poor mans frenzy

I read all the treads about should i choose etherial death, last wish, .... which is way out of my reach.

I'm level 72 and have planned to put the remaining skill points up to level 85 in one mastery to max it.

But before doing it i would like to know about the potential of my weapons.

I have to gimmershreds. On the paper i think they look good due to the high elemental damage, but they dont really do so well in-game. Any good reason for that ?
I thought maybe the monsters in hell have high elemental resists ?
Will this change significantly if mastery ismaxed

I also have a flamebellew and light sabre unique swords. But need to spend many dex and stength points before they are available to me.
Would they be able to carry me through hell if mastery is maxed ?

It doesn't have to be extremely uber fast, as i still enjoy playing through all the quests. But taking 2-3 minutes to kill a standard mob of 5-6 monster take away my patience in the long run. And i'm only in act two, Hell.

Thanks for any help.

Dual Lightsabres, Azurewrathes or Doombringers is the cheapest you can do. All of those can be gotten for PGems and they're at least effective enough to run Countess and the Pit, which are good places to build up wealth.

I'd give you the Doombringers for free, but you're Europe instead of USEast.

Glimmersheds are usually only used to kill physical immunes. Against non-PIs, they're still ok.. but not so effective, since monsters can have high elemental resist.

Pumping a mastery will only benefit the "physical" damage of your attacks. The majority of Glimmershed's damage is elemental, so no benefits there..

Lightsabers aren't bad.. but if you've already invested into axe mastery, I wouldn't recommend you switch now.

Axe-mastery is good, but might be needing some better weapons, that's all.

Good axes I can think of off the top of my head are (not restricted to):
-Butcher's Pupil (Upgraded to elite if you can)
-Death Cleaver
-Razor's Edge
-Rune Master: socket to increase damage, speed, whatever you'd like
-Cranebeak: only if you don't have anything else to use..

Most of these items are fairly cheap (pgems or even as freebies), with the exception of the Death Cleaver. They should make decent end-game weapons.

--You can find the stats of those items here:

--You can find the upgrading recipe here (note the requirements, etc):

Hope this helps you. =b

Thanks for info.

Very good point about mastery only affecting physical damage, i didn't think of that myself

I haven't spend any points in masteries yet, and i wanted to ask before doing so. So mastery is still an open option...

And I have one pul rune, which i could as well spend on upgrading a weapon
since I dont have other runes to make the good runewords anyway....

Thanks again.

Personally, I'd save that Pul for an Oath RW. IIRC all you'd need is a Mal, Shael, and Lum. You can get all those runes from Hell Countess. I recently made an Oath myself, and it rocks! GL

What sword or axe is best for oath ?
And arent they usually pretty expensive themselves ?

I tend towards swords because they look cooler, but that's of course of minor importance.

The best weapon depends on your needs. If you need a fast weapon on your right hand (above the gloves) to help reach your BP's, then I'd suggest an eth BA.

I wanted to do mine in an eth Conquest sword on the left to go with my Grief PB on the right. I couldn't find anyone that had one laying around for trade. So, I dug through my stashes, and found a decent eth Highland Blade, took it to Larzuk, and he punched 4 holes in it for me.

Keep in mind that if you go with a eth Conquest sword on the right hand, you'll need an extra 10% IAS just to reach 5.5 fpa, IIRC. Also, if you can just find an eth version (or superior would be even better), Larzuk will punch four nice holes for you. (4 holes is max in a Conquest sword)

Edit: And, take off all your MF gear to find eth/socketed stuff. I heard it's best to herd some cattle for that stuff.

OK, thanks

I'm not quite sure what my needs are.
All the breakpoint stuff I'm still not so confindent in and I might consider it after i have my weapons and runes...

But time to hunt the cows with my summon nec to see what i can get :wink3:

I made Oath in an Eth champion sword base speed -10, its fast and decent damage, balrog is also a choice, more damage but a bit slower at base speed 0. Both of these swords get 4 sockets from larzuk so you just need to keep an eye out for a plain eth one on the ground.

I started my frenzy barb with dual bloodletters that I had laying around, then eventually found an um and made a crescent moon champ sword, then later found an eth champ sword and traded for the runes to make oath. Now he uses EbotdCB and EdeathCS (trying to get EDeathCB but they seem to be rare as rocking horse ****, everyone takes the easy option since CS gets 5 sockets). Those last swords will be well out of reach now, but keep playing, run the pits, trade the stuff you find and soon you will have the resources to buy whatever you need.

Whatever you choose there will be budget options available, you don't have to have the uber dupewords to be effective, I would go with the uniques that others suggested earlier and work your way towards the runewords as you build wealth.

doombringers are too slow, and they weaken you as much as they weaken the opponent!

oath + crescent moon seems like a solid budget set and work in both swords and axes giving you some flexibility depending which is available

I'm also a big fan of lightsabre and azurewrath

I agree that Doombringers are slow, but they're incredibly cheap and give a nice boost to life in the meantime.

So for the runewords i ideally need elite items with the appropriate number of sockets and with a weapon speed modifier of -30 ?

I read somewhere, that only the attack speed of the first equipped weapon is used to calculate the frenzy attack speed. So i can equip the slow one second to avoid this concern ?

I have flamebellow (some friendly person gave me), is it completely useless ?
I can see that maybe it has low min damage compared to doombringer, and its slow. But as a second hand weapon....anyway i can give it a try untill others are available....

Damn I really dont know how all these number work together.
OK, this will require to much explanation.
But at least i got some guidelines...thanks y'all

Main hand, frenzy skill checks base weapon speed and ias
Off hand, frenzy skill checks base weapon speed only
Off weapon, frenzy skill checks ias

So what this all means is, if you use a weapon that has a fast base weapon speed, but no ias (like Doombringers champion sword) you suffer NO speed penalty, if you equip it in off hand.
Other examples are edeathz, LastWishz, Fortitude champion sword, Lawbringer pb etc etc.

Ethereal small cresent oaths are reallly good.

Also, if you wanted to go into mace mastery, you'll be looking at cheap choices like stonecrusher/schaefers/baraners, etc. Stonecrusher and schaefers are really decent when sheal'd.

I tried that flamebellow, I just noticed it did some fire stuff but did not notice that it intereupted my frenzy...

OK, many options...
but to me oath is not so cheap, i have one Pul as the highest rune...but i will search for more...

Thanks for all replies.

Any combination of Schaefers and Stormlash would be very good.

Stormlash might be harder to get, so dual schaefers would be a powerful combo against mobs, bosses, etc.
