Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

WoRG, maybe we look at the game slightly differently? I get the impression that you were in the Sewers only to get a heart. I am in the Sewers because I have reached the part of the game where I am playing in the Sewers (and clear them out) and finding the heart is just something that happens along the way.

I actually really enjoy the single-pass mentality and playstyle, though I must admit I'm less hardcore about killing that super-deadly boss with impossible mods than you are. That said, I also understand and enjoy the wealth-building aspect of multi-pass, rerunning bosses, etc...since we are allowed to do so in this tourney, I happily do so with gusto, with the primary goal of helping EVERY character I play make it to Guardian.

Its not that Organa COULDN'T have cleared the sewers...Firewall is actually awesome with the way the map is layed out there, I simply didn't think that the risk/reward ratio in the Sewers justified sticking around for more than she had to to get the heart. She did do all the side areas that aren't strictly necessary...Arachnid Lair, Swampy Pit, and all 6 Kurast Temples were cleared (even though she found the book in #2...).

BTW, Organa has no staffmod items that give GS, and we aren't allowed to use prereq skills now that we're past normal difficulty, so Glacial Spike is not available to her...she should probably look for a white/grey orb with GS for future utility...Nilathak's temple comes to mind, he can't explode 'em if they're ice cubes...

@Skunkbelly: you have mail...

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Obviously not playing in this tourney, but I have been reading it with great interest. Something in WoRG's spoiler description caught my eye.

Also, most of her FCR comes from 2 items, which I chose for her back in Act5 Normal: the Suicide Branch (50%FCR) dropped from Baal and was her socket reward, and Magefist (20%FCR), also from Baal, was her personalization reward...with Stealth (25%FCR), 105%FCR was easy to attain...

I thought Larzuk's holes did not make an item immediately usable. How can this character be using two uniques in normal A5 as well as A1-A4 nightmare? The most you could use (assuming it's not jewelery or charms) is one from the single personalization quest. Did I misread the rules or were they ammended?

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

You must have just missed it. In act 5 you get to equip/use: larzuk socketed, Anya personalized, and Anya rare reward.

OK.

My post was probably biased by the fact that this is my #1 favourite area in the whole game.

Ah, I forgot about the need for staffmod to use GSpike. Good point. You really have to go check the rules whenever you get a new class. Come to think of it, Sorceress is the only class I have not played.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

No problem Thomh, should have plenty of time even at Dooku's plodding pace. He predictably hasn't changed much since I saw him in the previous act, and I suppose probably won't before he moves along to Harragoth. Act V should provide some nice upgrades though. Incidently, it's my second go-round with Dooku vs Diablo... hope to see him again in Hell ;)

Glad to hear Ahsoka's making progress...
Particularly that she has a better socket/personalization reward waiting... there were one or two I was really hoping for from Mephisto, but no luck (Organa clearly plundered the lot of them). Somewhere in the flayer jungle a rare Ballista dropped... couldn't help but whince at the possibility.

The peace armor swap was just a matter of time... the valk repopping was really a burden. Funny I didn't even consider swapping with the merc though.

I still haven't seen a druid come my way, and no paladins since Skywalker in act I of normal.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

urgggh I hate hate hate the sewers! I just run the outside to find the stairs down, even on single pass!

On a tournie related note, I have never played this type o amazon before (I know!) but have to say I am a little underwhelmed. Powerful enough I guess, but nothing to write home about.

Amazons always underwhelm me a little. The future prospects considering single damage type output are a little worrying too

She has taken out izual. Probably wont get much more time to play before next week, but I doubt she will have much in the way of problems. The gloams all over the place barely fazed her, although slowed her down a bit cos of their resists

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

I agree on hating the sewers, but I always clear them on single pass still.

I too worry about the single element, but she has valk and merc, so she can certainly still make it through.

This round ends at the end of this week remember!

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

kestegs - I already ok'd an extension for myself - I got mad exams this week

cheers though .. it is easy to forget with act 4

Mothma discussion
I kinda see the other issue being that with valk, not only can another element not be used, but Mothma cant even get pierce, so LF is massively hobbled unless the PERFECT unique drops.

Really she is playing like an underpowered charged strike zon, without the safety skills or any damage variant. She doesnt even have any support skills for the valk/merc to benefit from other than ... inner sight! Not a gamechanger, that one.

She will be fine, but when I realised I was getting a LF zon I expected a true powerhouse, and she aint that, despite maxed primary skills and a decent valk

Hint: it´s
an exceptional unique bow - and one of the hardest uniques in the game to find a perfect version of; it has four abilities with large variantion spans.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Chewbacca has successfully defeated Diablo. Progress wasn't exactly fast, but there were no scary situations. I'll try to level him a bit until sunday.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

I know exactly what you mean, jiansonz, and that *is* some terrific luck for her. Especially if it's a good roll.

It is pretty good on the most important stat, +%ED. If you set 1 as being the worst possible outcome, and 51 as being the best possible, Ahsoka´s weapon is a 40.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

I can only genuflect in admiration at crypticness jiasonz... but I'm glad she's ended up with something better than I was able to send along.

I may struggle to get... er... whatever my current character's name is (I recall it being a Barb) sent along by Sunday, due mainly to being sick as a dog most of this week. We'll see how I go, but just thought I should say something now.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Vader is now waiting in Act 5!

I completed Treachery for Vader but I don't know how the special details of how Venom interacts with Poison Dagger, so I left decisions about that to the Act 5 player and just went through the act without much fuss and not allocating the skill points he had saved or the new ones he got. The Venom from Treachery lasts a long time and so switching it with merc helper worked well since there was Lower Resist casted. The only real skill choices are Corpse Explosion or Lower Resist. If I had to choose, I would decide for CE since it has increasing returns with the big radius and will be needed in Hell but perhaps someone who knows more can decide better!

SWITCHES for NM ACT 5
You may send your character to the next player as soon as you are ready. Ideally, you should send them by Today, but as several have noted, there might be some delays.

IMPORTANT: You may not look at your Act 5 NM character until you have sent your Act 4 character to the next player.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Ackbar sent to Cenyth

When I received Ackbar I soon realized why he was under leveled...he was pretty powerless.

Took a look at his gear and saw an plain eth partizan on the merc, I thought hmm, if that gets 3os it could make a nice strength! if not I can always throw some junk in it to at least help out a bit. So how many sockets did it get? 5! at first I was like: dang it! Then I came to my senses and made a sweet Honor out of it

I also rolled a couple of blood nagas, nothing stellar, but a minor improvement over his kings grace.

Play was pretty decent with the upgraded merc damage. Ackbar is pretty much the merc's merc. Ackbar only does 700 max damage right now, and that's with a HoW and might merc...ughhh. So play was pretty much just keep things stunned with shockwave (from helm) and let the merc/bear tear through stuff. Everything was pretty safe and easy for the most part, just not overly fast.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Amusing assignments...

My trail starting with act II NM: Dooku, Ahsoka, Dooku, Ahsoka. And both times passed Dooku to Thomh! Happy to see Ahsoka again... should be smooth sailing, particularly after Shenk & Larzuk.

Dooku's killed Diablo and should be sent shortly, might still poke around with him a little bit.
Act 4 didn't see any major upgrades... about 2.5 levels, another +1 to his summon prebuff. Lots of room for improvement, though he does have some decent candidates saved for act 5 rewards.
