Absolutely nothing! He mfs good.

Reward for completing
On my way to 2nd Baal kill, a mob was nice enough to drop a Hone Sundan which I promptly socketed with Shael/Shael/Amn. I've been /p8 MFing Baal ever since.

Re: Patriarch Resoul

Congrats on the Patriarch and it is always pleasing to see another Fishymancer - my favourite build!

Re: Patriarch Resoul

Congratulations.

I'm currently playing a summoner as well. Untwinked though, so gear is looking very different from yours, which is pretty good by the way considering it's your first Pat.

Congratulations again :)

Re: Patriarch Resoul

Nice pat!

Do you find yourself using CE a lot? I think some more points in it would have helped a bit, rather than that investment in the Golem. And 2 things hurt my eyes while reading your post:

1) The Um rune in the mercs armour
2) Points in Energy

Do you take Baal on /p8 as well? If so, it's not really worth it, /p3 is plenty.

Re: Patriarch Resoul

Two reasons, one is that early on beating Diablo can be problematic. The slow and tanking ability that Clay Golem provides is invaluable. 60% Slow from Clay combined with Decrepify means bosses never kill more than 3 skeles (Meph) or none at all. Golem Mastery gives him the extra life (10k+) and was also intended to give the other golems a boost. I've never had the need to use the other golems so those points are wasted.

As for a Shako, that would be very sweet :) So would Treachery for my merc

I don't use CE all that much. I would put the wasted points in the other gols (not clay) and bone spear into it for sure.

1) Yeah - its a bit of a waste but I've been getting a fair number of Ums to drop and it's good mid-late game for merc's survivability
2) Points in energy are from gear/charms not hard points

Woops! Sorry about #2!

CE does increase in run times by quite a bit though. Wasn't your Golem durable enough perhaps? Mine does just fine at 1pt Clay/Mastery. It happens that he dies though, but a simple recast does the trick too.

Re: Patriarch Resoul

At 1/1 I found Diablo (norm) would have his way with him. I couldn't recast him fast enough and since he didn't slow all that much all my minions would die. This was also my first character in SP so I had zero gear (ie: almost no +skills). If I had more +skills early on it might have been a different story but without that gear it's near impossible to get past Diablo. Late game I find him even better with the amount he slows enemies - it's all the benefits of Kelpie now with the damage of Hone. :)

I think if I were to make another I'd take Blood/Iron/Fire/Revive/Bone Spear and put those points into CE - I am finding I use CE more late game than I did earlier on, mostly due to mana (didn't have much early on so a couple CEs and I'd be out). All the remaining skill points as I level/mf on /p8 Baal runs will go into CE for sure.

Re: Patriarch Resoul

Are you vanilla or RWM?

If you are RWM, try the Insight RW on your merc, for very quick mana replenish. Most people don't use that on their mercs, as they want CB for heavy critters. But for regular area running, Insight certainly isn't a bad thing to have.

In any case, having hard points in Blood/Iron/Fire Golem isn't a good thing to have. :) Unless you want an Iron Golem, of course. Btw, it might be a bit expensive (if he dies often), but an Insight Iron Golem is an option too.

Re: Patriarch Resoul

RWM, I think now that I have them a few +mana charms would have done the trick. I wouldn't trade CB for anything - I kill /p8 Baal in about 1/10th the time it took me to kill /p1 Baal the first time - that's the difference between Grim's and Hone.

Re: Patriarch Resoul

Masterfully done hero! Congrats on the first SP Pat and hopefully there will be many more to come. (Oh, and the name isn't half bad either)

Re: Patriarch Resoul

Ah, I see you had a bone to pick with Baal. (Sorry had to say it.) Gratz on your fishymancer Pat.
