Skillz Tournament: Get Ready To Play

Well my necro Magus is now lvl 11 waiting in Stony Fields to continue on. He's been more of a general so far (except without the army :uhhuh: ). Also I've noticed people putting things up for trade. I didn't read anything about trading in the rules but I went over them pretty fast. So are we allowed to trade with other participants in the tourney?

Well, sadley I wont be able to play D2 for about a week or 2 plus :( so sadly Pandora steps down from the tourney, 3 weeks from now, April 14, send in your best item, and either a screenshot of your death, or your current waypoint and act quest screen. Good luck to all participants! :thumbsup:
 
so it's not a "go until you die/guardian yourself" eh? april 14th.... ill prolly be guardian by then :D (yah right...) and yes trading is allowed, it was a rule stated later on somewhere in the discussion, its not on the actual rule list on the front page.
 
April 14 may not see everyone through as far as they may prefer, but it's your tourney. I was kind of hoping for a shot at Guardian (OK, realistically, Destroyer), but that's just how it is.

Wulfgar has reached level 4. I didn't really have time to play him, just had about half an hour to start him up & everything. So he got started and ran around the Blood Moor on Players 8. Worked well when he found a couple of XP shrines and used those to boost his levelling. He will go for the Den of Evil soon.

At the moment, I'm boosting up his strength & dex, with a little in vitality. Just spreading the skills around the level ones, and waiting for him to find/buy a good sword. I hate having no cash at the start - it's just so slow.
 
I too was kinda hoping this would be a 'go until you die/Guardian' tourney. Regrettably RL gets in the way of D2 quite a bit as I have 2 jobs...

Oh well, as Mage says, it's your tourney.

I won't quit because of this though and, if the tourney ends before I die, Arthur will become an HCL character but still play to the same rules (just to see how far I would have got).

Arthur is level 7 and on the way to rescue Cain. Playing at /players5. He's found nothing of interest so far except a rare jewel with 20/2 poison damage. Hit a monster and just watch its life fade away. Fun! :lol:
 
Diana has full cleared act 1, on players 1. She´s level 16 now and will get a second Dragon Talon kick after the next level up.


But if there is a time limit to the tournament, I will drop out. I have great hopes that Diana will make it far into the game but she doesn´t like to feel rushed. I need full freedom to choose which of my tourney characters to play in a gaming session and full freedom to decide whether I should play D2 at all on any given day.

I was also hoping this was a go until you die tourney. If Brooklyn isn't dead by the 14th, I will continue to play her by these rules just to see how far she can go. :scared:

I was also disappointed to read about the Apr 14th deadline...

I don't get much time to play D2 that regularly and the pally is a fairly survivable char so I doubt he will be dead by then...

There should definitely be a new tourney-like thread after Apr 14th for ppl who still are advancing their chars for this tourney to post about their progress. This was a really good idea for a challenging char...

Jade has played the entire way on /players 8. She is now in possesion of the full Horadric Staff, and is poised to enter the harem. I have an Act 2 defiance merc, and I've been letting him get most of the kills. I think he is level 22 or 23 now.

My finds were very slim until Rakinishu (3rd run) netted me a nifty new Gull. What a great find! I now keep this on weapon switch, and I sit and watch my merc make kills. With Gull, I have around 200 mf (another 27 on the merc). My finds have increased drastically now. Stoutnail, Iratha's Cord, Bladesbone, Greyform, The Dragon Chang, Rixot's Keen, Clegaw's Claw & a Nokozon Relic. I am currently only using the Nokozon Relic, and the rest are available to anyone. I have already used my imbue on a superior maiden spear, which is currently my primary weapon.

I have run most of the bosses in Act 1 about 4 times, Andy only 3 times though. Radament 3 times, which is the only place in Act 2 I have repeated. The best countess run I had netted me 2 Eth, 1 Ith.

I also am dissapointed that there is a time limit on the tourney. Any chance of changing that? This really was a good idea, and it'd be a shame to rush or end prematurely.
 
Ok, I've decided if there remains enough interest in this tourney on Apr 14th when the tournament is supposed to end, I will start up and moderate a new thread where everyone whose char is still alive can migrate to and post about their progress. How does that sound? Think of it as an extension of this tourney...

The idea of <lvl 12 skills is just too good to limit to three weeks. Unless, of course, you drew a Sorcie :-)
 
I was disappointed that the tournment might end before my sorceress would pass and I like the idea that it might continue in a different thread. However, in that the Unravellers in Tal Rasha's tomb are kicking my butt I do not expect to be in it much longer. Trig is level 25 and has a level 21 merc. Between the two I am running out potions. I've kept it at /players5 but it has not been easy. I've found six set items and five uniques. Best so far is a Stormguild Large Shield which has been very useful.
 
and i thought i was doing good with 5 sets and 2 uniques and a super good rare, granted both uniques are very good, bloodfist and gorefoot, and onna the sets is deaths sash, but still, everyone seems to be getting more in quantity :(
 
OK, I just started Iconoclast the Paladin this morning. Cleared the Den of Evil but then had to run to work.

I was pleased at the # of quality skills that the Pally has that are below lvl 12.

Defiance is good, Cleansing is great when combined with the prayer bonus. And Zeal and Smite are two other great skills that actually have viable builds based on them. And Charge is awesome, if not a little heavy on mana.

And while the great skill Fanaticism is not available, I think Might might be an OK substitute b/c of its greater range to mercs and I think it actually adds more party dmg than Fanaticism now, since Fanaticism's party dmg was nerfed in 1.10. In addition, Might gives bonuses to Smite, and I am not sure if Fanaticism does (can someone confirm/deny this?)
 
Burninated continues to kick arse and take names. He just reached level 26 after completing the last leg of the arcane sanctuary. No NDEs as of yet. Not even from the summoner.

Haven't found too much of use lately. Just a few set items (Berserker's Headger, Angelic Halo and Hsarus' Iron heel.) Bringing my total to 3 set items and 1 unique. Can't complain as I've got all of 12% MF. :D

Also, I just gambled a wonderful circlet (http://www.lavieneko.com/elcomm/RuneCirclet.jpg) if anyone is intersted. Should be good for any character, so long as they're at least level 21.

Geez ya know some of us haven't found ONE unique yet (oh sorry - except for that ethereal Torch of Iro from Raka!) - don't worry there are always those worse off than yourself =)

Lord_Lithium is now level 26 and has defeated fatty Duriel who dropped me 4 not very useful rares =) I am however going back in there now to run him 4 more times in the hope he drops me something sexy.

So far I am concentrating on Werebear/Maul and a little lycanthropy teamed with my blessed aim merc. The killing is fast at /players 6 but slows down a little at /players 8. I have made a Steel Runeword Flail and that has definitely increased my killing speed and power - oh for some gloves with IAS!!
 
Haven't come across any sets or uniques here yet either. Babs washed out of the ABC tourney tonight, so I started in on Aeronwy, who is now level 16 and has just rescued Cain. She's done 5 runs of pretty much all areas to this point on /players 8. I figure this will give her a good base to start from. From this point on, I will probably only do 5 runs on the major bosses, and maybe one or two others. I haven't found any green or gold yet, but I have found lots of rares.

She's wearing a rare bow, scepter, shield, gloves, belt, boots and one ring. Her armor and helm are socketed with a total of 5 c. topaz, with 2 more on my merc. Aeronwy has a total of 60 mf, with 78 if the merc makes the kill. Not bad for this early on, so where is my Green and Gold?

I've decided Aeronwy's build is going to be max Multishot, Max Exploding arrow and its synergy, Fire arrow, 10ish in Dodge, Avoid, and Critical Strike, 1 to Inner Sight and Slow Missiles, 1 to Poison Jav for the prereq. and anything left over to lightning bolt, for an PI/FI's late in the game. She's going to have a defiance merc until Act 2 NM, when she will change to a holy freeze merc.
 
I managed to edge Wulfgar up a little last night, as he cleared out the Den of Evil. He is now up to level 7, but hasn't found anything good yet. :surprise:

Don't worry, if he survives long enough, he will eventually get something useful. Great to hear that someone is willing to take this further. I was thinking the same thing myself, and from the responses it looks like this will be a popular option.

Liu powered his way through Act One tonight, reaching level 20.

Mace Mastery, Double Swing, and dual rare flails made quick work of his enemies, even with players 8 active the whole way. I really enjoyed the beatings, since my last couple HC tourney chars were quite "damage-challenged". A few times, I glady charged into the mobs and took some rapid hits down to the 25% life range. I will have to get used to working without a shield (and control my bloodlust).

I plan on maxing Mace Mastery, using Double Swing and Bash. On the weapon switch, I'm thinking about pumping Throw Mastery / Double Throw.
I already gambled a nice shield when the occasion calls for it. It's a rare bone shield with 65% blocking, 17% FHR, +10 life, 13% fire resist, 10% damage to mana, and a socket.

My best find so far is this sweet low-level flail, gambled from Gheed:

35% Enhanced Damage
+2 max damage
+ 13 AR
4% mana leech
Prevent Monster Heal :D
Socketed (2) Hmmm.... what should I use for socketing?.....

My current armor is boring and very common for new characters, non-magical and full of chipped topazes. My level 13 cold rogue's gear is equally uninspiring.

I found two uniques so far, Axe of Fechmar and Serpent Lord Long Staff. Neither are of any use to me. I also found Arctic Binding which is in my stash.
