Some SP questions

I have some (barbarian) questions:
a) Is "Cannot be Frozen" immune to all kinds of freezing? I thought so, until I met a Freeze Aura monster. Why do I freeze then and is there a way to become immune to that freeze, too?
b) Taunt is nice but why doesn't it work on some (regular) monsters like Oblivion Knights and Minions of Destruction?
c) Could you give me some "best practices" when cursed with Iron Maiden? And how can I prevent my mercenary from melee attacking when cursed?

a) The holy frost aura of which you speak is a slow effect... not a freeze effect. Probably not by intent, but that's the way it works.

b) no idea. Thought it did. I'm not a fan of barbs though, so you'll have to wait for a better answer.

c) I run back to an area where I've cleared the monsters and wait it out. If you get close to an oblivion knight, he'll cast decrepify which overwrites the IM curse. You can do that too. I prefer to run and wait it out.

b) Because some monsters are immune to manipulation. The game designers seem to have taken many steps to avoid 'one-solution-fits-all' scenarios, and I think this is part of that effort.

c) There isn't much you can do to prevent the merc from attacking other than running/teleporting away so that he's out of range of monsters. For yourself, simply don't bother to attack under IM (you'll take some damage, so have your potions ready) and run around to get re-cursed by another Oblivion Knight. Like Shags' said, if you get into melee range they'll cast decrepify.

So the aura doesn't dish out cold damage? Even without CBF items? I coulda sworn I was taking cold damage.

The damage is cold, it is just that the HF slow effect is exempted from CBF negation. It makes no sense, but that is the way it is. The other way around, Frenzytaurs and Baal are immune to HF slow, but little else.

There is a small amount of damage that's 'pulsed' by the aura every two seconds. It isn't much, but if your cold resists are in the negative it can hurt quite a bit.

And there's no way to not be chilled by the Holy Freeze aura. This is one of the reasons Duriel is such a pain since he's always got that aura.

As for Iron Maiden, Mega's suggestion of taking off your merc's weapon is good. And if you yourself get cursed you can always switch over to a ranged weapon (bow, xbow, javs, etc) and you'll no longer be in danger. Common selections could include Skystrike, Buriza, Hellrack, Gimmershreds...

Also, Barbarians can use Berserk (converts all physical damage to magical) without fear of killing themselves off.
