Single Skill Tree Tourney

The training course of Dona Soledad has begun.

Stage: Go to the Blood Moor then level up to 7. Status: Completed.
Stage: Go to the Stony Fields WP then level up to 14 on Rakanishu. Status: Completed.
Stage: Go to the Catacombs Level 2 WP then level up to 18 on random uniques. Status: Completed.
Stage: Kill Andariel. Status: Completed.
Stage: Go to the Lost City WB then level up to 26 on Dark Elder. Status: In Progress.
Stage: Kill Duriel. Status: To be completed…

Well, if I understand the rules correctly I may complete quests and collect waypoints in any order. So I decided to skip quite a lot of them. I would complete everything if/after I will manage to get Guardian title by some miracle. :) However it brings me to the problem of reporting my progress. What is “Farthest Quest†and “Farthest WPâ€, — the last quest and WP I completed and found in the order or any?

Character Name: Soledad
Character Class: Shadow Disciplines Assassin
Character Level: 20
Farthest Quest: Radament’s Lair
Farthest WP: Lost City
Game Versions: pure 1.11 HC

@Corax: Is Warmth passive and enabled? I would like to play classic enchantress with warmth, enchant, mastery, and lightning tree for static and teleport, telekinesis and already enabled energy shield. Otherwise, I wouldn't join.
I guess you should stay at one tree, this is single tree tournament or what? So, I guess teleport, ES, static and telekinesis are forbidden skills even from items since they are not melee as stated in The Rules.
Of cause it is IMHO, — Corax is the boss.

All sorcs are allowed to sink 1 point into all enchant prereqs. So unless you select the fire tree as your 'primary' then you can't max wamrth.

I should of been more specific.
all WP's and quests have to be completed before moving to the next act.

seeing as you didnt know its fine if you go back and collect all the ones you missed before venturing further on.

As for furthest quest/wp. it is simply the furthest one in game order. for example if you did the hellforge before Izzy your furthest quest would be the Hellforge. same goes for the wps. the further down the list they are the further along they are.

Good morning.

Well, I'm a bit confused right now. There have been so many rule adjustments that I lost track. Especially the sorc rules are not clear to me (I play a pally, so perhaps I don't HAVE to understand these ;) ).

For the other classes, there are fixed skill trees we have to use: only those named in the first post. Exception: Pallies may choose Offensive or Defensive, but after the choice has been made hard points may be put only in the chosen tree. This far it is easy.

Now there are skills granted by objects. These fall in two categories: skills designed for the type of char you are playing and skills available to all. The rule as I understand it says: Everybody may use any skills from objects as long as these skills come from any tree mentioned above, regardless if it is designed for your char or not. I guess an offensive tree paladin must not use defensive skills granted by objects though. Then we have the special case 'melee skills'. Any melee skill is allowed. Now, what exactly is a melee skill? For sure Zeal is, as well as Berserk. What about critical strike (from peace runeword)? What other skills are 'melee'?

Furthermore, we have charges. As far as I understand it, these are treated the same way as other skills granted by objects.

I didn't read anything about ctc stuff yet (maybe I just overlooked that). Is it allowed to use ctc AMP? ctc Valk (again from Peace)? Tornados? Bone spears? Usually the levels of ctc effects are quite low and shouldn't give too much advantages, but there are quite some exceptions either in level or in usefulness like amp.
EDIT: Amp and valk are from allowed trees, so i guess these aren't a problem. Just imagine ctc skills from other trees ;)

As I said before, sorcs and sorc skills I don't understand. Especially not when I think about other classes using sorc skills from objects

@Corax:
Perhaps it's time to repeat the rules once more. I guess after final rules are set a new thread with the rules in the first post would be nice (or can we ask AE to edit the first post with the final rules)

I've allready asked this:

I've seen this question asked, but not answerred:
- Is using bow/javelin allowed (without special skill support, just plain attack/throw)

Finally, my first update:

Forum Name: Randall
Character Name: Nathan
Character Class: Druid Hunter
Character Level: 9
Farthest Quest: Blood Raven
Farthest WP: Stony Field
Game Versions: 1.11 RWM, HC

After arriving to the rogue encampment Nathan set out to the wild world armed with a club only. Allthough he went out alone it did not took long before he got company of some friendly animals living right outside the rogue encampment.

Right now he has a rougue, a vine, a spirit, a raven and 4 wolves helping out.

My assassin just entered the arcane sanctuary, look how cool the arcane sanctuary looks with cloak of shadows!

arcane sanctuary printscreen

And it looks even cooler in the game when the stars (or whatever they are) are moving.

Forum Name: asdfgah
Character Name: asdf_Lisa
Character Class: shadow assassin
Character Level: 24
Farthest Quest: viper amulet
Farthest WP: Arcane sanctuary
Game Versions: 1.11 RWM, HC

I haven't even found a single set or unique item yet so atm I'm using a rare blade talon and a rare claw, stealth and nadir.

Small update:

Character Names: Isolde (& Mark)
Character Class: Fire Rogue (assisted by curses-only necro)
Character Levels: Isolde: 16; Mark: 18
Farthest Quest: Tools of the Trade
Farthest WP: Jail level 1
Game Version: 'vanilla' 1.10 HC
Total MF: +139% for Isolde´s kills, +94% otherwise

Mark has had a rough time during in the latest areas, especially Barracks. Monsters are starting to actually hit him. He uses up as good as all minor healing potions he finds. It will get better in act 2 once I get a decent shield for him.

Mark has 1 point in all available curses, except for Dim Vision where he has 10. I have tried out Confuse a few times. Looks to be useful. Can any necro gurus out there answer these questions:

1. Confuse and Attract. Which of them do you prefer in which situations and why? How long duration do I need for it to be user friendly (I know about the penalties in NM/Hell, so just mention the actual duration that´s required)?

2. Regarding Confuse. Do we get experience for
* Confused monsters that we kill?
* Non-Confused monster that Confused monsters kill?
* Confused monsters that non-Confused monsters kill?

3. Do we get experience if monsters kill an Attracted monster?

Isolde: "Do I have to wear this yellow skull cap. It´s ugly!"
Mark: "Brace yourself, dear. Later on, you will probably appreciate that we have worn these stupid yellow outfits. Once cool unique bows start to drop, I mean."

jiansonz (thinking): 'Ha! If she thinks that´s ugly, just wait until act 5...'

Attract can not be overridden, I'm not sure how to use this for a mojo mancer but I can explain a situation a skellymancer or party friendly solution.

situation.
One necromancer, a few friendly physical damage dealers.
This group is approaching a group of unfriendly archers.

you can blind them, but that doesn't help the party other than the free run to the archers.

Another way would be to attract one (or 2) archers at the back and Amp the of the pack (attract stays on the 1 or 2 archers even if you Amp them, Amp does not get effective). The group is still distracted but the "friendly physical damage dealers" have the advantage of Amp as well.

My understanding from reading all this is that a bow or javelin can be used as weapon - You are just not allowed to have ANY points in the skill tree not even by item..

This only says we can't use sorc skills directly. It says nothing about ctc for example. I GUESS it applies to charges though. There aren't many sorc skills directly available to other classes anyways (EDIT: Enigma ... but that one is out of reach for this tourney ;) ).

More of a problem is that often objects have more than one skill. And these often are from different trees. Again I guess objects can't be used if they contain (among other, usable skills) one that is passive and from forbidden trees. If there is an 'active' skill (meaning you have to explicitely use it by left or right mouse clicks), the item should be ok as long as you don't use this skill.

Found my first unique/set item minutes before finishing for the night. A unique ring. Nagelsomething or other has some decent magic find, but little else really as I recall. This being my first HC char, I beefed up on the vitality early on and now cannot wear the newest katars 've gambled for. lol Nothing level 23 won't take care of though.

That's what I read (hoping for) as well ;)
I like to see confirmation of Corax though.

And if that's true, I presume that exclude bows with fire explosion / magic arrows as "automod" (as it's using a illegal skill) ?

I think they are OK, since they aren´t skills.

bow/throwing weapons are fine as long as you dont use any skills.
Explosive/magic arrows are like a 100% CTC so are allowed.

you can't use an item if it provides +skills to a particular restricted passive skill. its fine if it has +to 'castable' restricted skills as long as you dont use them.

sorry for lack of confirmation Randall, guess i must of missed it.

Oh, well, excuse my laziness. I’ll clean my progress today upon getting back to my home after work. Need to find pointless Malus and collect Jail and Dark Wood’s waypoints, — good way to hunt for Gem Shrines and some charms.

@corax: No problem, it was well hidden. But for me wanting to play a hunter druid it is kind of vital information so I was looking for it.

Looks like there are a lot of people making good progress. For those who made it past Duriel, congratulations. For me that is the first real test of a HC character.

Randall

EDIT:
@Warrior of Light: The malus in not pointless for untwinked. It gives a nice extra chance for a good rare.
