Pronunciations

Hey, how do "ya'll" pronounce my name? I've heard all sorts of variations.
krem-tock, like the first part of Kremlin and the last part of tick-tock

now if I could just get Americans to pronounce my real name correctly...

and if i could get people to spell my name lower case when they refer to me.

i pronounce kremtok's name same as hbeachbabe.

lenymo- layn-mo. i just move the n and jumble it togehter.
amn- am. the n is like a silent q. doesn't actually exist.

Occy= Ã…cky
Tir= Tiir
Sol= Sool
BotD= I say Breath of the Dying :)
Hoto= same here, I say the full word
CoH= same
Lenymo= Lennymo

Kremtok: Is there more than one pronounciation? I say the "e" short, as in "egg", and the "o" short too, like in "on".

if you say both the same, then how do you tell us apart?

@krem. it's Désirée, which in American, gets rendered Dez'-er-ay. It's supposed to be Deh-see-reh' like Napolean's love & future Queen of Sweden

Occy = Ocky (like rocky!) - what's up with 'ossy'? That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard :D .
Tir = Tiir
Sol = Sol (short o and l sounds)
BotD = B-O-T-D
HotO = Say the full thing
CoH = Say the full thing
Lenymo = Lenny-mow
Horogath (spelling?) = Ha-rog-eth

Interesting discussion we have going on here, yea? This is fun to me~~

Occy: Orh-see
Tir: tee-rr
Eth: EE-tee-edge
Ist: IS-st (east, yeast)
Gul: same as gull
Pul: same as pull
Ber: From the first syllable of "Berlin"
Zod: Zor-rd
BotD: bee-OH-tee-dee
Akaran Rondache: AH-kar-an ron-datch
Ataghan: ah-TA-gun
Caduceus: don't even try. :teeth:

I think the most hardest to pronounce are the paladin shields... They sure can get real weird. As well as Shillelagh(elite staff), and Suwayyahs.. They are just pure hard to pronounce! Well, i sure had alot of fun writing up that list, though.

sheh-lay-lee. it's an irish staff/club

I always pronounced it suh-why-ah, although I can find no reference to any such weapon outside of Diablo, although it may be the name of a city in Syria

edit: also can't find anything re: quhab and katar, except for Middle East locations, Quhab being a city in Qatar (alternately written in English as Katar)

The other day, I was sitting around in class, and was just thinking why I pronounce Occy, Ossy. And then I thought about how there are people from around the world at the SPFs and started wonderinf how they pronounce some of the D2 things.

Here are a few of my pronunciations:

Occy= ah-see
Tir= teer
Sol= sohl(I think that's correct. I say the 'O')
BotD= bee-oh-tee-dee
Hoto= ho-toh
CoH= see-oh-'h'
Lenymo= le-nee-moe
psynergy= sih-ner-gee

Those are all I can think of at the moment. How do you all pronounce this?

ahh-see
tear
soul
breath of the dying
heart of oak
chains of honor (yes when I see the abr. I just use the whole word) (old mind trick)
lenny-mo (ok I am a bit lesdexic :surprize:)
si-ger-knee

man my pronouncing of this game is weird.

What about the Stone of Jordan for the Spanish speaking people?

Do you pronounce Jordan as y(or possibly ll)ordan, or like it's pronounced in Spanish?

I'm only in Spanish I, I don't know all of the sounds very well.

El = El (Much like the spanish El)
Eld = El-duh
Tir = Tear (As in you're crying and tears are running down your face)
Nef = Nehf
Eth = Uhm... Eth?
Ith = Same as it looks
Tal = Tall(As in height)
Ral = Rall (Same 'all' sound as Tal)
Ort = Or-tuh
Thul = Thool
Amn = Am-nuh
Sol = Soul
Shael = Shay-el
Dol = Doll
Hel = Hell
Io = Eye-oh
Lum = Loom
Ko = Koh
Fal = Fahl
Lem = Lehm
Pul = Pull
Um = Oom
Mal = Mahl
Ist = ...Ist?
Gul = Goul
Vex = Vex
Ohm = Ohm
Lo = Low
Sur = Sure -e. Same sound the sur makes in sure.
Ber = Bear
Jah = Jah
Cham = Cham
Zod = Zod (General Zod :P)

That's how I say all the runes. Screw the rest of the items. I dun really care. :P

How about Bone Visage

Bone Visaasj

Its even more difficult to explain how you pronounce words than it is to pronounce them.

I don´t pronounce the abbreviations, as I very rarely use them. When I read, in my mind they show up as their full name.

Otherwise:
Tir: tiir
Sol, Dol: sool, dool
Lenymo: le-ny-mo (short vowels everywhere)
Baal: bail (like Anya says it)
Fal: faal (like HBB says it)
Kremtok: kreem-took (long vowels both places. Weird name...)
Amn: amn (exactly as in "namn" (swedish for "name"))
Zod: sodd (same "o"-sound as in "locked"; where on earth did that "r" come from, falcon4eva?)
Gul, Pul: guul, puul (this really long "u" doesn´t exist in english)

...future Queen of Sweden

Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée Bernadotte
(family name is of french origin)

Finally, I pronounce Désirée the same as HBB, or like frenchman would. :D
(the name means "the desired")

Here are a few pronunciations that I use from other places other than D2. Mainly Nintendo games.

Zelda:
Deku- Dé kue
Hyrule- High rule
Hylian- Heal lee in
Korkiri- Core keer ree
goron- gore ohn
Biggoron- big gore ohn
Majora- mah jore ah
Gannon- gan none
Gannondorf- gan none dwarf
Saria- Ser(as in the Spanish verb) ee ah
Zora- Zore a

Mario:
Mario- Ma ree oh
Bowser- bow zer
Goomba- goom bah
Paratrooper- pear a troop er

In general:
Guillotine- gee(soft "g") oh teen

data- day tah

A few more D2 ones:
Fal- like it's spelled
Gul- gull
Ber- ber
Sur- sure
Buriza-Do Kyanon- Berr ee za doe key an on

Ees Krim-toh-k, vis bad Russian accent.

:lol:

Caduceus is a fairly uncommon English word for something that has to do with medicine (some symbolic item I believe). My understanding is that it's pronounced "Kuh-do-shuss".

Quhab: Koo-hab
Zwiehander :D : svii-hahn-der
Eye of Etlich: I uv eht-lick (I say "Lick Wand" as well...)
Sur: Soor (almost like "sewer" but really with no 'w')
Jah: Hah (seriously...)

I can't think of any others right now.

edit:what a right of passage! I am now an "eet" member of this forum. :teeth:
