Skillz Tournament: Get Ready To Play

Destroyer Asha is now in Act I of Nightmare. After defeating Baal and company the allotted number of times he is now level 51. Baal dropped absolutely nothing of use and his minions barely ever dropped even a magical item. Will see how difficult nightmare is later today.

@Resipsa-That sucks, oh well which was the second seal you opened? Lord De Ses or Infectors seal? I hate running diablo, I always seem to get myself killed that way...

@Randall-No its never too late, good luck!

@Paradox of Reality-Nice job, thats pretty far with a holyfire paladin

@jiansonz-nice shield, I would probably put 2 p diamonds in it for the added resists, also claps for the nice gloves, awesome mods to go with the Mf :)

@Krollin-Welcome to the tourney, goodluck with your MA bowazon!

@Fallen_62-Welcome to even more players, wow this tourney really pulled in a lot more people than i thought it would!

@Edge666-Hope the ancients treat you nicely, oh and no IP games with fellow players, you're right it would give an unfair advantage.

Quick update on Iconoclast. Because I have been playing heavily in the Team Battles tournament, Iconoclast hasn't yet completed his runs of Normal Diablo, Baal, and cows...I made a few trips but they dropped absolutely nothing of use...Baal has a nasty habit of dropping s/u items that I already have in my stash.

I now have 2 Baal tries, 3 Diablo tries, and 5 cow tries left. I've decided to run the bosses at players 1 b/c players 5 takes too long and /players, from what i understand, doesn't make that much of a difference in terms of how the boss drops.

Although I haven't been making much progress, I see that no one (except possibly Paradox of Reality) has caught up to me yet. Hopefully that wil change soon, and once it happens I will kick Iconoclast back into overdrive.

I believe it was Lord De Ses...I was suddenly surrounded by some very hot fire and some very strong bad guys. I enjoyed my brief time in the tourny and will send you an email tomorrow with my best items. Thanks for setting up the tourny.

Oh no, sorry to hear about the losses, Resipsa and Goober. I find that the bosses are frequently difficult in Normal (or at least slow), so I'm not going to bother to run any of them more than once, apart from possibly Andariel if I find her easy. NM, however, can be much more profitable.

Wulfgar is doing quite nicely. While I haven't had much time to play him, he's now up to level 14, and has rescued Cain. The only really disappointing part is that he hasn't found anything useful yet. He's still using a scepter with some ED, so I'm holding back on his mastery (I really want to be using swords). Still, he's got all of his skills available now, and will be progressing to the Black Marsh and (hopefully) beyond soon.

Diana, the Kickin´ Bow Assassin, is doing great. Now she has teamed up with her second and last mercenary, Bill the Barb, and has reached the Frozen Tundra, at level 33. I´m sticking with my original plan: a one-pass full clear on /players 1 the whole way.

The character is really starting to play out like I intended her to. She has inherited Sharyn´s 'Zephyr' Composite Bow and fires it very quickly. It doesn´t do all that much damage but she very much owns the imps, at least...
In the future, physical damage will be of no importance when using the bow. Elemental damage (most likely lightning and/or poison), fast attack speed and special effects is what I will be looking for.

Bill is doing well, using a Fine War Sword of the Leech. When he gets strong and dextrous enough, I will likely gamble him a nice rare War Sword, then upgrade it to exceptional. I actually have a magical socketed Dimensional Blade I have cubed a couple of times. Darn, I should have kept the result where it had about +25% damage and two sockets and inserted two flawless skulls. That would have easily beaten the current War Sword. I guess I was greedy for more. Oh well...

Diablo left a great gift: The General´s Tan Do Li Ga (Flail) A very good weapon which will look even better as a Knout.

Main tactic is to let Bill tank and have Diana plink away with the bow. Cast Cloak of Shadows when needed. Every now and then (like against Champion packs of Abominables or Frozen Creepers), when I see that Bill will not be able to hold his own and Cloak of Shadows is not enough to help him, the situation calls for a drastic charge of tactics. Diana takes a deep breath, switches weapons, closes in and unleashes her inner buttkicker. The result is often VERY ugly indeed...

I have put a perfect diamond and an Eld rune in the rare Tower Shield. I have placed stat points on level-ups mostly in the "3 DEX, 2 VIT"-fashion for a while now. Blocking is at a respectable 52% at the moment.

Had an exciting moment in the Glacial Trail. An Evil Urn spawned a boss pack of Frozen Creepers right at the spot and two of the minions trapped Diana between themselves and the urn. The boss had Multiple Shots. Now there is a creature that has been overusing its breath mints. Holy crap!

I kept my cool and had Diana kick away one of the minions to break free. I still felt a need for a full rejuve, though.

I hope to finish Normal this evening. Good luck to all characters that are still alive!

Thx,

Welcome all, I see some are playing good while others died so quickly. Good luck to all of you and see you in 'Hell' one way or another.

Seeing that 3 MA Assasins are already played I will try to walk a different path. Meaning 'Lilith' will be a trapper sin. (She is now only lvl 1)

It will be Fireblast, Shockweb and Charged Bold Sentry as they are nicely synergised with each other.
I have to see which are doing better, I think I'll push all three up to lvl 6 to see how these traps work and the damage is while synergized a bit more. I might add a bit of BoS as running speed is not a bad thing for a trapper.

Well here my progress: Eager-Beaver is now level 38 in act 5 normal awaiting the ancients. Barloc (mercenary) is following behind at level 36, but I hope to buy a new one in nightmare difficulty.

If anyone is curious about my build thus far here it is:

20pts - Sacrifice (for +12% damage to zeal per level)
20pts - Zeal
20pts - Might
Other points - probably skills such as thorns, resists, cleansing, prayer, smite, etc.

I was wondering this as well... are we allowed to play this tournament in TCP/IP games with friends (like Fallen_62) also in this tournament? I just figure it isn't since that would be added help and might disrupt the tournament a little. Let me know I guess

I'm at work right now, so I have no real details, just wanted to stick my head in and say I'm still here. I've been having "writhing on the floor, sick as a dog, turn off that darn light" migraine headaches for 4 days, so I didn't get much play time in this weekend. I did have a couple of lucid hours in which I finished Act 2 and completed my 5 Duriel runs, which yielded nothing useful. I got a couple of set weapons that I won't use, and a few decent rares, most of which I wouldn't use. I did the first Act 3 quest, found the waypoint and stopped there. Hopefully this week I'll make some more headway. I'm hoping to be through Act 3 by Wednesday, if not sooner, and I'll do a real update eventually too.

My Merc has a polearm with some life leach, but I haven't had the time or energy to cube him up a Savage yet, so he gets hurt occasionally. And when he dies, it can get ugly in a hurry. Aeronwy doesn't do so well, solo.

I did notice one strange thing when fighting Duriel. The first 3 times and the 5th time I killed him, he stayed focused on my merc whenever he was alive, but the 4th time, he completely ignored my merc the entire time and chased me. I tried portaling out, I tried running through my merc, I tried letting him hit me, then backing off, so he should have spun around to hit my merc, nothing worked. It was like he had some colossal grudge against me and wasn't letting it go...ever. Eventually, I just went toe to toe with him and whittled away at him, which meant I was slowed the entire time, which meant it was a very slow battle. All the other times I was able to stay out of the holy freeze range and it was over rather quickly, with just one trip to town for potions each run. Anyway, any clues about this change in behavior? I would like to avoid such unpleasentries in the future.

Aeronwy, level 28-29 (somewhere in there) in Act III

There is a bug of monsters ignoring your merc that can happen if the merc is auto-teleported due to you being too far away. For some reason the monsters tend to treat the merc as if it didn't exist (apart from taking damage, of course).

Wulfgar has advanced to the Black Marsh, and had quite an easy time killing the Countess. Easy enough that I'm thinking of killing her four more times to scoop up some runes. He managed an Eth, which wasn't too bad, and has been able to upgrade some of his items.

Wulfgar is now level 15.

What exactly do you want to receive with E-mail. Other than the best item I found at a specific requested time ?

Due to RL I had very (very) little playtime yesterday. Actually I just run out of the rogue camp, killed enough monster for a single lvl-up and stopped again.

Lilith - Lvl 2
Best found item - A stamina potion ... sorry, sold it allready. Ok the standard given claw.

Usually I have more time tuesdays so I should have a better update for tomorrow.

Randall

I had much less time for playing yesterday than I thought I would have, so I only played through Frozen Tundra and Infernal Pit. The first thing I found on the Tundra was a Gem Shrine, which led me to return to Fara and buy yet another 3-socketed Breast Plate in which I put two perfect topazes. At the first defense line, I found some near-perfect (39%) Chance Guards. MF is pretty good now. Lightning resist is not so good (40% with the bow) but I can always switch back to my lovely rare gloves when needed.

I also found the first exceptional unique, Venom Grip (Demonhide Gloves). I was not impressed by these gloves, but it´s nice to know that the early exceptional uniques can drop now (Gimme Skystrike, please!! :flip: ).

I cubed the Dimensional Blade once more and got a Gold Dimensional Blade of Frost with two sockets. Even though it has no +% damage, it still does more damage than the old War Sword and has the same speed. It also has slightly more life steal (it has 6% from two flawless skulls), AR bonus and of course the chill factor. These little improvements were enough to give Bill some extra edge and make him dominate even more than before. He still got killed three times in a row against a pack of Champion Hell Lords in the Infernal Pit. My, those were nasty!

Diana the Kickin´ Bow Assassin, level 34, Ancients Way next.

Say hello to Destroyer Diana!

The battle with the Ancients was tougher than I expected. They probably spawned with some good weapons. I had to feed both Diana and Bill more potions than I thought I would.

I don´t know what happened to Baal. He kept focused on Bill but didn´t seem to be able to damage him. His cold V didn´t even turn him blue. Weird.

I played Blood Moor + Den of Evil. Main reason was that I wanted the Cold Plains waypoint so I could do some faster shopping (the exit from camp was to the southeast, past Akara, and then across a rather long bridge).

I forced myself to lay off some Magic Find (I sold the Chancies, among other actions) to get better resists. They "main three" are clearly over 50 with the bow now, and maxed with the shield. For Bill´s kills (that rhymed!), there is still almost +200% MF going on..

I bought a pair of Coral (30%) Demonhide Boots of Wealth. The difference in kicking damage compared to a pair of Greaves is staggering.

Diana the Assassin, level 37, Cold Plains, Nightmare.

Ok,

I had a bit more playing time yesterday evening, Lilith advanced to level 14. (Everything played on players 8)

In the very early levels I went melee fighting only, after getting enough lvl's for the skills and better mana pool now I am more and more using the traps.

I have had small encounters with Corpsefire, Bishibosh, Blood Raven, Treehead Woodfist and Griswold yesterday. None of these was a real thread to my life, but Blood Raven doing cold damage was really anoying and made the fight slow. But then, she gave me the best item so far, a Blood Crescent. I especially like the +15 life and the +15% res all on this weapon which will probably last a long way.

Am I allowed to use my "best" found item, which is lost in case of death, or should I put it seperate in a stash for the prize items.

Randall

After some technical difficulties involving an overheated cooling fan :( I have been able to resume play :)

FishWife, aged 17, and her companion, Annor, aged 10, met and disposed of a bitter old woman in the depths of some mouldy old cellars who dropped a Ral rune when she died
Some grumpy old git guarding a hammer whatsherface wanted in camp has also been disposed of.

Somehow FishWife managed to lose the hammer on route to Charsi however there should be no problem doing the grumpy old git again.

@jiansonz: Congrats with the destroyer

Hi,

Wow, a whole Ral from the countess. She dropped me 2 runes. (2 El's  )
In doing so she made one lvl up. I lowered the player setting to 3 as the progress was getting way to slow.

Lilith - Trapper sin - Level 15

Don't drop the players level even if progress is slow. You want to get as many levels under your belt per Act that you progress through as possible, especially in Normal/Nightmare.
If you do have to drop it then drop it from 8 to 6, if 6 is too tough then 5 and so on.

Arthur, Mauling Werebear, Lvl 26, Act 3 Normal
************************************

After a VERY hard-fought battle with Duriel (I had to resurrect my merc about 6 times), Arthur has made it to Act 3. Now dealing with those pesky flayers on the way to one of my favourite areas - Kurast.

Just one green item found so far - Arctic Belt - and no golds.
