Quick Crushing Blow Question...

Haven't really seen anything on this, but the answer to this will probably influence if I go along with my next build idea or not...

Ok, with Static Field, when you use it, after the monster hits ~half health, the effect of it stops working.

Does the same happen for CB? Is there any point where it'll stop removing the 1/4 health, or will it work all the way down until the monster is dead?

Thanks.

Re: Quick Crushing Blow Question...

It keeps working, but it only removes a portion of their current life. So if they have 10 hitpoints left your CB will only remove 1/8th or 1/16th (or whatever CB does) of those 10 hitpoints - it won't remove 1/8th or 1/16th of their maximum life.

Also, unlike Static Field, CB doesn't scale with more /players in the game. So CB helps more in /players1 games, and less in /players8 games.

Re: Quick Crushing Blow Question...

I knew it would be a portion, just wasn't sure if it kept working. (Like I said, static stops working to at a point)

Thanks for the fast answer though.

One other thing if you want to answer, I've seen sources say CB can reach 100% (Or over, which of course is useless), and other sources say it tops out at 95%. Any idea which is correct?

Re: Quick Crushing Blow Question...

I'm pretty sure there's no 95% cap. 100% CB = 100% CB.

Re: Quick Crushing Blow Question...

The 95% cap is because you can only reach a 95% chance to hit things. So, even if you cause crushing blow each hit, you'll only hit 95% of the time. I guess smite (and ITD?) get the benefit of that extra 5% :D.

The 95% cap is because you can only reach a 95% chance to hit things.
This is faulty reasoning though, because some monsters can also block. You should just see CB as an 'on striking effect'.

I wrote a lot about crushing blow here

Whether it's more effective in higher player settings is arguable, since all of your weapon deals a smaller portion of damage, and CB scales down less with higher player settings.

To illustrate (assuming we deal no additional damage):

100 000 HP monster, players 1
First hit: 25 000 damage
75 000 HP
Second hit: 18 750 damage
56 250 HP
Third hit: 14600 damage
~41 500 HP left
Total damage: roughly 59 000

Same monster at players 3
200 000 HP
First hit: 0.25 * 0.5 * 200 000 = 25 000
175 000 HP left
Second hit: 0.25 * 0.5 * 175 000 = 21 875
153 000 HP left
Third hit: 0.25 * 0.5 * 153 000 = 19 225
134 000 HP left
Total damage: roughly 66 000

So while we deal less percentual damage, we deal more net damage, since we have more to take off. If we add further hits, you'll see that the damage CB does at players 3 racks up compared to players 1, where it is highly ineffective after 75k damage is left, but still quite potent at players 3.

Excellent point stephan, and a good example of why everything should be viewed within it's personal constraints.

Very well said. CB deals even more damages @ higher setting.

I think NF once gave an other very good statement. (not the original word), it says something about getting CB on top of damage, it gives you the extra mile. And I fully agree with NF that I just couldn't understand why people dislike CB because it doesn't goes up with player setting. Apart from SF, nothing you deal goes up with player setting (your 2k fireball doesn't do 4k damage just because you play @ P3).
