Violet is the fourth character to complete his journey in my Colour-Coded Sept. The sept is based around having one character class respresent each of the seven colours of the rainbow. Basically, all gear must adhere to the chosen colour, as well as skills where possible.


Choosing the character and build was actually pretty easy for Violet. Since there are no purple skills in the game, it would have to be a non-coloured one which obviously trends towards melee. A big purple barb running around sounded fun, and Frenzy is my favourite of the "hold-the-right-mouse-button-and-go" variety, so that was that. Violet (or purple as the game files call it) actually has a bunch of weapon options, but only a handful of the actually transform well for the in-game graphics. He lucked out though, and had a serviceable option in Djinn Slayer. Once that was set, he just kind of plowed through everything. First some stats, then some thoughts below.

Other Notes and Final Thoughts

- The lack of War Cries sucked by the end. It was tolerable for normal and NM, but he got pretty squishy throughout Hell. His life pool was actually decent, but I really missed having some crowd-control options.

- Djinn Slayer actually held up quite well as an end-game weapon, super happy about that. I could have done some better socketing in them I'm sure, but quite frankly I just totally forgot. Serviceable for lower players settings, even though the repairs get a bit annoying.

- Gameplay in general was very straightforward, as almost all frenzy barbs are.

- He looked damn good. Barbs have a tendency to not display super well, just due to the nature of how their base armours not having a ton of colour-changing in general, but the purple really worked for it and had enough contrast with the black that it looked great.

Haha.. Yeah, that sword lasts about a waypoint per runout.. On my Zealot, I get around this by carrying 2 extra swords in the cube. Got me a bit more mileage out of them. Being a 1x3 slot weapon is a feature I guess 😅

Actually, since you have no weapons on switch, why not carry an extra set?

Cool character, colour themes are awesome. Style point for abstaining from battle cries too. Now we'd like to see the next one untwinked. By the way, will a socketed great helm still have golden horns or do they change colour as well?

U n00b! Why haven't you crafted a wand with lower resist charges and socketed it to fill it with an amethyst in order to get a purple curse? That is so super fast to do, everyone knows! :D

Great helms always have golden horns, the horns themselves do not transform. Lots of equipment have pieces like that that do not transform, such as the 'face' park of Tal's mask (although those horns DO transform!). Depending on the colour it's not a big deal (yellow, gold, even grey come to mind) but for purple they look bizarre.

Haha that is certainly a good creative workaround! Tell you what, you combine these two ideas and it sounds like you have yourself a nice project to work on. ;)

I'm definitely sticking twinked for this sept, but if someone wants to up the difficulty for a similar project, restricting to untwinked and/or no S/U would certainly be an interesting way to go.

Another nice one. I'm purple (violet) with envy! I'm actually back to my frenzy Barb, so it was fun to read the Hell playthrough. I need to remember to use crowd control war cries rather than recklessly running into those mana burn boss packs :rolleyes:

In the warhammer world, whose chaotic champions share a lot of fashion sense with Diablo II:s barbarians, there is a chaos god of excess and hedonistic living called Slaanesh whose signature colours are pink and purple.
