The Forum Mafia Statistics And Awards Thread

Re: Forum mafia statistics and awards.

Regarding themed versus non-themed:

I would highly suggest that any new moderator make their first game without a specific theme. I think just about anyone who's done a themed game as their first has made at least a couple of huge mistakes. It's harder to balance a game when you want to include all your favourite characters and give them lore appropriate powers.

Instead, make a standard game. Feel free to create a few twists in the roles, but making it 'theme generic' will allow you much more freedom in balancing and prevents cases of - "Oh, he's a main character with a role that suits him, so obviously he's town."

I think I agree, so I'll not attach it to anything obvious. I'll just make something up with random names and such.

Re: Forum mafia statistics and awards.

This is the name, thanks!
Or, maybe The Generic Vanilla Mafia Game.

No, because then I will be craving vanilla ice cream the entire time and it will cloud my mind. :p. especially the real vanilla made with the bean and covered in hot fudge sauce and whipped cream.

Vanilla has bad connotations around these parts.

Ok, The Generic Chocolate Mafia Game. Unless somebody calls that racist then well move to strawberry and that would involve the serving of daiquiris.

Re: Forum mafia statistics and awards.

Could all future hosts please post the game information (as posted on the first post) so I can easily add it in there?

Considering I'm not playing all the games, there's a chance I might miss one.

Re: Forum mafia statistics and awards.

After Pharphis' and Logo's game I would like to run a mini-game! I have a mechanic I wanna try out.

Re: Forum mafia statistics and awards.

I've been thinking about the whole day/night start debate, and have a thought to offer up (or rather, a few)

The reason we don't like night starts is that ultimately, someone doesn't get to play at all, and that sucks!
The reason we don't like day starts is that really, there is nothing to discuss, so it's really a limbo day where nothing really happens, then it's basically a night start.

What if we tried something like:

-A day start, where the person with the most votes is lynched? Obviously a tie-breaker mechanic must be included, perhaps the person that gets the most votes first? At least this way, something is sure to happen D1.

-A night start without factional kills? This of course puts anti-town at a disadvantage, as they give up a phase with no kills, but town gets a free chance to use any investigation powers. This could be countered, perhaps, by giving any team that would have a factional kill some sort of ability they can only use N1, such as jailkeeps, bus drivers, role/ability cop, etc.

Thoughts?

Re: Forum mafia statistics and awards.

Baulder's gate had the best day one I've played. An NPC was killed and we were forced to "hunt" for a dragon or some such. This gave the players something to discuss and it had in game significance since there were rewards for doing it right or wrong. Night starts suck for logout's reason and day starts without something built in to discuss suck for logout's reason.
