Question: Conviction vs. Conviction

When a Paladin running Conviction meets a boss with Conviction, what happens?

The two times this has happened to me,
the first time it affected both my merc and myself, (low lvl, vs Normal Bremm Sparkfist)
the 2nd time, the enemy Conviction affected my merc but it didn't affect me (lvl 20, vs Nightmare Griswold)

In both cases I couldn't tell if my Conviction affected the boss or the monsters around (I killed all the minions/surrounding monsters before luring the boss to cleared area).

1. Does Conviction follow a "higher lvl wins" rule, and if so, what's going on in the second situation?
2. Does my Conviction affect the boss and/or monsters near the boss?
3. Any and all additional interesting mechanics information please. =p

Re: Question: Conviction vs. Conviction

Highest skill level wins, but if your conviction level is higher it only "wins" for you (i.e. not your merc or minions or party-mates - those get affected by the boss' aura like normal).

Re: Question: Conviction vs. Conviction

That's right, monster's Conviction level is 1/8 of their monster level, so it basically goes from 8 to 11 in Hell. If you're Conviction is higher than that you have nothing to fear from them (your merc is another matter, as poops said).

Arreat Summit says that's Conviction lvl is mlvl/4 but sometimes they are wrong...

Re: Question: Conviction vs. Conviction

Thanks for the replies. I think I get it now. =)

For my second question, I guess I'll assume my Conviction affects everyone but the boss when the my skill lvl loses, and everyone including the boss when it wins. I hope that's correct.

Wait, that means that Infinity carried by a merc will "protect" the merc from an enemy's conviction aura, whereas the character receives the full resistance drop? That's interesting...I never knew that (probably due to the lack of Infinities in my stashes :D)

If the monster aura level is correct, the above should be true.

I found something strange last night. I was questing my throw bar in hell A1, a mlvl 86 boss with conviction aura, I checked how far my resistant dropped, I was surprised to find resistant drop was 76%. that doesn't make any sense. lvl10 conviction should drop 75% (which is the correct lvl here). It's not like the extra 1% makes any difference, but rather strange since the number doesn't add up.

@cyenth, I think that's correct.

@DeathMaster, my guess is it's (yet another) bug in the LCS.
