The Untwinked Level 99 Progress Thread, Revenge of the 99ers

Back from another road warrior trip. Was able to squeeze in enough LK and AT runs to hit 91 and finally get my Teleport back. I was using teleport on switch, but feels good to get the skill back. This is my highest level HC character ever, so pretty happy about that. I am one Lo rune away from a nice Fortitude on an awesome base for my merc. Still long ways from Enigma. I did find a Tals Armor which has brought me many cool finds since.
Was stoked about this one. Never found it before.
This was also cool as a first for me. Not sure I will ever use it, but still cool.

Good questions both. I have never had the opportunity in HC to farm high runes before. So since I have a nice sorc setup and I plan to do a twinked Paladin next, I figured I would take the opportunity to get enigma runes. For this project I am definitely needing fortitude on my merc. Not sure if I need any other runewords as I am killing at a decent speed now. The phase blase was Lightsabre which made my inner Star Wars geek happy.

Wow @PhineasB that is some solid progress. You were quite a few levels behind me with that character and have left me in the dust. I thought my progress to 97 wasn’t too bad, but you are a machine.
I have a decent CS map that has a shrine next to the pentagram, which spawns XP about a third of the time. I just save it for Diablo since the OK’s cancel any shrine out, and there are always tons of them around. The density of monsters is almost overwhelming sometimes, but it makes the runs fun.

No progress at all for me, while speaking about runes...i've found exactly 0 HRs since last report...Not sure how many runs i did because i do not count them, however, my LK map has stable Totemic mask rack (dropping in 90% of runs) and i've got 5 Jalals already, so certainly finished more then a few...
At least, i've progressed little bit further through the game, so i've mixed endless LK runs with some Eldrich runs, which resulted into few good finds and current lvl 85

My multishot bowazon is currently running CS on p5 at a tolerable pace. Any higher i start lacking the damage and run out of arrows more often than id like. For now, i am content on p5 but i know i will have to up the p setting if i go any higher.
In terms of gear upgrades, i am still missing WF and cats eye. Im also looking into pride + gmb faith setup; but missing most of the runes. Charm wise, im running sharp/fines and some rolling some more low lvl gc for better sharps; but do have plenty of other options available like mf and life and resists.

Personally, I would just keep going with XP as a priority, and drops will come. You could load up on MF like crazy and never see a WF and have nothing but frustration to show for it. Higher /p setting and kill speed will also bolster your shot at runes, so the RW aspect is more achievable.
After being inspired by the posts here, I decided to give this a shot. Been playing a fishymancer since December aiming for 98 (stretch goal 99). Using a plain jane install of D2:LOD 1.14d without modifications. Currently 92 with alright gear; Shako and Homunculus are his best drops to date. He is in hardcore.
I am running p1 Baal (albeit aborting if too many Souls/conviction) and p7 Pits, mixing in and exploring other areas as I fancy. Only 1 near death so far thanks to Nilathak's CE. Not going to attempt MFing him after that experience.
Been a fun ride so far. I've played bnet on & off since 1.09 and playing SP has been vast a departure from "usual" routine of the rushing, botting gear and pub pking. I confess that I've never actually played the game through (only rushed) or played legit (always maphacked) prior to this attempt. I used to view PvM as a sole means to acquire PvP gear... boy was I ignorant.

I am running p1 Baal (albeit aborting if too many Souls/conviction) and p7 Pits, mixing in and exploring other areas as I fancy. Only 1 near death so far thanks to Nilathak's CE. Not going to attempt MFing him after that experience.
Been a fun ride so far. I've played bnet on & off since 1.09 and playing SP has been vast a departure from "usual" routine of the rushing, botting gear and pub pking. I confess that I've never actually played the game through (only rushed) or played legit (always maphacked) prior to this attempt. I used to view PvM as a sole means to acquire PvP gear... boy was I ignorant.

As evidenced above, did a bunch of NM Baal runs yesterday, coupled with Travincal and Eldritch to break from monotony (I think I mentioned before, but the WSK2-3 map is really good); along N and NM I collected a full Iratha's - which was a goal from the start - and made a Smoke, so I'm (technically) good as far as resists go trading difficulties. Once that happens, MF runs take a full stop.
The only ducks I'd like to get in a row before moving on would be a Guillaume's for Olena (so that, coupled with her Duress, she'd proc CB and OW fairly often) and both the Trang'Oul shield - since it's easier to find in NM - and, of course, Homunculus. I've been playing with the idea of a crafted safety amulet as well (assuming I get a decent roll with that +10% block, that's a little more Dexterity I can transfer to Vitality down the road).
Assuming those drop, the idea is that Homunculus gets the other quest socket I've been saving. "Eld" would also shave a few extra Dex points (if I did the math right, 72% natural chance to block requires ~220 Dex; 72% + Eld + Safety Amulet = 89% natural chance, so max block Dex goes to ~180). On the other hand, an extra "Um" that drops along the way... thoughts?

@Gynli It seems like that when it comes to Amazons, there are never two users who can agree on gear or skills, so I wanna share my experience as well 
Mine had WF with Faith merc. It worked quite well I think, but I never got around to trying Might/Reapers merc, which I think could have worked even better. I used Atma's which just obliterated everything in sight, when it triggered, which to my taste was not near enough. I experienced she killed a lot faster with Highlords Vs Atma, so I swapped between them when I encountered PI.
My guess would be, that self wielding Faith and Might + Decrept from Merc, would out damage Faith/WF and the occasional Amp trigger. Or at least give a better killing flow, so to speak. When I wielded Faith, the damage was about the same as WF, only with more AR and speed plus the extra goodies.
I could give this a try, see if I can supply some numbers for you, since it's all guesswork from my side. And this way, you are not dependent on a WF to drop, which could be a quite depressing wait.
Maybe test Highlords Vs Cat's Vs Atma too? Tell me if you are interested in some testing from my side, and what gear, maybe what you are aiming for as end gear, if I have it
You do CS, so I also guess you clear RoF on the way up? Do you also kill Diablo?
Regarding if you should hunt for MF, or just keep churning monsters. IMO is this is a matter of taste. I simply could not do area running with my Barb, knowing that he could do it faster with better gear. And some gear upgrade is not that hard to come by, as long as we aren't talking WF, ofc. What gear upgrade are you thinking, besides the amulet?

Had some serious luck since last report...more then week without HRs and then two in 100 LK runs and one randomly from Eldritch...And at the same time those i really needed, extremely happy man i'm now

With thanks to @Pb_pal for the advice, Phaedrus went back to NM to hire Waheed the might merc, and spent >30 minutes earlier today rolling for a CS map. The current one seems pretty good – it has three shrines with the straight layout for both Vizier and Infector’s arms. Trav has two more shrines within 1-2 teleports of the WP. It also has decent boss density in CS, with a couple stable packs near the pentagram and 1-2 that regularly spawn at Infector’s seal.
I tested out different merc helmet options (Guillame’s & Andy’s) while rolling maps, but quickly went back to Delerium. It makes things more manageable for me so we are going to stick with it. The next step is to do a couple half hour sets of Gripp runs versus p8/p7. The more I look at the numbers at level 97, the more I think p8/p7 could be faster with shrines if I can get better at telestomping de Seis.

Pestilence has also been plugging away in LK. Since his last update, he had done 2 hours when Phaedrus hit 97, and then another 1.5 hours, with nothing higher than a Lem and a Ko. Usually such stretches are helped by other good finds (charms, etc.) but he found nothing useful aside from those two runes. Well, technically he got a Highlord’s, but he already had one, so that ended up being frustrating more than anything else. Then 4 of 5 successive runs included extra fast might enchanted bosses right outside the first hut (2 with cursed proc happening either from that pack or another), leading to aborted runs without popping a single chest.
Rerolling the LK map was my coping strategy for the frustration And after 15 minutes he had a better 2-fire map (much less running) with 6 stable poppables right on his path. The fifth run yielded a Pul, and I was happy until I realized that was only one “level” better than the Lem! 
But then the next 5 runs yielded these charms:
That’s what I’m talking about! The next day Sur #3 dropped, although it took a fair bit of work to get it due to the clutter and two boss packs right there. He resurrected the merc, cast a golem, and managed to draw them away without waking up other boss packs for successful retrieval. After that experience, I realized that CtA would make the runs smoother and I had the runes to make it, which it did after I did (meh roll – only +2 BO, although as you will see, I still sometimes forget to cast it).
Over another couple hours, he got Ist #2, a Lo from a corpse, and Pul #5. He also got a Ruby (11) SC of Balance, a Graverobber skiller of Sustenance, and a 40 vita shapeshifting skiller. He also picked up Rising Sun, which makes for 4 unique amulets total (with the 2 Highlords and a Mahim-Oak Curio). The SC is great for a character that will be using Spirit, which he will once he gets Enigma and I find the Monarch base, because the FHR gets the 56 breakpoint with resists in the one element that Spirit doesn’t cover. But the highlight of that stretch was this, making #3:

I forgot i found a reapers just a bit ago; so its reaers on merc, not obedience. The decrep speeds up the kill process quite a bit, especially against PIs or beefy mobs like urdars.
I do clear RoF on the way, but have been rolling a better map for a straighter cut to CS. Hopefully i only get to run past most mobs with a good roll.
Ive been looking at all the comparisons between wf and faith setups; and came to a conclusion that the final gears that i should go for the pride/faith setup with lower dex. WF/faith will be a better setup until i respec to lower dex though.
My bowazon uses multi and no strafe so atma wont proc enough; i also prefer the frw on cats over the marginal deadly strike on the highlords. But its really the 20ias for the extra frame that matters. Id take either one over any other ammys.
Edit: id be interested in a run time comparison for wf/faith vs faith/pride setup on 200-300 dex range with max charms without using strafe. Idk if you have two free respecs available for your test though... =P i have a bunch of andy essences that i can give you if you wish
I forgot i found a reapers just a bit ago; so its reaers on merc, not obedience. The decrep speeds up the kill process quite a bit, especially against PIs or beefy mobs like urdars.
I do clear RoF on the way, but have been rolling a better map for a straighter cut to CS. Hopefully i only get to run past most mobs with a good roll.
