Also, question. Already discussed some of this with froz, but maybe you or @maxicek or any other Trapper pros have some more insights:

So I finally have a nice pair of Trapper claws. Now the question is what to socket, also noting that my standard Trapper setup is built around a 2/20 circlet with an IAS/@ jewel. One socketing for sure will be the 15/15 jewel, but as for the other one I'm hesitating. My second best available IAS/@ jewel is 15/9, so that would give me 30 IAS, 24 all resist on those claws.

I'm leaning towards doing that, although I'm mostly thinking about my current candiate claws/combinations, namely:
  • GT/GT: The IAS calc is a bit funny but I gather I need 42 IAS to hit 9fpa traps. So one other source is enough, such as my current circlet socketeing, or alternatively another IAS jewel in the second claw.
  • SQ/GT (WSM bugging): I have two potentially usable Scissors Quhab with +4 LS each. Now when WSM bugging with those and the GTs on boot side, I understand I need 19 IAS to hit 9fpa traps. That would be reached with 30 IAS GTs in off hand, so I'd have full flexibility on sockets in headpiece and other claw.
There's of course options such as FHR or -req with resist and whatnot, I'd use those on glove side claw if I do go with the 30 IAs socketing. For the GTs specifically if I don't need the 30 IAS, there's also the option to include DEX for auto-WSM bugging with SQs... although I don't mind doing it manually really.

Any thoughts or things I'm not aware of here? To me the 30 IAS, 24@ option seems sound, but don't want to waste such jewels only to run into some problems in some scenario I'm missing. :p

Timing does work for me. I'll set the game up around there. I'll get 1.14 trapper so you can practice GvT. Trap mirror is really bad so let's skip on that.

Pretty sure IAS from secondary claw doesn't contribute to trap laying speed. Only primary claw does, and the rest of the gear, but offhand claw IAS shouldn't (except claw type ofc). I'm not sure if you are missing something. In general I think SQ/GT is better overall because it allows you to use something else in helmet as socketing options (Cham and Ber are usually more useful than going 45 IAS GT/GT). Only reason I went GT/GT is because I managed to cram 45 IAS on primary claw, but if I couldn't, I'd 100% be going SQ/GT.

If you are unsure on full committing your jewels, you could try Shael + allress jewel without affix on GT (SQ/GT needs 19 IAS iirc and Shael would cover it) as nice temp and req + something on SQ. You'd be losing ~10 allress for the time being, but could still rethink jewels options for long term.
 
Sounds good for tonight, I should l2p Ghost anyway. I don't think I killed Delsy's trapper even once last time we played, so definitely could use some practice in that matchup in particular. :D

Re claws: Right, that's where I thought the IAS calc was behaving weirdly but indeed, secondary claw IAS doesn't matter. Which leads me to think it's a pretty clear choice to socket the 30 IAS, considering it frees headpiece socket for SQ/GT setups and it's downright required for GT/GT setups. Agreed re SQ/GT being generally preferrable and I'm aiming for that combo, hoping I'll get 2os on one of those +4 LS SQs with my next socket quest.
 
I'll try necro with a more aggressive playing style. 152 FHR setup and solid movement speed.

Fun games yesterday. Except against delsy‘s max block trapper, that is no fun with Ghost. :)

Slowly getting the hang of the gameplay, although my execution still leaves much to be desired. But perhaps even more importantly getting a better idea how to play against Ghost or other WW chars. In particular didn’t realise how much those puddles and rocks can screw up whirling patterns. Definitely will try to abuse things like that against WW chars in the future. :p It certainly changes how those close up encounters play out.

I like how Delsy made his trapper with focus on burst of speed and block. Her movement is certainly a powerful asset, outrunning whirls, quick to position and desynch a lot. Regular trapper can't properly use that tactics since she moves rather slowly in comparison unless made with 1.07 Valk and fast boots. To think of it, it makes her a bit weaker against sorcs, she will likely lose to careful necro, but any melee character is usually doomed and hammer I believe is similarly hard this way and with claws. Bowazon should be twice as easy with max block too. Other trappers should have advantage and that's pretty much it. It is hardly any proper downsides to block variant of trapper overall, a bit less life maybe.

It requires a lot of concentration to hit her with whirlwind. If you miss, you must wsg out or hope to whirl to her but that doesn't work. Ghost should have very hard time cracking that strategy, much easier against c/c trapper who can't really run out of whirling so easily, reposition and mindblast you to oblivion.
 
All of his characters are well built (and played) tbh, even if I have a clear matchup advantage with characters I'm comfortable playing by now, it’s always a ton of work. ;)

I suppose not having claw block is a disadvantage vs all casters in comparison to regular Trapper. I guess similar to Druid, it's a basic decision as to whether you want to significantly improve matchups against physical damage characters on the one hand, or have a stronger setup against casters on the other hand. Difference being that Druid can relatively easily gear for 2 different setups with the same character and having an alternative setup stashed, in the end "only" losing some ~150 dex and corresponding life amount. For Trapper on the other hand it's pretty much an entirely different build, i.e. not really possible on the same character. That being said, I do want to try W/S Trapper as well at some point. But for now I'm still shopping claws in order to finish my C/C Trapper. :)
