~ SPHC Ladder Part V ~

Well since my battle with Baal and the Ancients got me half way to lvl 86 I thought why not make it before retirement. So, I putted around in the Tower and Act I on /players 3 and finally made it. On a funny note I did find anther Io rune to replace the one I used in my club.

Count_Leviticus beat Diablo but not without a few close calls. I was quite surprised when his lightning wasn't stopped by my Bone Prisions and some of the damage was absorbed by my Bone Armor. I also Bone Prisioned myself right next to him once and barely had room to escape with a tp. My lady archer was smoked early in the battle and was barely helping so I didn't bother reviving her. Onwards to Act V!

I’ve started new character today – HC untwinked pure summoner neromancer Spikard! I play him by The Septavirate rules. So count me in here please.

Summoner Spikard, level 17, Act 1 normal.

I read the story of Mizan Stony's werebear and I realized that I never have played a werebear before so I decided to start one. I looked a bit at the skills available and I decided to make a Titan werebear and going for max damage. All points will go into strenght, I believe that I can get sufficient life witout putting any point into Vitality or so I hope.
My end weapon I will be aiming for is a crafted Thundermaul with as much ED as possible.
Have no idea yet how to handle OK:s there might be a problem there.

My idea is this:
Max Werebear, Lycantrophy, Oak Sage and Maul.
The rest of points I'm not sure, maybe a summoned grizzly might be nice to get the heat off my character. I have started him and one thing I noticed is that he is very slow when attacking so alot of IAS will be needed and CBF is also important.

Borlag can you please add him to the ladder.
Hope both your little baby and your GF is fine.

So my Werebear have moved a bit towards his goal of making a Guardian. He have reached the Inner Cloister at level 18. I managed to gamble a nice Maul for him as well so the Damage with the Maul and the skill Maul is almost 200 now and he have already 396 Hp with a level 1 Oak Sage.

He is quite fun to play and the speed of his attack have increased a bit with the help of sigons Gloves and Belt.

bad luck bjorn!

allanon has done the 1st 4 quest of act 5, and now only the ancients and baal stand in his way to guardianship! i must say, im scared of the ancients! very scared. note: this is the 1st time ever that i killed nithilack in hell difficulty in hc or sc!!! two or three corpse explsions after each other almost killed me, but luckily my 1600+ health saved me!!

im still not sure if i should take them on in werebear form with armageddon, or human form with volcano. i think volcano will be safer, because then i can use my teleport charges which will be VERY important, as i've find out with my guardian sorc who wasn't hit once by the ancients, due to teleport. i'll have to see.

nice thing about act, theres lots of cold immunes. however, arreat pleteau had only fire immunes, which meant i had to stay in my fragile human state and take them on with volcano.

Conq. Allanon, lev 82 Shockbear-using-Armageddon, Act 5 Hell, Ancient next.

next time you hear from me, ill be either dead or a guardian! wish me luck.

Radamant killed Smashbash. The potions didn't go down fast enough compared to the poison, and running away failed. Even after safely leading away, killing, and preventing from being resurrected all the minions, Radamant alone proved too much, even with a mercenary.

Edit: he reached level 21 before passing away.

My next single player hardcore ladder character will be a paladin. So again my usual question, what build has a chance to beat hell untwinked while doing full clears? I'm thinking the hammerdin or the avenger. My softcore avenger/zealot is doing quite alright (just beat nightmare), except for oblivion knights (using zeal = dying of Iron Maiden). Any advise?

Nice build, DX-Crawler, how shell you kill that damn Oblivion K?

Good luck Allanon! Take care of him Mordalles!

My commiserations, Lister! I would try Fanta Zealer with bow in switch for IM. He can kill anyone! Just needs some elemental damage for PI.

As for me – I do MF runs in normal Act 1. Just want to find some equipment for my first HC char. I don’t want to die easily!

Summoner Spikard, lvl 18. Normal Act 1.

Actually I have no idea at all at this moment, hope I can come up with something. Maybe a bow or something but I'm afraid that he can't be in werebear form when he is using a bow which will make him quite voulnerable to hits cause he will loose alot of life when he's not transformed

He have managed to get to act and Dry Hills WP and about to enter Halls of the dead.
He have reached level 22 and can be transformed for a rather long time now, think it's 400 seconds right now.
Act1 didn't cause any trouble have put on Sigons Gloves and belt and Cathans Seal which gives him 16 LL and he leech back every HP that the monsters take from him, and with more than 400 HP not much can kill him at this moment but I guess it will get much harder.

Hammerdins are the way to go untwinked. They only need + skills equipment (which is easily obtained) to be effective. However, aiming your hammers will take practice. I just finished my Avenger and it was VERY item dependent but possible if you take your time.

Now that my move is complete, I've found a little bit of time to play D2. Maybe it's the fact that it's a new house, new room, new computer desk, but I just didn't want to pick up where I left off with either Korbal or Dunk, so I whipped up something new - a Hunter Druid. Got him to level 7 last night.

Borlag, could you please add:

**********
Alasdair, Hunter Druid, level 7
**********

to the ladder for me?

At some point I will pick up with Korbal and Dunk again, but this way I have multiple characters with different play styles to fool around with when I have time.

SteelsixtyIV, I'm surprised you'd reccomend a hammerdin after just making guardian with your avenger.

SLoS, a hammerdin is a very powerful build, but remember that they are ver much like playing melee, they generally are in the middle of things, so you do have to be careful. It's very easy to become overconfident because of how well they kill.

Hey DX, what happened to Sniping_Ploppy?

Since last post Ursa finished act IV (got a Lem from the Hellforge, D dropped 5 useless rares and a Hsaru's Boots) and continued on through act V. She has now advanced as far as rescuing Anya, and she got the Crystalline Passage WP. I don't think I will do Nihlithak, he's just too scary. If I can survive the Ancients then I will go back and finish the quest after. She has had to do full clears, not by choice, but so that nothing sneaks up from behind. Her main strategy is to keep the merc and Valk in front of her, and try and keep safe as much as possible. The Gloams in the Frozen River were very scary, but never got too close because of constant use of Decoy. The Valk didn't even die once to the Gloams.... amazing.

But the best event was this. It dropped while fighting Eyeback, but not from Eyeback. I almost didn't see it, but picked it up when scanning the battlefield after. Woohoo!

Funny that you ask C_B because I have played with her today and she basically ran through act3 and act4 with her windforce.
The funny thing is that those two acts were much easier than the end of act2.
The entire act 4 took less time than the late part of act2 did.
Nothing really happened with her she is very safe when playing so far, hiding behind Valk, Decoy and Merc.
C_B you were lucky getting a Lem rune, myself got a Ko rune. If Lem rune would have dropped for me I could have made a Heart of the Oak but no no.
BTW congratz to your Harly very nice finds

A nice pair of Marrowwalks dropped for me in act 3 Flayer Jungle but otherwise nothing interesting thing happened. Except for the Cathan's Seal who Mephisto dropped for me

Now she have entered act5 and is ready to start the long climb up the mountain.

SLoS wanted to go untwinked and Avenger is a very item dependent build. I made it to the Ancients with average equipment but I wouldn't recommend taking them on with twinkless gear. None of the Pally builds are really easy to make Guardian with IMO.

Gratz on the progress and find BTW

I have a feeling you are going to do it this time buddy and I'm counting on you to make Guardian by the weekend. DX, on the other hand, has like fifteen Guardians (not really) and three self found Grails (possibly) already. He should slow down and let you and me catch up

Actually it's sixteen guardians
Hmm three selffound grails well I will be happy if I get one have 15,46% left but it's a long way to go. Just finding a Zod rune will be almost impossible it's a goal that I'm quite sure I won't complete.

My amazon have reached the stairs in Halls of Vaught and about to kill Nils. My Nature's Peace will keep his CE at bay and will hopefully make the fight quite easy. She have no reached the big number of level 80. That have always been a big milestone for me.

This is true... but IMHO Pally's are one of the most fun, just because of the range of possibilities, and this makes it worth the extra effort. Anyway, with a little work with MF, I think most of the standard builds can make it untwinked.

DX, man you are catching up fast. I guess a windforce will help to do that for you.

Yepp thats true the Windy helps alot. I killed Nihlathat also today. He didn't cause any trouble thanks to Nature's Peace although those nasty Tomb Vipers made the life tough for my merc and my Valk. After my Valk was poisoned it took about 5 seconds and she was dead and my merc fell even faster so no real point in reviving him. Strange thing was that my Decoy lasted longer than both my merc and Valk. Those Tomb Vipers are really a mystery and probably bugged.
Well Nils died but no level up.

A quick update and a request.

Firstly, the good news - Zelda has slain Baal and reached NM. She's now level 48, and going strong. FO is just an awesome killer (at least in Normal & NM).

Secondly, I have started three new characters, so could you please include them in the ladder, Borlag.

They are:

Tenaka, a Barbarian
Jonathon, a Necromancer, and
Athena, an Amazon.

Thanks.

Allanon will from now on be known as Guardian Allanon!!!!!!!!!!!!

The battle with the ancients was my longest battle ever in d2lod. i started out in wearbear form, but as you can't stun the ancients it quickly came apparent that volcano would be the way. after a while 2 of the 3 ancients were destroyed. only talic remained, however, he was fire immune. thus, i had to rely on volcano's physical damage. only problem, talic was stone skin as well. plus, i completely ran out of potions and talic still had 90% health!!! so, i wasnt gonna reroll the ancients. so, i summoned all my pets, constantly threw volcano at him, and when i ran out of mana i ran in circles waiting for my mana to go up, and repeat the whole process. this took around 90 - 120 minutes i'dd say. add another 15 - 30 for the 1st 2 ancients.

Baal also took quite long, due to his large amount of hitpoints. however, against baal allanon stayed in wearbear form and used armageddon. the trick was getting close to baal with all those cold v's and branchess coming out of the ground.

Guardian Allanon, lev 83 Shockbear-using-Armageddon.

this was a very fun build to play. it was extremely challenging. i started the char just for fun, to see how far i could get with this unknown build for me. i thought he won't make it far. i must say, that my 1800 health saved me from certain death on many occasions, and lots of luck went into this char. another thing, you need extreme patience with this guy. thinking back, some of the monsters he had the most difficulty with was those that heal.

anyway, ill be posting a new thread with all the stats and stories tonight.

on a final note: this is the last ladder char ill be playing for a while, as i have to concentrate on my studies. however, ill be sure to look in here to see how it goes with the rest of you.

to DX and crazy_bear, now its your turn. allanon awaits you, and then they'll celebrate in bowazon style, however, because allanon is not a real bowazon, only honoury, you'll have to show him how that is done.
