PvP Foh/Smiter question - Which smite aura?

PvP Foh/Smiter question - Which smite aura?

Im planing to make a Vindicator with the pressure on FoH, mainly/only for PvP. My question is which aura can I use for smiting? I guess I will have Grief and HoZ on switch for smiting, but what aura can I have on?:scratch:

Any gear suggestions? I was thinking about:

Shako
Enigma
HoTo / Greif
Spirit / Up'd HoZ
Arach or T-Gods
Maras
Wisp Projector or 2xBK's

Dont know what boots or gloves to use:undecided:

Skills:

Max FoH
Max Holy Shock
Max Holy Sheild
Convicition - Enough to reach lvl 25
Rest in smite

I would try and find a 5 socketed foh stick with +3 foh and +3 conviction, and get some lite facets in there. Also, ull be lacking resistances with that setup, so I suggest u ditch the nigma for a coh and instead of teleporting around just use charge.

Fanac would be the aura of choice. You'd have to sacrifice FoH damage, but it's worth it for the better smite damage and speed.

You'll want a ravenfrost in there as well for cbf, especially if you decide on coh over engima. You've got 9pcombats and torch, right? Try get an anni too.

I wouldn't use hoto, use greif all the time so you can smite/charge, weapon switching is too slow. Um and up your hoz. For boots, rares with frw, fhr/stats & lit/fire res are the best. Its hard to find legit one's though. Otherwise trek's or water walks with high life are good.
For gloves, bloodfist are nice and cheap. Rares or crafted with stats/res/ias are excellent. You'll want some gloves with ias if your greif is a zerk.

Like what Jackson said, use Fanat. Try getting it to at least lvl 27 after skills for the max ias benefit, better yet max it out. This may mean less holy shield pts. Fanat with smite is better than H shield & smite. 1 pt H shield means you lose some def, but def is overrated imo. You'll still have max block.

My own (retired) t/v looks like this. I'm not claiming its ideal, but i killed a lot of pubs with it. Oh yeah, it was expensive (probably why I had some success with it :/ )
Max FoH
Max H Shock
12 Conviction (25 after +skills)
Max Fanat
1 H Shield
Pre-req's
Rest into smite (smite gives more dmg when using greif than H shield, this only applies when smiting with greif)
No defence auras

Gear :
Coa 2soc - Ber ias/res rewel
Enigma mage plate (only use an armor you can equip w/o adding pts to str, ie not archon)
Mara
HoZ - Upp'd with Um (ber'd one in stash also)
Waterwalk 65 life
Raven
BK
Dungo
Grief zerk - 30/398 - for range over a pb
rare gloves w/ 20ias 13 str fire/lit res
anni/torch
cta/spirit switch (i don't like prebuff or weapon switch during duels)
9 pcombats some w/ life/stats.

Stash
Crutch gear like
Cold/lit 200+res shields
T-god's
wisp (only used v's fc hack zon's)
Offensive gc's for lifting my conv lvl
exile (never used it tho)
kira - thul (i used this and my 200 cold res shield to hunt down aa bliz sorcs, I also need to add 1 pt to salvation on a rebuild for those sorcs)

Item's i'd add to my stash for a rebuild
Griff's
Doom zerk - my smite would then suck, but the +2 skills and freeze aura would be worth trying if you find you are constantly getting caught by a charging pally.
Bloodfist gloves - this and t-gods would be a solid set up v's trappers who mb a lot

Stats
I messed this up when building my t/v because I had skillers w/ str and then wanted switch them out for lifers.
Str - enough to wear CoA with gear on
Dex - for max block
vit - everythingelse
Energy - none (use pots, everyone else is)

I get 5.2k foh dmg and a solid smite that works well against all, but pure smiters and barbs. But foh softens these up before smite becomes an issue. I have 3.7k life. I also have max res after the anya bug with my um'd hoz and 49dr with my ber'd hoz.

I highly recommend using charge, not tele, for movement since you can keep your conv aura 'locked' on your opponent. My t/v doesn't have any fcr, so my tele would be very slow anyway. CoA might not be the best for this build, but on my t/v it fills in some big gaps like dr, res, and ias (from jewel).If you had triple res boots, then shako/ias glove combo might be better If you can't afford coa, shako is still good. Just keep one with um in it and one with ber.

I hope some of this helps.

mythos: Yeah, that helped alot, and I my self think that weapond switch is too slow when dueling (Or is is just me that is slow? :/). 5,2k foh dmg with no weapond is sick IMO! Good tips, thanks.

But, one question, since you dont switch weapond, you have to switch between Convic and Fana, Foh and Smite? Dosent that take longer than a weapond switch? :undecided: And charge for fast moving:shocked:

I was thinking abut:

HOTO / HoZ (or Spirit, well see) with Convic aura or tele.

On switch, Greif / Up'd HoZ with Fanat. How come that is slower than switching between 5 different spells?:scratch:

I dont have any items, is my big project for the next season:wave:

You do not need fcr with v/t build, you only foh...ditch the spirit, you need up'd hoz ber'd or um'd for dr/resists...

CTA in a war scepter with foh/convic/holyshield (this would be expensive cta to make) and a pally spirit or hoz of your choice.

One with holy shield would be even pricier.

if you can arrange your hotkeys just right, it should take less than half a second to switch skills. That way, you won't need the 500 soj prebuff stick.

There are a few things you HAVE TO HAVE for this build and 9 pcombats is one of them. They go a long way to getting viable foh dmg, plus they add to H shield & hence smite dmg. Getting a fancy cta with foh/conv will be a pain and very expensive and once you're done with it you'll probably have a hard time trading it for what you paid for it. Plus if it rolls a low bo you gotta clean it out and roll it again, and again..... Buying one with 6bo, well THATS gunna cost ya!!

One of the reasons i don't like the weapon switch set-up that you're proposing is that pre-buffing bo gets annoying real fast. I like to recast bo after each duel. Another reason is that by having greif in your hand at all times you can really use your charge to its full potential. If you see an opening to charge you can expoilt it without having to worry about whether you're holding your hoto (normally made in a flail which will do crappy dmg). Charge is not just a form of movement, but an option for dealing dmg. Charge is a great way to turn defence (moving rapidly w/o being hit) into offence.

As jackson said, your hotkey set up is the key here.
If you're using the F1-12 keys for hotkeys then you're doing it wrong.

I use

A = foh
S = convic
D = smite
F = fanat
E = charge
Space = tele (but i rarely tele with this char)
doen't matter where prebuffs go. also having H freeze handy is good for slowing smiters down who you won't be able to go toe to toe with.

My fingers constantly sit on shift, a, s, d with thumb on space.
I can change from foh/ convic to charge/smite/fanat very quickly, much faster than weapon switch.

Ultimately, when you've built your t/v you can try both set ups. But don't use spirit, use hoz. its by far superior for this build. On the foh, the +2all +2combat skills > spirit. FCR is not needed on this build. So Hoz all the way. On the smite side use up'd hoz for extra dmg.

Don't take what I'm saying as gospel. read as much info as you can on t/v's and compare different peoples approache to this build. You need to find a mix of gear and skills that will suit your playing style. Then once you're ready to go, hit the dueling games and PRACTICE, PRACTICE PRACTICE. Its the only way to get better.

Good luck and have fun. t/v's are good fun.
