Patriarch Lachdanan

Well, I just shamelessly copy & pasted this stuff from a thread I posted on another forum couple of days ago. I just thought I could post this here too as this is one of my all-time favourite builds and I found some great stuff while questing :)

This is quite long one so be patient

Furydruid is my favourite melee character, and as I have found some nice items for that build, I thought about making one. I stole a nice name for him (my last furydruid was called Lachdanan too, imagination, yeaah ) from D1 and started whacking. Today he killed hell Baal and reached Patriarch status. And I must say, I have never before found as much good stuff while questing I played on p8 all the way just for fun, I haven't done that solo ever before

Normal was quite easy. The first acts were boring...killing all those monsters one by one with Feral Rage was horrible. I died once on normal, I was surrounded by dozens of Flayers and both my weapon and armor broke On lvl 31 things got much better, shaeled Ribcracker and Fury is deadly combo

Nm was even easier, on lvl 56 I twinked my druid with upped & shaeled Ribcracker. Not much else to say about nm

After killing nm Baal on lvl 73 I just tried to get to the Pits asap. I had to do some leveling there so I could equip Lachdanan with Tomb Reaver and Azurewrath. Before lvl 85 he was almost helpless against PI's. In Pits he found Veil of Steel, 2x assy trap skiller (+str and +dex as 2nd mods), 175 psn dmg lc and this small charm:

Arcing Small Charm of Frost
Keep in Inventory to Gain Bonus
Required Level: 57
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 85
Fingerprint: 0xc1a2c546
Adds 1-41 lightning damage
Adds 1-2 cold damage over 1 seconds

Quite nice sc

In act 2 Dry Hills a random monster dropped Pul rune

In act 3 I found 5% allres sc and almost got killed by Stormtree (managed to escape after 6 full rejuvs)

Act 4 was slow going. Monster had so insane amount of hp Really, it was harder to kill a pack of few spawners than Mephy. Hellforge dropped Lem and I didn't kill my druid in Chaos Sanctuary

First parts of act 5 were a joke but Frozen River was horrible. Gloams and sirens everywhere draining my mana and killing my merc, grizzly and Oak Sage I met gloams in Great Marsh but they were so much easier than those act 5 ones. Well, after long time stuggling there I rescued Anya, identified the stuff I had picked up. One of those jewels I got there turned out to be this:

Ruby Jewel of Fervor
Required Level: 58
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 85
Fingerprint: 0x85d49373
+35% Enhanced Damage
15% Increased Attack Speed

My second ed/ias jewel ever :flip: I was quite shocked when edentified it

Killed Ancients on p8, I didn't reroll them even once because they weren't FE. Korlic was mana burn and Talic had Amp but they died easily

FELECE Bartuc killed me and Baal dropped only one unique, Bonehew

Some things of note:

-Mana burn sucks
-Anything with stun attack is really dangerous. Almost every time I was in great danger there was monsters with stun attack hitting me
-Oak Sage dies too easily
-Upgraded Ribcracker is really good weapon

Wow, that's some insane damage + life! Congratulations! You are just uber! Now tell me, how many fpa did you have?

I remember Lachdanan from Diablo 1. He was no doubt my favourite NPC and I always felt... good talking to him. He was a great NPC.

Congrats on the Patriarch.

Masterfully done!

I had a fury druid back in the day... nowhere near as good as yours though... :p

Congratz!

Fury druids > zealots any time any place!

My very first pat was like that, in 1.09. I know I said I would now go to the barbs, but I couldn't resist the druid call, and my fury/rabies has just finished NM. Very solid build really.

One question, why did you go with OS instead of HoW?

Congrats on the Patriarch.

Someone help me out here, which one was Lachdanan  ? Is it the drunk guy who had all the nightmares and stuff or am I completely off boat here.

Anyways, congrats on the awesome druid man! I'm thinking with a tomb reaver and some other decent mf gear, Lachdanan could be a great mfer for you  .

Side note: Anyone remember the name of the main werewolf in that movie Underworld? My next char might be a fury wolf and I wanna name him that (for obvious reasons I hope).

Congrats. Nice work!

No, that was Farnham. Lachdanan was the warrior (he looked just like one of the Doom Knight enemies) on Floor 15 (or 14...can't remember ATM) who would give you the Veil of Steel. You had to complete some sort of quest for him first, though, and I completely forgot what that was! :p

And congrats on the Pat! Sheesh...4600+ life. I thought I was doing great in 1.09 when my Zealot became my first char to top 1000 life, but that's nothing compared to that total! Quite impressive!

Correct. Lachdanan was on floor 14, two floors before Diablo. He was a Doom Knight and the right hand of King Leoric in the days where he wasn't corrupted. Lachdanan asked if you could find a golden potion (on lvl 15) to help him free himself from his immortal prison (or something like that). He gave you the veil of steel (a helmet) as reward and said: "If there is any way I can help you from beyond the grave I will find it... but for now, take my helm. On the journey I'm about to take, I will have little use for it. Go with the light my friend". He never helped more though, and I felt a bit sad that he didn't. I never truly got closure on that quest. But it was great! The best quest in D1 imo.

Thanks everyone :)

What's your next project?

Maybe rebuilding my zealot once again. I try to remake all my powerbuilds and then maybe continue grailing to find he last 10 items or try some underpowered weirdo builds

I agree :D

Both paladins and druids have their pros and cons but I prefer druis, somehow they are much cooler

Lemming aswered your question about HoW, I value extra life over little bit more damage

@ ahcw & Wolfgang

Lachdanan was that knight guy in lvl 15 (?). You had to find a potion for him so he could kill himself. When you found the potion and gave it to him, he rewarded you vith Veil of Steel helm. Thats what I remeber about it. Of course, my druid isn't that suicidal guy but I think that name fits druid so perfectly :D Kinda weird that my druid found Veil of Steel while questing

edit: Doh, Rizzo was faster and explained it better

way to go lprman. dr00ds > all. :xirish:

Oh now I remember him. That really was a great quest. My favorite is still the butcher though. Getting past him with my mage was pretty darn tough.

Ok so that question was answered, but how bout this one:

"Anyone remember the name of the main werewolf in that movie Underworld? My next char might be a fury wolf and I wanna name him that (for obvious reasons I hope)."

edit: Ok I really feel like I've hijacked this thread and for that I apologize. If anyone knows the name of the werewolf (it's something like Lucaius) then PM it to me so as to not clog up this thread anymore.

Well done! I've never played around much with Druids, but they do intrigue me. It's good to see that they can become Pats with some good drops and skill.

Here's to many more! :drink:

Congratz to your patty  . Haven't made one of those myself but maybe my next projekt.

Some nice damage and life there
What did you do against IM monsters

Well, I just killed them :D

If OK casts IM on my druid when he is attacking stuff his life orb gets almost empty really fast. But when my druid is just about to die, he will transform back into human (you can't die when in wereform). Usually I had few hundred hp left so I just quickly drink fat purple and escaped. No real problems if you aren't comletely surrounded by nasty monsters

And often when I saw OK's, I summoned my Grizzly next to them. OK will attack the enemy nearest to them so I could kill stuff while OK's concentrated on my bear

@ corax

You are wrong. Zon > druid > all
