Hello guys!
I've been reading this thread for some time now and felt like i could do 2 things:
1st: Thank the owner/creator of this great guide, that have been inspiring many Tristam runners over all these years.
2nd: Post my own little bit of contribution with it:
My reasons:
1) This build is kind of light on skill points. Having all pre-reqs and maxed skills uses about 87 points. That leaves 14 unused points for a character at level 90 (that I usually go with the ones I play)...
2) I've seen many people (just like me) with problems to stack resistances needed to overcome Meph's conviction. I'm almost with my final gear and have only 200 lightning res (the rest is worse...). This leaves us with 2 choices:
- find a lot of resist charms to fill up the gaps (for me, this has been a pain...)
- switch to salvation when fighting Meph, loosing the benefits of fanaticism and not earning much back.
3) I have some good equipment (like Shako and Enigma, for example...), and other really cheap, but very effective (Spirit shied, Heaven's Light, etc...). Not the most appropriate to get this job done
4) I like the idea: offense is best defense!
So, I thought: I don't need max Conviction to overcome Mephs, just slvl 21 when fighting him. So, if i can get a level 11 Conviction and +10 skills from equipment, that'd be enough (and not much expensive!)
Ok, to get level 11 Conviction and all pre-reqs, I'd have to take my character to level 91, not 90 (but one could find an offensive aura skiller, or sacrifice the last point in Holy shield or something until getting that level)
For the +10 skills, I have these itens:
Weapon: Heaven's light - +3 pally skils, 33% Crushing Blow, 20 IAS and 2 sockets (probably shaels there!)
Shield: Spirit on sacred targe - +2 skills, 55% FHR, vitality, mana and 60+ resists to all but fire.
Helmet: Shako - +2 skills
Armor: Enigma (everyone's consume dream), or CoH (for more resistences, but I don't have one...) - +2 skills
Ammy: Seraph's Hymn - (imo, a very under estimated amulet) - +2 skills, + AR and + Damage% against Demons and Undead. Or you could use Maras if you have one - I don't
The other parts of the setup, go without change. (I had a hard time to put my hands on a pair of Dracul's... To just after, finding a nice wand with Life Tap charges).
Ok, I have +11 skills there, but the Heaven's light might come with only +2 skill for less lucky people... Well, I know luck people are the ones who can afford a Last Wish or that class of weapons, but anyways...
With my setup, I've got 48 Crushing Blow, what one might think is too low. You can always bring back Guil's face and compensate the remaing points. Interesting thing in Diablo's is that it resembles life: everything is a matter of choices... Hardly you'll have a perfect world, so you must make the best with what you have...
What I like about this setup is that you have 125 resistence points less to worry about AND Meph is gonna be easier to beat! After he's gone, you'll probably switch back to fanaticism and can put your + damage setup again.
Unfortunatelly, when I first found this guide, I was half way doing my hammerdin (You probably have guessed that by the type of equiment mentioned above, huh?

), with a lot of skill points already spent, I'm eager to finish that soon and start building the "fanatic zealot 1pt smiter". So, I'd like to hear you people's opinion, sugestions, experiences, etc...
