Re-rolling /w chippies and Qlvl's

So I'm trying to roll the most uber claw ever, a +2 assassin/40% IAS (/w +3 LS as a staff mod).

The claw I'm rolling is a Greater Talon, originally ilvl 99 (i dont' think that matters) shopped from Anya

So:
1) Can I roll +2 assy skills on it?
2) Can I roll "of swiftness/quickness" on it?
3) Can I get +3 LS on it?

Thanks,

crg

I believe the Quickness mod and +3 LS would be available but don't know about the +2 Sassy mod. When I did my experiment with chippies a while back the best mods I saw were only ilvl 25 or less. I did about a hundred re-rolls on a Phase Blade though.

For a chance at Witch-Hunter´s, you need a higher qlvl claw, at least Feral Claws.

For ilvl 25 claws, the most common staffmods are the level 18 skills. Level 24 skills are possible (20% chance for each staffmod you get).

And assuming that...

I wanted a +3 to Traps, +3 to LS and Quickness? Is it possible? With a decently fast claw? Or I should keep trying to shop one of those from Anya? :P Don't know which one is higher, if it's the +2 to all Assy or the +3 to Traps...

I suck at D2 mechanics. In truth, the only game I knew mechanics well was Pokemon G/S/C and Final Fantasy Tactics :p

If you must use an elite claw, then use Runic Talons (-30 WSM) instead of Feral Claws (-20 WSM). Unfortunately both require significantly more stat points to wield than Greater Talons.

+3 Traps is higher (affix level 60). Only Runic Talons and Scissors Suwayyah can get it if you reroll with the chipped/regular/flawless gems recipes.

I just checked the arreat summit, and Of Quickness says it's available on melee weapons with ilvl 46 or higher, and Witch-hunter's is available on katars (generally) with ilvl 50 or higher. Greater talons are qlvl 45, so too low (because qlvl=ilvl for these purposes). Runics are qlvl 81, and thus could land both.

Thanks all.

Actually the lvl from Arreat Data is affix level which is influenced by ilvl, but they are not equal. We need affix level 50, so it means we need an item with ilvl (or if ilvl<qlvl then illvl=qlvl) at least 75. For cunning affix (alvl=60) you need ilvl at least 80.

So, if my runic i'm cubing becomes ilvl 25, but has a qlvl of 81, the effective ilvl becomes 81, thus being able to land all of the following Cunning, Witch-Hunter's and Quickness (obviously I can't get two prefixes on a magic item). If yes, then I will be able to roll my claw.

So you're saying that on the Arreat Summit's page, the numbers listed for certain prefixes/sufixes are for alvl? How does ilvl relate to alvl? (i.e. how do you go from alvl 50 to ilvl 75 req'd? It is just simply adding 1/3 of the alvl to itself?)

Thanks for the help.

No, it's quite complicated. I suggest reading the appropriate section in Item drop tutorial in Statistics forum. I am too lazy to write down the formula ;)

OK, so I'm reading the item generation tutorial (VERY informative, but i skipped lots of stuff that looked technical).

Here's the alvl forumla (C/P)

If (ilvl>99) then {ilvl=99}
if (qlvl>ilvl) then {ilvl=qlvl} ;** see note below
if (magic_lvl>0) then {alvl=ilvl+magic_lvl}
else
{
if (ilvl<(99-qlvl/2))
then {alvl=ilvl-qlvl/2}
else {alvl=2*ilvl-99}
}
If (alvl>99) then {alvl=99}

Given:
qlvl=81
ilvl=25
alvl=?
Since 81>25, then ilvl=qlvl, therefore qlvl=81, ilvl=81,
then alvl=2*81-99=162-99=63
Therefore, the alvl for my rolled runic talons is 63, which then of course I can get the prefixes/suffixes I desire (assuming the numbers listed with the prefixes/suffixes are for alvls).

Am I right?

Yes, you are right.
For future reference, this calculator is excellent. Enter the item type, input ilvl (25 in the case of chippie rerolling) and 'monster drop magic item' and you will see what the resulting alvl will be (and a list of all possible affixes, including the odds).

Wow, that calc rocks. It told me that my witch-hunter's of quickness appears only on 1/32129 rolls, and that with-hunter's appears only 1/320. I have rolled about 600 chips so far (200 rolls), so I guess I have lots more to do.

You also have to multiply by the chance to get +3 LS as a staff mod. :teeth:

I just keep rolling as chipped gems drop. I keep a blue Runic Talon with my quest character (currently a bonemancer in Act2 NM) and do a re-roll whenever I accumulate 3 chippies (much more often in Normal of course). Haven't managed that wondrous +3 traps, +3 LS, 2-socket one yet (if I did, I'd faint) but I got a 295%ED Cruel with 2 open sockets (and IAS IIRC) once. :)
