So many builds, So little time. -> Hastings had two sides: "Dr Jekyll" experimented with delivering damage mainly by crushing blows accompanied with other gimmicks with less efficient considered onehanders with minimal investment in WW. The raw damage cookie cutter 2-hander whirler "Mr Hyde" took more and more over nearing the end. These a bit contraticting concepts are not really visible from the end stats but had an effect on the journey to that point.

Dr Jekyll
I wanted to make a character that mainly uses CB as a killer and have minimal real damage. My masterplan of using full Angelic set was thwarted by the less than manageable durability issues of the sabres, so I settled for Coldsteel Eye's. They reach last WW bp, have manasteal, slows target and the hilarious blinds target (which is not a curse and triggers while whirling!). As raw damage was not at all the main plan, WW was left below 10 poinst to keep manacosts low. If it wasn't for Mr Hydes needs WW would have remained at 1 point.

I planned I would be a "caster" relying only on manaregen from mercs Insight, but it turned out the damage numbers on those Coldsteel Eyes are deceptive and manapool was replenished even when merc lagged behind somewhere. Even though I didn't need to rely on the mercs Insight, the extra manaregen was nice. There was never a case where manaburn was a problem.

Played with this setup well into Act 1 Hell. It was surprisingly viable, I think he could do P1-P3 Hell easy. Really liked calming mobs down with the blinds target and slow. Used a defiance merc, but I think a holy freeze merc would have worked better for safety. It was silly to even think about Reapers, the blinds target would just override it. So Insight FTW! Things to consider in my praise: the charms added +51max damage, DS was at 65-80 depending on boots (CS from mastery not counted in). Random idea: Silence PB could work! A dedicated Patriarch of this type was put on the todo list.

Mr Hyde
The Oath Balrog Blade is the most damaging weapon I have had my hands on so far. I wanted to "put that to good use". And then I did. :)

Mr Hyde took over completely as Hastings entered act 2 Hell. Respecced to clean out some, at this point, wasted points (1pt in Frenzy, increased speed, mace mastery). Maxed BO Shout, Sword mastery and put enough points in Natural Resists. This meant WW would not be maxed. I was fine by this. I thought damage had been fine for a long time anyways. And I just went and hired a Might merc. I thought it was nice that he would be gaining more damage every level even though being 80+. Got the last point for WW from level up from Baal kill.:D But at patting he had only 19 points in WW.

Mr Hyde was ok+, a bit too cookiecutter but also not quite overpowered enough.:) I would rather have had Fortitude as armor than Laying of Hands as gloves. The discrepency between killing power of demons and undead was a drag. But on the other hand I was not going to skip 350ed on principal of consistent damage. So Hastings was a bit of a demonkiller specialist in the end.

Played on varius player settings. Default was P5, P3/P1 for Undead heavy areas (Tal's tomb) and ranged heavy crappy Act5 open areas. Pits on P7. Baal & friends were dealt with on P8. Oh I didn't mention Ancients: fast & easy. Gloam solution: run past drinking pots.

Finds: Mal in NM, Gul in Pits, Ist from Ventar, Lem from Hellforge, 150ed WWS (low roll but this was my second one, so I can up the other one and level with this one!)

I thought I had like 20 or so screenshots to choose from for this thread. But as it happens I had not bound the F9 key used on my other chars for screenshots for Hastings and had indeed taken no screens at all. Here are a few post pat for looks:

Press RMB. Hold until everything is dead. Don't die before they do.

Seriously though. I skirt around the edge of packs (HC) and for small groups/single target, I do little triangles.
 
Great write up! I am still planning my Barb for HC. I didn't think about silence as an option and will have to ponder that a bit...good luck with your next characters!
