The Noodle Compound V. 2.0

Re: The Noodle Compound

I was going to tell a joke, but I'll spare you the pain.

Maybe the manager meant everyone and not specifically you.

Funnily he did mean specifically me as he singled me out. And then me and my colleagues were blamed for being nasty, which by their description meant we got a job done instead of playing solitaire on a pc all day.

I could do with a good joke. I've ran out of lame ones.

Re: The Noodle Compound

That is odd, I figured you were nice!

Alas, I was bluffing on the joke.

And then people wonder why I always think negative about myself - it's because to spare others saying it about me.

You were bluffing with a joke?! How does that work?

Re: The Noodle Compound

I don't really have one, I was thinking you weren't going to ask me to say it as you didn't want to laugh :p

Re: The Noodle Compound

Afternoon, Compounders. I feel like I've just experienced one of those "lost weekends" - except mine lasted more like a whole week. No idea where the time went. How's everybody?

Re: The Noodle Compound

I know how you feel, not so much this weekend or week for me, but it's happened before.

I'm doing well, looking forward to a little vacation I'm planning on taking soon. Should be a good time to rejuvenate and think about some stuff.

I have them every year about this time - it's part of the winter depression crap I go through. We finally got the snow and the bitter cold so I'm mostly stuck indoors doing whatever I can to keep from going stir-crazy. Usually this involves burying myself in books, video games or OCD housecleaning to the point of losing track of time. Days go by. I notice the lost time and freak out a bit - then go back to aforementioned books, games and scrubbing while quietly praying to the FSM for an early spring.

I wouldn't know how to plan a "vacation." Last time I tried that I didn't come home for two-and-a-half years! Whatcha scheming? Got a destination in mind?

Re: The Noodle Compound

Winter can do that to you, fortunately this winter is very mild and hasn't been bad enough to make you feel trapped.

Not really going anywhere, just taking some time off. Should be just what I need though. I haven't taken a real vacation in ages. How did you end up gone for so long?

Re: The Noodle Compound

Gotcha. For some reason I always associate "vacation" with taking a trip. :hammerhead:

I haven't taken a real vacation in ages. How did you end up gone for so long?

Very condensed version:

I was going to be an English teacher once upon a time. The Columbine massacre happened right around the time I was wrapping up my degree. Lost my stomach for everything I'd worked so hard for. I decided to travel for awhile and try to sort my head out. I didn't mean to fly the coup for as long as I did, but for some reason it was a long time before I finally wanted to go 'home'.

I'll stop here since I'd rather not spread my melancholy/winter blues. I actually just meant to lurk and amuse myself with the bad jokes, teasing and weird topics. Speaking of which, this thread is severely lacking in all three atm! I will have to ask Blob or JM to drop by and streak the thread if this keeps up.

Re: The Noodle Compound

Well, I did kinda let on that I was going somewhere. Maybe I'll just go to Carolina in my mind.

Did you used to live in CO? Not that columbine wasn't a national thing, but just curious.

I've been trying to think of a joke all day but can't come up with any. Don't think I've ever seen JM around these parts, blob on occasion though.

Re: The Noodle Compound

Too much freaking perspective! Found another story - apparently he's in a part of Somalia that is trying to break off and form its own country. The nominal president of the breakaway area is threatening military action, and the pirates are threatening to take him to a ship they've captured offshore.

If he makes it back, I see a possible movie script. Bastich better make it back.

Re: The Noodle Compound

oh wow, that's a lot worse than I imagined it was.

I hope he makes it back soon, and gets a good movie deal out of it

Re: The Noodle Compound

Can he get compensation from the company he was working for?

Re: The Noodle Compound

Probably not, extenuating circumstances like that usually are exempt from anyone being responsible.

Re: The Noodle Compound

It depends, they were knowingly sending him into Somalia were there is a very high chance of getting kidnapped. He may have signed a waiver though ...

Re: The Noodle Compound

Yes, that is possible.

It's funny as our insurance policies specifically exclude stuff like acts of terrorism and acts of God.

Re: The Noodle Compound

Also....why did my manager ask me to be nice to him? It sounded like he assumed I was not nice. Which isn't very kind to think of me now.

This morning, whilst performing the seemingly dangerous task of getting dressed, I injured my back. I will laugh about this much more once it's not so damn sore again, because it is really painful atm and I don't dare to take painkillers with the other meds, also laughing hurts right now.

you should have said to the manager, ''you first''
