Personal Rules

I was just wondering what personal rules or limitations people use when playing. Mine are:
1) only advance to NM and Hell difficulty when I have activated all waypoints, completed all quests and received all quest rewards in the previous difficulty level
2) only wear set items if I am using/planning to use the full set

I also have one char that only uses gear found by one of my chars (no trade or giveaway items)

The only rule I have is to complete every single quest on all difficulties, no matter how useless the reward is. I also collect all waypoints except Halls of Pain on hell difficulty :)

edit: and yeah, that doesn't mean I cheat

Any sort of hack or cheat is out of the question for me.
My only strict personal rule is never leave a corpse, no matter how beautiful. This usually means that, at 30 minutes before I plan to go to bed, my WW barb will go through a WSK unqiue fetish pack and be Maidened half-way through by some arrogant oblivion knight barely out of my LOS. Those are the nights when I put on a pot of coffee simply because I'll be up for another 2 hours collecting my dozen corpses. And I don't drink coffee. :D

1. I don't cheat.
2. Collect most waypoints. Exceptions are: Halls of dead(cube quest) nm and hell and all Halls of pain waypoints.
3. Do all quests before the next Act.
3. No mods (tried once and found some uber gear I can't use now)

1. Complete all quests before moving to next difficulty.
2. No hacks or cheats
3. Full clears as much and often as possible.

1) No hacks, cheats, etc. This includes bug exploitation (like the Marrowalk bug) and bugs later made into "features" (hammerdins).
2) No rushes.
3) No ugly or inappropriate gear on my character, no matter how juicy the mods. This means no Masks on anybody, no Scythes on anybody but necros, no Bone Helms or Bone Shields on pallies, etc. I have to look at my character to play it, and if they look ridiculous, that factor alone makes them less fun. :)

Mine are:

- No hacks
- No cheats
- Live for the grail (my own personal one...all uniques, sets, runes on SC and HC, + l99 chars on SC and HC, and thinking of doing also an ethereal Grail, hehe)
- no trading, only self found items

Majorly unattractive. Unless on a Necro...fits the whole theme in my book!
Agreed. They look really good on necros, and they're acceptable on barbs on assassins. Absolutely terrible on zons. But they're even worse than masks for pallies in my opinion, since I doubt holy knights want to run around looking so evil. :D

(No commentary on sorcs or druids because I will not ever play either of them. :) )

Same for me, but I also like to get every wp except for Halls of Pain Hell

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I'm a woman's man: no time to talk.
Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around
since I was born.
And now it's all right. It's OK.
And you may look the other way.
We can try to understand
the New York Times' effect on man.

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother,
you're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin',
and we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive.

:flip:

My personal "rules":

1. No muling. Each character finds/shops/cubes/crafts/gambles/imbues his/her own items.
2. Play every area in the game once. No more, no less.
3. Full clears whenever possible. Parking a certain monster is allowed if they are impossible or too dangerous for the build to kill (very very rare).
4. No TP in belt.

In addition to those basics, each character often has additional restrictions or pecularities.

I totally follow your fashion or function principles.
 I find masks highly decorative and good eye candy. Especially the green ones. They look absolutely fabulous on Rangers.
As for paladins, I use bone shields and ocassionally bone helms on my thorns/sac char (open wounds and poison for added dramatic effect). A bone or spiked shield is a must for that sado-masochist and the bone helm gives that withered look to his visage. Recently I've turned to circlets to give more of a 'black' knight look. It's spiffy.
Now why did that have to make Toothrow so blindingly gaudy?

My number one rule: No listening to the Bee Gees

Number two: Equip *anything* that helps my character survive no matter how ridiculous it looks. If I found pink bunny slippers with 40 FRW, dual stats, and dual resists, I'd equip em.

Number three: All waypoints except Halls of the Dead (NM and Hell) and Halls of Pain, all quests except Hell Nihlathak.

Totally agree.

Would be cool to make a Fallen Paladin, but I wouldn't know what skills he would use....

I believe the pally forum determined that a Fallen Paladin would use no auras at all, just combat skills, so maybe maxed zeal backed up by max sacrifice as a synergy, then maxing 3 other combat skills (I think I'd go with smite, charge, and vengeance, to stay away from any "holy" or "blessed" skill)? That would be a really interesting and challenging character to play, and I could see Bone gear on a pally with that concept. Maybe upon defeating Hell Baal, he could put a point into one clvl 1 aura, signifying that he has finally returned to holiness? :)

Sorry about the continued hijacking, folks. :(
