Story

But why? Well the main reasons I thought this would be an excellent idea was never having to worry about mana (which would be a (minor) issue as mana steal isn't an option with Berserk) and the assumption that the Oskill Critial Strike would be additive with Mastery critical strike (it isn't! More on this later). Other things from Insight that complement a berserker:
- 35 FCR makes casting warcries feel more responsive.
- AR is not really a problem for a berserker but an extra +200% means you get away with even less base AR.
- ability to use a baseweapon with rangeadder 4
- a bit of MF.
The only but big con is lack of inherent IAS.

Reading about the Pit zerker gave me the idea to do a cheap knockoff and to pile on some MF. This lead to the choice of Goldwrap, Chancies and Wartravs. My plan was to use a polearm with range 4 and I used a Grim Scythe for most of NM. No suitable elite base dropped / rolled 4 socs and damage was starting to feel inadequate, so I made a drastic choice and Larzuk'd the one and only Elder staff lying in my stashes. I did miss the ability to hit howled enemies in the back, but the raw damage more than compensated for that and for being slower.

Using a slow two handed weapon ( => no shield for resists) and having 0 defence as a close to permanent state meant Treachery was a no brainer choice for armour. Proccing Fade was not going to be a problem. Goldwrap and Treachery gave me 55 IAS which gave me a whopping 13 frame attack. :) Honestly this was not at all so bad as I thought but with that blistering speed of attack I did not want to miss so Angelic amulet and ring were chosen for AR.

I tried some setups without Treachery but honestly living without the IAS was horrible. I guess 13 frames was my pain treshold. Slower was just bad. So I was pretty much stuck with Treachery. Which was ok. There just wasn't really much flexibility available for say equipping a MF armour. It is of course possible to get to 55 IAS from other sources but not really with my efforts to stay cheap.

For leveling in normal and Nm Barabbas wore IK gloves, belt, boots, helm with PTopazes. The +20 dex +45 str they gave were needed to handle the ridiculous 140 str & 140 dex requirements of Grim Scythe. I would say that the partial set was fairly close in performace to the Shako + Wartravs, Goldwrap I ended up with in Hell.

Normal and NM were done on p8 and hell at p1. Suffered no deaths in Hell, maybe none at any difficulty (can not recall). Ancients rolled easy and were no problem. Baal took time as my crushing blow source was mercs Guillaumes, but managed without returning to town for pots. How Barabbas was played: Run till a boss pack is sighted, Howl x 3 (to catch all the followers), BC boss, kill boss, FI corpse, Taunt minions one by one and kill, run forward, repeat. The further the end I got to more emphasis was put on the running part.

Shout really did nothing for me but helped merc. Because of this I was supposed to replace my Defiance merc with a Might merc but forgot. :) Also contemplated Holy Freeze for the slow although it would have had negative effects for Find Item.


Insight insights
------------------------
- Insight is going to be slow whatever base you choose. I would stear clear of the bases with +10 basespeed.
- Staffs have tight damage spread and (the basespeed 0 ones) have max 4 sockets so Larzuk can sort things out. Cubing chances are good also (roll is 1-6 sockets and rolls '5' and '6' are capped at 4 giving 50% chance for 4 sockets). Also requirements for staffs are low.
- Polearms can be faster (Thresher, Giant Thresher) and have more range but stat requirements are way higher vs staffs. Giant Thresher is worst in game in this regard requiring 328 combined statpoints.


Critical Strike is not Critical Strike

I had hoped that Oskill Critcal Strike would be additive with Critical Strike from mastery. This is sadly not the case. According to Amazon Basin the way CS from mastery (MCS) and Oskill CS work together is the same way Deadly Strike (DS) and CS work together. Chance for double damage = 100 - (100 - CS)*(100 - MCS)/100. I learned this as I was well into NM. And it was a reason I didn't put any more points into mastery although I had originally planned to. In Hell my CS was at level 8 (5 from Insigt, +2 from shako and +1 from BC) which gave 51% chance for double damage. Mastery was at level 4 (1 hard point, +2 from shako and +1 from BC) giving 15% chance for double damage. According the formula I had 58,35% chanche for double damage.

Pits are ok on P1 so maybe run there for variety once in a while. Pindle could work too. Will respec to use Ethereal Edge if I ever find the relics for it, maybe pump R/W skill in the process.

Nice setup, good to see it worked :) Re stats, if you spend a lot on strength, that will add damage too. Next char try a titan ;) I once tried an insight wolf, but it sucked so bad I gave up on it. The speed was killing me.
