~ SPHC Ladder Part V ~

Nice to see that you have dusted off your CD and come back to the game, Good luck with your Druid.

Well the Amazonbattle continue. My Amazon have made it through act1 and have come to the desert to take care of Radament. Act 1 didn't cause much trouble. MA takes care of those Wraiths that is PI quite fast and if they get cursed I strafe away with my Lycander's which I have upgraded and added a socket in. Will put a nef rune in it really miss the knockback from Cleglaws when I switched to Laying of Hands but I had to do that to be effective.
See if I can beat my old record and get through the palace cellars with this one since my last one died down there.

Wow DX, you are catching up fast.

Wish I could find a Lycanders too... that's one heck of a good bow.

As for Ursa, I decided to go back and use a socketing quest for the demon limb. Found a Hel from the Countess, and put that in, so now she has the demon limb on switch. The AR boost and fire damage is nice.

All this because I figured I wouldn't bother trying to boost her str to 133. Then I found a cruel (281%) Hydra bow! ACK! That requires 134 str... now I'll want to get that str anyway... I'm trying to decide if it's worth that second socketing quest for the Hydra bow, when it has no other mods.... hmmm. If it were to get 2 sockets Shael Nef might be nice.

In the mean time, Ursa has reached lvl 79, and completed act2. Ran into the spider forest just long enough to get the jade figurine in act 3.

Ursa, Lvl 79 Sniperzon act 3 Hell.

@Sir Lister of Smeg - don't be too crazy - invest those stat points. This is HC & you don't get a second chance :)

I guess I read this a bit too late (although I did invest part of the points), but due to the death situation I doubt any extra life would have helped much. I was in the tower next to the countess, and noticed that my skellies didn't want to go in to her room. I had this kind of situation a lot beforehand in the tower, and ran just through the melee into the room. This used to work, even with bosspacks 'blocking' the way (I could run past them into the room) and then all the skellies entered the melee. Here however, I got stuck, I couldn't run further into the room nor backward anymore, nor was my army entering the room, and was quickly dealt with by the countess her minions and other cronies, some goatmen, all the while standing in the fire spawned by the countess.
This was especially frustrating since he didn't get into any trouble beforehand, as opposed to my assassin which was just waiting to get killed.
I should have run backward instead of into the room, oh well next time...

In short: Bonestench (RIP Countess) level 16.

The character I'm going to try next will be a barbarian, any advise as to viable builds (not that I will get that far, but I would like to have the chance to beat hell untwinked while doing full clears, I don't want to start a build of which I know I won't be able to finish unless I first gain twinking ability by getting some other character as an item finder)

Sorry to hear about your loss but I'm glad your back up and start a new one. When one of my character dies I try to figure out what I did wrong and try to learn from it and then I rebuild it and make the adjustement which I see fit and I almost always improve the way of playing that certain type of character.

If you want to make a barb I would go with a concentrate barb. Sword and shield would be nice when you are playing untwinked. Otherwise I would suggest a large twohanded Club but it can be hard to get a good one untwinked so I think a sword and shield be better.

The basic setup would be:
Max Shout, BO, Concentrate and Mastery.

Don't forget some nice one point wonders like taunt which makes you insult a monsters and he comes to kill you, very good to use so you don't have to chase those nasty archers, and they will stop firing at you until they close and that's where you wan't them.

Rest of the point you can experiment a bit with, don't forget Berserk to deal with PI:s and OK in act4-5.

Hope it helps, Good luck

sorry, read the next one, and ignore this one .. . go on then, nothing here for you . . . still here . . . dont worry . . . its safe . . . everyone makes mistakes . . . like posting the same message twice . . .

Sorry to hear it Sir Lister! Don't have a clue what would be the best barb build.

Anyway, Allanon has now moved up to number 6 on the druid ladder, however, he is the second highest shapeshifting druid and the highest wearbear on the ladder!

Allanon feels as if he is also taking part in the bowazon battle, even though he isnt an amazon, or owns a bow, yet he likes to pretend he is someone he's not.

Allanon killed andy fairly easy. The catacombs took ages, because there were so many fire immunes. The sewers in the act 2 also took long, fire immunes!
The skill point was well received. He also went through the maggot lair and claw viper temple with no real problems. Those vipers were cold immune. hee hee. I found no nice items. :cheesy:

Conqueror Allanon, lev 77 ShockBear-using-Armageddon, Act 2 Hell.

edit: oops! somehow i posted twice. sorry AE. don't banish me! i beg you!

SLoS my next baba project looks like this:

200 STR, 100 DEX, 200 VIT, ENG Base
Max Conc, BO, Shout, and Iron Skin
1 point pre reqs + Zerk, BC
5 Natural resist

Classic 1.09 Iron Baba formula

No points in Weapon Mastery, use highest damage two-hander you find, Blessed Aim Merc.

I have tried two sword and shield Zerkers before and my highest was a lvl 75. It's a solid build so check out NF's guide in the build thread.

I have played several untwinked meele characters and it's hard work in hell. Good luck with your build and be mindful of FE monsters.

Sir Lister, sorry to hear about that death.

I've also had success (well, at least up to Conqueror status) with a conc Barb, much as outlined by SteelSixtyIV. If you haven't started a char yet, consider a melee paladin instead though. IMHO they are actually easier to play than Barbs. Frost Zealots are a good cookie cutter, and Avengers never have to worry about immunes.

Mordalles, I guess we can make Allanon an honorary Amazon... it's kinda fun having the three of us so close together in progess.

Sir Lister, sorry to hear of the early demise of your Necro. Good luck with the Barb. I'll put my vote behind the conc barb, too. Mine just entered A5 Norm and was the safest Diablo killer I ever had.

Bullseye_Baby is hearing the call of Mordalles and Crazy_Bear. She's near the same location but still in NM. She'll try to catch up (she'll fail, but what the heck  ).

She cleared the Canyon in record time and watched her mighty helpers pwn Ancient Kaa (can't have taken more than about 5 seconds). She's also picked up a handy String of Ears. Sounds disgusting but fits her quite nicely, thank you very much. Onward to the big slug.

Sir Lister, I'm sorry to hear about your necro. I hope you'll have better luck with your barbarian. I'm afraid I've never played a barb in 1.10, so me giving you advise would be rather pointless...

Serena the Amazon has made good progress, and she's halfway act2 at level 22. I'm probably going to max lightning fury, lightning strike and charged strike, put enough points into Valk to get her to 17, and put the rest in Avoid/Evade/Dodge. I still don't know if I'm going to take her through Hell; that was pretty hard for my Assassin, and she had the Death sentry to take care of Lighting immune critters once merc and shadow had killed one... But on the other hand, it would be quite a challenge... We'll see!

I've read about the Triumphirate (spelling?) and I might join... I already have one Guardian, only 6 to go... :flip:

Quick session for me last night. Went from start of Act 2 to retrieving the cube. No notable finds or NDEs.

Third post today... I must be addicted or something

First of all, just noticed I made a mistake earlier I can't edit now: my conc barb is a Destroyer, not a Conqueror.

Anyway, couldn't sleep, played a couple more hours tonight. Did the Flayer Jungle, and the first 2 parts of Kurast, including the ruined temple to get the book. Had to park a boss in the temple. FI/PI/CE. The regen rate was enough to keep up with lvl 23 FA because of the high resist for CE. Couldn't hurt this one.

Out of a random boss in Lower Kurast: Mavina's Embrace. I've been saving the Mavina's belt in her stash thinking I might find other pieces, but still 3 more to go, seems unlikely, but it would sure be sweet if she did find them. It's just that her resists suck without the armour she's wearing now!

Also, Ursa made a milestone in my eyes: lvl 80. Still a long way off Guardian though.

Conqueror Ursa, lvl 80 Sniperzon, Act 3 Hell, Kurast Bazaar

thanks crazy-bear! Allanon is honoured. he went and bought himself a cracked short bow for 5000gold (his not familiar with current market prices) and has been practising hitting cain.

anyway, havent played, will later today when i get home from varsity. try to finish act 2 today.

Well if anyone is interested, here are a bit of update on my chars (i haven't updated since half a year). These are almost all started back then.

Arcain, level 84 amazon starting Act III hell. She is playing in the ABC team in 3waydance tourney (yes the rules are much stricter than sphcl ones). She uses javelin and passive skills. Lightning Fury, Plague Javelin.

CrazyOak, level 49 double thrower starting Act II nightmare.

Boolean, level 83 sorceress, ABC team, fire and light skills, Hydra/Chain lightning. Just about to kill hell duriel.

Cyran, level 83 necro, just about to kill hell duriel. Summoning/curses. Skelemancer with lots of revives.

Ali Baba, lvl 36 barbarian, frenzier with dual daggers (yes daggers).

SKH, level 27 paladin, hammerdin wannabe.

Yemen, lvl 57 druid, act II nightmare. Kinda mixed. Wanna use the druid set once grown up.

LeadsTheBlind, level 20 naked sorceress somewher in Act V normal. It was the winner of a naked tourney (get the farthest while remaining as low level as possible).

Csarmi I see that you play with a daggerbarb. I can make a strong contribution if you want to, got a nice bone knife from Pindle some weeks ago:

Loat Thirst
Bone Knife
76-163
233% ED
+101 AR
9% LL
Replenish Life 4
40% IAS
+Max Damage based on character level
AR based on character level

If you are interested I can give it to you.

I started a barbarian, if he gets that far he will be using concentrate as main skill. Smashbash is now level 10, so far I've put points in prerequisites/onepointwonders and the rest in shout. I'm not sure yet which will be his main weapon and as such I haven't yet put any points in masteries. Related, I've kept a few spare stat points to put in dex or str as needed, most of the points I put into vit so far. His next goal is going through the underground passage. As usual Bloodraven was quite problematic, and taunt did not seem to work on her, howl was a good means of zombiecrowdcontrol as expected.

That's correct taunt don't work on any kind of bosses or Super Uniques. But it's very useful still because you can lure the minions from the bosses and handle the boss when he is alone

Well after two days of intense playing Arcane_Slayer is now lvl 85 and the top Avenger on the ladder

you can see the screenshot in my yahoo briefcase:

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/coldsteel64

I don't plan on talking on the Ancients anytime soon so consider this his semi-retirement. I will be playing him every now and again but will not level any more. If I decide to challenge the Ancients anytime soon I will let everybody know. Now I can concentrate on Count_Leviticus and his quest for Guardian.

Congratz to the progress with your Avenger SteelsixtyIV
I had one myself before HCladder started and I had alot of fun playing with him.

My Amazon have reached the Palace Cellars right now and about to enter see if I can find the corpse of my other Amazon. This time I will be very careful and scout alot with my Decoy in the cellars. It's really a dangerous place to be in.
The knockback I got on my Lycanders works very well and makes it a bit more safe than before. Never though a low level rune like Nef would be that useful.

Bullseye_Baby has cleared out all the tombs and is about to open the door to the slug chamber. As expected, the bane of her existence has been skellies and unravellers. They get revived as fast as she and her friends can kill 'em :grrr: so she had to resort to the tiring and tedious "run-away-and-let-them-follow" method.

I guess it worked since they're all dead and she's not. :uhhuh:

Congratz, Steel. Top of the pops!
