quick q - Where exactly are the pits?

When people refer to "the pits" they're talking about very high level areas early on in Hell difficulty. The most commonly run "pits" are:
The Pit, located in the Tamoe Highlands
The Mausoleum, located in the Burial Grounds by Blood Raven
The Ancient Tunnels, located (I believe) in the Lost City
There are many others but these are the popular three. Basically, if you're a Cold Sorc you want to run either Mausoleum or Ancient Tunnels... if you're anything else, run the Pit levels 1 and 2. The attraction is that because of the high level of the area and monsters, anything can drop and the experience is good too. Although some of the baddies can take you out rather quickly with the right combination of mods/auras, especially the Archers in the Pit.

Take the outer cloister and follow the path. It leads right to the pit. While most pit runs come up empty, the chance of high level items dropping are better than average due to the areal level and concentration of monsters there. Lots of champions and unique bosses there.Wolfedude said:

The pits are where you go after a 3-5 day bad streak of character deaths! It is the pits when 1 day you hve 8 high lvl HC builds and a couple days later you have like 1 or 2 or worse!

Thanks...and lol, all day yesterday i read people talking about 'ancient tunnels', so I went home and did some runs through the Ancients Way in NM. Whoops.
So are most of the random dungeons like these in hell good places to run? Or are these three singled out b/c they're the highest-lvl item-dropping areas in the first few acts of hell?
Here's a little trick, assuming you don't use maphack... if you do, ignore me.
Before you go to the Outer Cloister waypoint, pop out the Black Marsh waypoint, just to put it on your map. When you get to where the road splits in the Tamoe Highland, move the map to find the Black Marsh, and take the road that heads away from it.
