some very usefull recipes that don't seem to be commonly known....

I've been playing for a awhile and it's come to my attention that not to many know about the cube recipes to socket armor, shield, weapon, and helmets.
These recipes put the max amount of sockets a particular item can contain, i.e. a assault helm has 3 sockets, so these would put 3 sockets into it, as long as it has no prior sockets, and is normal ( white lettered ). These recipes came from http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml

so note they are not my original findings, i'm merely spreadin the news.

Transmute Formula 1 Tal Rune + 1 Thul Rune + 1 Perfect Topaz + Normal Body Armor = Socketed Body Armor of same type
The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-4 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. The chance to get X sockets in most armor is 1/4 (I.E: Mage plate has a max of 3 sockets, so it has a 2/4 [1/2] chance to get 3 sockets). The base of 6 was used in the ratios for all the above mentioned areas.

Transmute Formula 1 Ral Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Normal Weapon = Socketed Weapon of same type
The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-6 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there's a 5/6 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/6 chance of getting 1 socket.

These WILL work on ethereal and/or superior items, as long as they are not unidentified when u get them, so if u find an armor thats like eth sup loricated mail, u can use the armor formula to put max sockets into it. but if it has Unidentified, it won't work. the formulas say theres a chance of getting less then max sockets but i've dont these tons of times and always have gotten max amount possible.

These are extremely well-known recipes.

This is entirely wrong. First, the recipes do not work on superior items. Second, there are no unidentified nonmagical items, including those which are superior or ethereal. However, perhaps that was your way of saying that it won't work on magical, rare, set or unique items. Third, the number of sockets from the recipes is random, from 1 to 6, but the actual number is capped by the maximum number of sockets possible which means that e.g. 50% of the elite armors will get their maximum of 4 sockets (4/5/6 -> 4).

1 Gul + 1 cracked sash + SOJ + key = 9-socket ethereal glove with +1 light radius and +20 to all skills.

how about using it for prebuff? and if ur in town well...

where can i buy 1 of these?
hehe

Instant death.

Unless you have that new runeword, Noobwad (ZodZodZodZodZodZodZodZodZodEl) which gives 100% resistance to death.

I can always depend on gorny and dondrei to veer a topic off course...

wait, just realized dondrei is posting too often in comm forum...

So what would be good items to use with these recipies, and how many sockets should one look for?

Could one make some profit from putting sockets in white items and selling them on to be used for runewords?

Eth armour pieces that get cube socketed gets a second eth bonus, resulting in much higher defense, therefore these "bugged" armours are favorable to make merc runewords (4 sockets ones normally, forti/stone).

Eth elite paladin shields with res for exile rw.

Elite amazon bows with +3 skill that have no sockets, if you roll 4 sockets you've got a great bow for faith/ice.

eth elite polearms for insight/infinity/pride etc (in short 4 sockets most usefull on them, cv has max 4 sockets so you can lazaruk those instead of cubing), note that 5 and 6 sockets are still usefull.

Eth/non eth Berserker axes, 5 sockets are worth the most. Phase blades 5 sockets for greif.

etc, just take a look at all the runewords and see if your armour/weapon would be more valuable if it has less sockets then max (if the best runewords are ones you can make in it if it has max sockets, then you can always lazaruk the item, unless you want the dual eth bonus (armour only))
