So,
Name: Vildecor
Character: Sorceress, RIP
Theme: X-men
Points before multiplier: 2
Points after multiplier: 2 x ?

Edit:
I noticed no one's playing a Druid, so I decided on a theme build for a Fire Druid. Sticking with the X-men, I'll be playing as Pyro. He'll only use the Druid's fire elemental skills, with no points spent elsewhere (not even Oak Sage, sigh). Fortunately, he'll be accompanied by his buddy Iceman, in the form of an Act III Cold Iron Wolf (more realistic than a Holy Freeze Desert Wolf).

I'll keep the same basic gear restrictions as I had for Storm (leather armors, any belt, rings, and amulet, no shield), with the exception that Pyro will get a weapon...though not much of one. Pyro can only manipulate fire, he cannot create it. Therefore, he cannot use any of his fire skills unless he is equipped with a torch, which I'll signify with any necromancer wand dealing fire damage (one socketed with a ruby will work just fine). He can smack foes with the torch if he feels like it, but he cannot equip any other kind of weapon, and cannot use any mercenary except an Act III cold merc.

Ouch, that's tough. I've recently had a sorc who had to punch her way to level 11 (to be able to gamble a scythe) and I know how much work it is. I don't know that I could have done it without a merc. Good luck with Pyro!

About the code thing. The easiest way that I have found it to use a text editor set to a fixed width font (like courier) to line it up, and then copy-paste it into the reply box with the code tags. (This was also recommended in the Rare Pleasure tourney, so I know I'm not the only one that does it this way.) For the tourneys that I am hosting I just keep a text file and update it whenever people post.

However, are we sure that we want each player updating the table every time they update their character? This starts to make the thread difficult to read, and can get chaotic as there will always be some people who have trouble using the code tags. I think it is easier to have one person keeping track and posting updates periodically. It's Horobi's tourney, so I'll go along with whatever he wants, but I just wanted to get my opinion out there.

No character update for me. I probably won't be able to play any D2 until next weekend. Good luck everyone!

First, sorry to hear about your death Vildecor, I hope you've got better luck next time.

As for the the Town WP's, yes, town WP's do count for your score.

To everyone who doesn't talk to the townsfolk, when you return to the village after 'completing' the quest, you may get points for the quest. Otherwise it would be nearly impossible for you to win.

Oh, and there's no need for everyone to keep posting the code part, I think I'll post it fully updated once every week or so. I hope this will stop people fighting longer with their post then they do with demons and undead :p .

I hope I answered most questions concerning the Tourney, if not, ask them.

Last but not least, good luck everybody, you're going to need it. I'm starting my new amazon now :p .

And don't forget, the most important thing is to HAVE FUN!

Ive got the whole day to play, so as long as i dont die, i'm hoping to be near the top of the leaderboard. I think i now understand kicking and charging (the guides make it sound really complicated, but once i started playing, i found that it was rather easy to build up the charges and kick the hell out something.
As the updating the table, i think if someone can update there scroe as they post it that wiould help alot, since its always good to know exactly where everyone is. If someone has trouble, just post the relevent info and ask someone to update it for them.

Well, that was fun.
Died at level 15 to a boss carver shaman (I don't know where that amp damage came from, he was extra strong, not cursed, I swear!).

Shame, never even got to put confuse to the test.

Waypoints:
Rogue camp
Cold Plains
Stony Field

Quests:
Den of evil
Sisters' burial grounds

Total score: 5.
Total finds: 0.

Next up: A tankazon (in a more literal sense of the word than usual).

Always wear the heaviest class of armor available.

Always walk. This includes stopping waypoint travel. I'll use town portals to avoid going insane.

Always use a crossbow (cannon!)

The usual fun rules: no merc, no minions.

Name: Tank.

Skills:
Immolation arrow (cannon!)
Strafe (gun turret?)
Freezing arrow (poorly justified stretch)
and probably a bit of pierce.
Inner sight too (targeting?)
I'll use prereq skills before I get these to preserve sanity.

Assuming I find something this time, I'll pass it along to the prize pool as before. Anticipating Duriel will be a huge problem.

Well, Shiba Kukaku is level 15 now. She found a nice Pelta Luna off Corpsefire and a nice Katar with Amplify Damage proc. Currently running countess to see if I can dig up runes for Stealth and Steel. Put 5 levels into Fire Bomb, fun stuff.

Things are going slightly better for me this time. I've been able to go p8 all the way so far, and have turned up a Pelta Lunata, and a Death's Guard. The Pelta has been stashed for a prize, as will the Death's Guard once I'm finished with it. I've decided that a tank should also have the chunkiest metal helmets as well as chunky metal armor. Walking is driving me nuts, I think I'll walk (run is hardly an appropriate term here :() countess and try for a stealth armor, though I know I'll have to chuck it pretty soon after, since I'll find something heavier.

I'm done for the night.

Quests:
Den of evil
Sisters' burial grounds

Waypoints:
Rogue encampment
Cold plains
Stony field

loss of Gorath

well, as the title says:

Gorath died in a heroic attempt of killing the evil countess... :(

(im starting up fast again... same ideas, but a BIG change of points distribution...)
