Is moser's a good enough shield to do ubers with? I'm in lack of funds atm (only 2hr's i had went to grief) and that's the only shield i have laying around atm.

Sidequestion: iirc mephisto only does light+cold damage. So am I better off with socketing the mosers with a Ptopaz and a Psapph or should i get 2pdiamonds anyway? (IIRC, mephy is the only char where resists are really a problem cuz of his conviction)
 
dont use mosers. get a griswolds shield with 3pdiamonds.

As for the resists question, the mages around mephisto deal all forms of elemental dmg, so basically you should get fire cold and lightning (remember conviction doesnt reduce poison)
 
I wouldn't bet my life on that, not in HC.

When you're close to an Oblivion Knight they always cast Decrepify and then move backwards. The way you get IM'ed is if

1) There are multiple oblivion knights all spread out. You close the distance with one and get Decrepify'ed by that one. As you are zealing away, one of the others cast IM.

2) You are running up to an OK and they cast IM just before you close the distance and before you can yourself.

When you are close enough to the OK he will never cast anything but decrepify.

That's exactly the reason why I said I wouldn't bet my life on it in HC. It's too easy to make a mistake and get 1 hit KO. Even with being very careful, I occasionally got 1 shotted. (in SC, of course)



 
Ok, so I realised one of my mf sorcs must've found this jewel: 40%dmg, 4max. I thought of putting it in my gulli face, but I seem to remember reading something about a bug with off hand ED or max dmg? Can someone give me an idea about which bug I may (or may not!) be thinking about & whether its a good idea to put this in my gulli or whether I should put an um in instead, & sell the jewel for some currency? Thanks!

Don't, you're right about the bug... In jewels with both ED and max/min damage the ED is applied to the max/min damage added by the jewel only, and not to your total damage, if they're socketed in something other than weapons. That's why socketing a plain 40% ED jewel in your helm would add much more damage than that 40% ED 4 max jewel :(

I don't think that's how it works. I was under the distinct impression that the 40%ed would apply to everything except the min/max damage on the same off-weapon item.

Now I'm not sure, I've done a search and I've found both explanations for the ED/max and ED/min jewel bug. From the Strategy Compendium:

If a jewel adds both ed% and min dmg, the ed% will only affect the max dmg.
If a jewel has both ed% and max dmg, the ed% only affects the min dmg.


Yet here there's another poster saying basically the same you're saying, so...

After some more search there's another explanation that combines parts of both: in an ED/max jewel the ED works fine for the min damage of the character, but only modifies the jewel's +max damage which is added to the max damage of the character.

I guess someone should test this more thoroughly, I'm not really sure about which one is correct right now :scratchchin:



 
Yeah, that's probably the best idea.

I was just re-reading my source for explaining how this bug works, and I can understand how I may have misinterpreted what was being said, now that I've had it explained a different way. Very confusing.
 
I currently have: Grief, forti, guillaume's, dracul's, credendum, ravenfrost and anni, and will soon have a few more ists to spend on this build. As I've never ran UT before, I want to get this right. What do you people recommend I should add (another ring, ammy, shield)
I'll use treachery for prebuff, so resists should be taken care off.
is using salvation (lvl1) in stead of fanaticism a good idea vs mephy? (for another 60res boost), maybe until dracul's procs?
 
I'd focus on having enough LR to still have it maxed after the -125 LR from Meph's Conviction, if you need to use Salvation for that by all means do so... else there's a risk he'll 1-hit KO you even if he's got Life Tap on. If you don't have CtA I'd consider getting one, the extra life would be helpful. You don't need to spend much to be successful, for the shield you can either go for resistances (Griswold's shield with 3x pdiamond works really well) or DR if resistances are covered (Stormshield), same with the amulet (Mara's/Metalgrid for resistances, perhaps Highlords if you need the IAS) and ring (rare ring with resistances/dwarf...). I take it your boots are either Gores or Goblin Toe, right? Good luck!
 
I'll prebuff with fade, so together with salvation that gives +120 resists, together with items that should cover it (30res forti, 50res HoZ, dwarf star, ravenfrost) I won't even need res charms it seems.

I chose HoZ for the high block, resists and +2/4skills. Think I'll hold back on socketing it until after i ran UT once, to see where my biggest problem is.

Trading for gores as we speak.
 
Take into account the UT quest is Hell only, so that's an extra -100 res to account for, but with that gear and Salvation I don't think you'll have trouble keeping max resistances anyways :)
 
oh -100+anya quests. I also have anni and a +15@GC. Think I'll be fine.
edit: I have 69fire and poison res in normal gear, others are maxed (li at 80). With treachery that's +60 and lvl 4salvation (1+skills) gives another 85. Think i'm set.

I just spend 3 ists on a torch, only to realize I can't use it in UT..

I only have 1100 or so life though, this could be a problem. I'll try to get my hands on a CTA first.

I am almost finished with this build, i have all the stuff for the richest that is listed in the beggining of this thread, yet i seem to have very low damage. I have maxed fanatism and have greif and so on yet i still seem to do only something around 700-1000 dmg with my smite.

Is this something that has been changed in the later patches?

If I recall correctly, the +300~400 damage bonus from Grief does not show up on the screen, but applied anyways.

Also, keep in mind that the majority of your damage will come from Crushing Blow (which always takes a certain chunk of HP regardless of actual damage).

These two, combined with Open Wounds and Venom, is a recipe for a very efficient PvM machine.

This is what I used for my first tristram run this season, I got a nice 20/12 Sorc torch.

Helm: Kiras = 65 Resist All
Weapon: Wizzy = 75 Resist All
Shield: Gris w/ 3xp diamond = 102 Resist All
Belt: Tgods = 10 to max light resist / 20 light absorb
Armor: Enigma
Gloves: Dracs
Amulet: Maras = 22 Resist All
Boots: Gores
Rings: Raven Frost / Dwarf Star

This worked - I decided to do full smite so I maxed it along with fana, holy shield, defiance and the rest in charge.
