The Druid was the fifth class in a 2H Melee Sept, a vehicle to use the eTomby and tick off another melee build that I hadn't tried before, using Jihad Jesus's guide as a baseline for approach. The eTomby is pretty much perfect for this build, with 90IAS (allowing 6-frame attack with 55IAS off-weapon, which is easily achieved with gloves, Highlord's, and a jewel), high physical damage, and some solid resists from the heavy-hitting 2H-er.

It worked pretty much as planned, with Infinity largely solving AR problems without charms, and freeing those up for Shape Shifting skillers, which allowed 1-point base skills to jump into 10+ range, which in turn freed up skills to max two FC synergies and half of a third, for very high complimentary fire damage (with conviction from Infinity kicking it up a notch for non-FIs and still making relevant for broken FIs).

Hitting the 86 FHR breakpoint and fully maxed resists helped with defense. I was a little disappointed with contribution from merc, with the Druid getting hit more than I would have expected, and mana burn really undescoring how much. I guess this confirms ~13k defense isn't really enough for defense to key character design, and Might likely would have been better after all.

Shock Wave is a nice skill as expected, although I never quite mastered its aim to hit mobs efficiently. And its limited range leaves him vulnerable to ranged enemies, especially when he's amp'ed and lots of baddies at distance. He kept Maul charged, so that added to leech, and damage to FIs, and it was fairly easy to maintain.

I skipped the summons because he was plenty powerful on his own, but the 5 points to get 1-point Grizzly likely would have been more worth it compared to the third FC synergy for added crowd control. On that point, he was very beefy and strong, but amp, especially around unleechables, was a challenge as to be expected. Mana burn was an annoyance and generally managed around, but it was sometimes challenging if around unleechables and amp'ed.

He was p8 all the way through Hell, and full clears of all A85 areas per my usual, and all quests completed. Three deaths to beetles in A2, I think due to same mechanic that makes War Cry deadly, and a sloppy death in WSK, but otherwise he was very solid and safe. He wasn't quite as powerful as my eTomby Fury Druid, Reaver, but only a little behind. Having Shock Wave made him safer, but he was slower on sheer power scale, but having easy PI solution with Fire Claws balanced things out.

His updates are here (to A1 H), here (leveling 84 for eTomby), here (A1 to A4) and here (A5). He did 13 Pindle runs to ping 89 after Pat'ing, and is headed to retirement. Only finds of note were two Ums, one when leveling in the Cave to 84 and the other from Hell Countess.

- Kira's (70@) w/ AR and IAS jewel
- Fortitude (mostly for %ED, but resists helped max things out)
- Verdungo's (Vita and FHR; %DR was helpful)
- Crafted Blood gloves with 20 IAS, MF and LR
- up'ed Gores
- Highlord's (20 IAS, LR, + skill)
- Ravenfrost (249/19) and dual leech rare with resists
- Backback: 8 SS Skillers, resists/AR/elemental SCs with FHR/vita

6 frame Normal attack, with maxed @resists, 86 FHR breakpoint, and >2500 life and high defense. He was very sturdy, even at p8 the whole way.

Next up is a 2H Abbott with Insight stave. I'm still working through gear tradeoffs, but he will be more offensive and likely not reach 80 iDR recommended range as a result. But I haven't gone through circlets or blue armor options, and have some gold that can be gambled. So we'll see what we can dig up!

This is one of my favourite builds. I have an as yet incomplete or written up fire druid collection with one in, I went with a normal 3 Shael Tomby for 1/2 extra frames iirc.

One question - Why no Jalal's? I think this is more beneficial than Kira's? You have double CbF with the Ravenfroat. By my calculations 1.28K AR with lvl 12 conviction = 7K AR without.

@maxicek - this is why I asked for feedback in the progress thread, to help avoid my going astray with suboptimal gear choices :D

Looking at it now, Jalal's would definitely have better than Kira's. The main reason for Kira's was the large resist all to allow a backpack full for skillers and the CBF, especially as I was leveling in the Cave to equip the eTomby. But I ended up keeping the froat for AR and dext, so the CBF became irrelevant. And the +4 skills would have easily offset needing to swap out three SS skillers for Shimmering GCs to make up for the 40@ difference in resists to keep maxed (and I also have 3 Shimmering GCs with FHR that would have freed up SCs for more non-fire elemental damage, plus the extra 10 FHR from Jalal's, and the extra AR% wouldn't have gone amiss). I also don't have a Jalal's socketed with an IAS jewel, which was needed to hit 6 frames, while I had the Kira's ready. So I think the need for resists while leveling in Hell before eTomby and the distraction of IAS clouded my judgment.

Bottom line: Jalal's would have been better and made this fine fellow even more potent than he was!
