The Berserker Build

Re: The Berserker Build

i hit 13k with edeath cb two handed zerk barb and i calculate out my grief pb using berzerkers getting between 9-10k. both figures are without trying really hard (ie getting good charms).

Re: The Berserker Build

Trying out this build, and this is my first barb in a LONG TIME. Not so sure about it. Seems too weak, and doesn't kill fast enough.

Question about sockets though. What should I put in my stormshield + arreats?

40/15's? Or something else? I feel like I don't do enough damage/swing fast enough, so that would make sense, but my resists are not maxed in hell yet (51/75/75/51)

Also, I have no mana leach, only mana after each kill. For gear I am using a Grief phase blade and a stormshield. Enigma Archon plate. Got raven frost + BK + highlords for jewlery, gore riders for boots, and dracul's for gloves. Arreat's face is 199% defence, but only 3% LL.

Should I get a 2h Eth BOTD instead of the sheild + sword? What type of weapon best works with BOTd?

suggestions?

Berserk doesnt have the fundamentals for fast killing. Any tinkering with jewels or minor item slots aint gonna do much

42% IAS is required for the fastest Berserk swing with a phase blade so you already hit the max swing speed so I suggest just cramming 40 ed jewels in any socket or UM to max out your resists.

As Zrk said berserk doesn't have the qualities needed for a fast killer which is effects like Multi-target(Strafe,Zeal ect) ,AoE(Most spells,Multi arrow) or just plain fast attack speed if its a single target (Dragon talon).

I don't suggest a two handed weapon as with berserk because they are extremely slow and you would need to sacrifice a bit to get the IAS even with EBOTD.

Re: The Berserker Build

so in a guide thread built around a certain skill, you're going to basically say "dont bother with this skill" what kinda crap is that? berzerk isnt a fast killer? i dont know how you can say that. it sure doesnt swing as fast as Double swing, frenzy, or ww, but why do i care if it swings at 10 frames if after those 10 frames, the monster is dead?

@OP: your gear is all mish mash. life tap doesnt work with berzerk*, use laying of hands. life leech doesnt work, quit using BK and get some ar/res on your ring. mana per kill doesnt really "do" it for the build either, a bit of damage to mana works wonders. i like highlords as an ammy, but if you're hitting the ias break without it, maybe an angelic ammy/ring combo would be better or metalgrid for AR and res in good amounts. losing the deadly strike would kinda bite. in a similar vein, the mods on gores are good, but that is another place to make up res. crushing blow doesnt work as well on this build as it does on a fast hitting, low damage attack and the amount of deadly strike on them doesnt warrent the slot imo.

two handed berzerking is something i think everyone should try, but it will take a respec at this point for you. the strength of no shield is that you can skimp on dex and you'll wind up with tons of life. it is hard to get res if you're using enigma and no shield however. in fact when i made my two handed zerker, i was able to skimp on points into BO because he had enough life. i was also wanting to see what i could pull off damage wise.

speed is also affected by play style. are you using howl to get rid of the monsters you can, wc to stun those you cant before you start swinging? be sure to use your cries. battle cry and tuant are also handy to have and use.

i guess if the build strategy isnt "hold down click" some people think of it as slow no matter what...

*big old note: if you're going to be doing any uber tristing, you should probably keep the dracs (and get a bit of mana leech too in that case), but then if you're tristing, you probably shouldnt be using enigma and you definitely wont be using zerk.

Re: The Berserker Build

As per those vids the zerk build is a great boss killer/MFer, not such a great leveler or level clearer due to the lack of AOE or ultra fast melee like frenzy or zeal (which is not in the same league as any spell caster for clearing groups of mobs).

Simply use Howl to avoid the mobs and separate the mobs from the ubers. This allows you to easily kill all ubers/bosses, avoid all mobs, and get straight to the point which is rune hunting or mfing.

Nilathak is simply a walkover with this build.

Grief works very well, you need 42% IAS with a PB to reach max 2.77 berzerk attacks per second so any low IAS gear item will give you max attack speed with a decent IAS grief.

Grief is also very good to use because of the low str requirement, and if you use a light or medium armor/shield rather than heavy you can put those extra points into vitality rather than strength as you really want at least 2k hp with BO by level 80 but preferably more (especially if you don't use a shield).

As for your damage what is your AR? If you are not one shotting most mobs with a grief pb (max zerk, Howl, shout, and working on Mastery) in hell then I would be looking at your AR in the character screen, is it always at 95% chance to hit? If not then that's your problem. (Maybe max mastery earlier).

I have been using a 'Shael'd Whitstan's Guard (60%) for 4 frame blocking, but a Shael'd SS (55%) would also reach 4 frame blocking (42% for barb, 86% for 3 frame).

I use an 'Um' Arreats, Tal's Armor, Gore Riders, Highlords, 2* Ravenfrost or 1 RF ring and 1 Nature's Peace, Verdungo's, and currently Chance Guards.

Lghtning and Cold don't bother me, poison from bosses hurts, and I can take a bit of fire.

1 point in dbl swing and a light saber or [insert favourite weapon here] in the off hand is another way to do it if you prefer to clear the mobs as you go.

Also forget leech, try the Prayer Merc (act 2 combat skills) with an insight polearm and don't forget pots.
