A Holy Bolt/Healing Paladin is apparently called a Cleric... A long line of WTF build names bestowed on the humble Paladin. 😅

Hammerdins/Zealots/Avengers (Simple!)

Martyrs (Need to think a little deeper, but ok..)

And then..

Vanquishers/Templars/Vindicators/Justiciars (Seriously, now they're just making names up!)

Moving on, this build centres around Prayer and Holy Bolt for party heals. For SP, it plays just like any summoning/merc-reliant builds. Anyone familiar with Team Fortress 2, it looks somewhat similar to the Medic/Heavy ubercharging.

Normal and Nightmare are played at p8 with the typical twinking gear. Hell is played at p3 on Acts 1-3, and p1 at Acts 4-5, although I can actually ramp this up given the luck I had on monster spawns.

Thoughts on this build:

Holy Bolt deals 6K magic damage. 50% higher than the typical bonemancer at the cost of dealing to significantly less monster types. At p3 most Undead just die at 1 or 2 bolts. I was actually looking forward to Souls.

Prayer regens 62 life per 2 seconds, and having Cleansing on means double regen. Normal playstyle consist of switching Auras according to different situations in support of the Merc;

Cleansing: Default and used against Cursed, Aura or heavier mobs. With this on, I don't really have to pay attention to the Merc's health levels that much
Fanaticism: Against smaller mobs
Concentration: Against stun mobs such as Hulks, Frenzytaurs
Salvation: Against Conviction Aura, Souls and Council Members
Vigor: Mobility
Redemption: Against resurrecting monsters.

Spellsteel in stash in case of non-Undead PIs and teleports.

Open areas are the most annoying area to deal with since the Merc tends to wander around. While Vigor helps in getting him to keep up with you, having multiple targets in a wider areas means a longer wait for full clearance, especially against non-Undead mobs. With limited teleporting, this is a huge nuisance.

As such, I had the worst experience in Frigid Highlands/Frozen Tundra, on top of barriers which I rely on the Merc to break.

Mobs that knockback/stun were the hardest to deal with. I was lucky not to come across any Death Lords but even Hulks and Frenzytaurs were a challenge. Lister pack took ages to overcome. It didn't help that Lister rolled PI as well.

Took 2 rolls on Ancients. 1st one chewed the Merc up in seconds.

Baal was the only boss that posed problems due to consistent knockbacks and clonings.

Cows took quite a while and multiple Merc resurrections as they can only take on 5-6 of them at a time. Horrible luck as well with around 4 elites rolled PIs.

Otherwise, I felt that this build seems safer than the PDR Abbott I played earlier. Fun and something new for me.

Normally I would stand around waiting for him to kill things just like any other summoners since his health won't drop under 80% for majority of mobs.

I only heal against tougher mobs and bosses. Merc has decent survival gear on his own with Tal's mask for leech + fade from armor.
