The PvP Thread

@Pyrohemia you COULD just make a CtA. :D

Let's see if there's some interest but yeah, timing is an issue anyway now in spring/summer time with more RL stuff and less gaming time. For example until 3 weekends from now I could only play Sundays evenings, others may have plans on Sundays, so yeah... :) We'd have to find a couple of dates that work for everyone.

@ffs How was Tool?

Fridays are pretty much out for me at the moment, Saturday & Sunday are possible but there is much more going on over the summer.

Re Tournament:
Complete ban on 1.07 items is a bit difficult for me, I'm unlikely to re-sort my charms out. Some select items are possible, but like Pyro I don't have a +6 CtA in 1.14d. Well I do, but it is a GMB.

Hosts are also problematic. Home advantage is significant.

I have spare +6 BO CtAs in 1.14, if that ends up being a rule I can happily share them. :)

@ffs How was Tool?
Fantastic! Actually that particular song started with the guitar being slightly off hehe ... overall incredible performance, but what else to expect from living Gods. :)

Nice games indeed! Trapper is lots of fun with improved setup, probably my most optimized character by now. Ghost was fun too, although my whirls were terrible. :)

Perhaps you guys can try to remember to bring some PR stack and/or PLR gear next time. I overhauld my Poison Necro but he was quickly veto'ed. :D I just wonder how good/bad he is if other players have an answer for poison damage.

Thanks for hosting @frozzzen!

Good games yesterday, joined with charge paladin and was surprised to get some kills especially with 2h weapon. Melee is lots of fun and we need more games like this.

Thanks all for games and @frozzzen for hosting.

Some gameplay with Trapper doing 1v1s against frozzzen's bowazon and Ghost FFAs with Delsy, Pyro and Miron.

Still figuring out Ghost matchups and whirling properly. Yesterday I tried to WW with pressing Alt which avoids WW locks, but all those items on the ground make it hard to see and my WWs were mostly terrible. Could just be lack of practice but so far doesn't seem worth it tbh. Also evidently I'm still not sure whether I should do long whirls or try to be tight when going up against things like Fury Druids or Wolfbarbs. :)

Btw @maxicek @Gripphon where are you guys at? :P

Nah I'll just go back to using right click without "show items" and try not to lock on to people with WW. :D The only reason I tried with Alt was to avoid the occasional WW lock "the lazy way", but I guess I'll just try and get better at not getting into WW locks. ;) Not a fan of having any attack on LMB personally, unless it's necessary such has with Hammerdins. Seems even more prone to misclicks, and if an attack can be used on RMB it's much easier to nail those namelock/attack sequences that way IMO.

While I was shopping Anya for Trapper claws over the last couple of months, I found a bunch of interesting other claws.

Btw if anyone is looking to try some PvP Trapper but lacking claws, I have a whole bunch of +4 LS claws I no longer need that I'd be happy to give away! Just let me know.

Anyway, among the shopped claws was this one, which yesterday I took to Larzuk and got 2os:

Fow now it sits in the Ghost's stash for potential use against high defense characters.

But it also made me think about trying a WW/trap hybrid, although probably the lack of skills on this claw makes it not ideal for that. Use case would be to just trigger OW asap pretty much. Better choice for me is probably Fury in +3 LS base with +3 LS Chaos... @maxicek or others who play hybrid sins, what kind of claws are you guys using on those? I'd assume the SPF trade pool is not exactly flooded with Fools claws that have eth/repair, IAS, a bunch of + skills, 2os etc.

Hybrids are suckers for +skills, could really use Torch/Anni to be good.

But as for what I'm after I'd say that you should go for as much as possible saved skill points. Even on 99 you don't have enough skills to max out LS and its synergies and have decent enough shadow skills coverage. Getting +3 LS and then MB, SM, Fade, Venom, WB, whatever you can use to save skills would probably be best. It also depends on where you want to put remaining skill points - MB, Venom or CM. Don't think I ever did math on optimal Hybrid setup because even on battle.net build is viable only on NL with perfect items.

@ffs I have +3 LS Fury and +2 LS 2os Fools. Generally I prefer the Fools I think.

I have lost interest a bit at the moment, in both PvP and D2 generally. I’m away this weekend so won’t join, maybe the weekend after.

Same as Max, I just waited for him to say so he can be to blame!

Regarding building strong hybrid... I know it's a long shot of a kind, but it might work. Name her Joumu. I mean, it could work, right?! Similar name, similar power!

+ trap skills on claws and then major question is how trap-oriented you want her to be. Too much and she is basically a trapper except she has weak WW. I made some compromise, 5k LS damage and solid WW attack rating at least. Stronger option is to go more trap oriented and accept to have weaker WW for random usage. It might kind of defeat the purpose of building one though.

Yeah in the SPF environment with limited items (even for those who trade) it's probably not a top tier build. But Trappers are fundamentally strong so I'm thinking it can't be complete garbage either, even without ridiculous bnet gear.

What I have in mind would end up somewhere around 5-6k LS damage and using WW just for quickly applying OW and Venom pretty much, sort of neglecting physical WW damage. Compared to my Trapper that's 40-50% lower LS damage, and I don't expect OW/Venom to make up for that. But it's "something" at least and sounds like fun... Gotta hit LK to rack some claws I guess! Been meaning to get + Fade bases for my Ghost claws anyway.

Games this weekend? Looks like I could play tomorrow and Sunday in any case. Saturday maybe.
