Patriarch Anomander_Rake, Vengeance & Iron Golem Meleemancer


Anomander_Rake is a somewhat themed meleemancer. The character appears in The Malazan Book of the Fallen series. He has long white hair and carries a huge two handed sword. So another meleemancer then. That is about where this theme runs out though. In the books he can also transform into a dragon and, as of now, there is no item with +20 to weredragon.

But the character look kind of fits, so I stole the name. I have had an Iron Golemancer planned for a long time, but the idea of waiting around whilst the golem and merc killed something, before corpse exploding the rest, never appealed to me. When I had the idea of using Vengeance in every class I saw the opportunity to combine the two builds into one.

Gameplay



I tried a variety of Iron Golems. They were much more robust than when I have tried them with minimal point investment before, but I couldn't keep one alive for the whole game. No Pride or Beast IG for me in the future. Part of that may be my lack of teleport, or the fact that when I am meleeing myself I'm not paying so much attention to the IG. But he did seem to disappear for no reason on occasions.

Obedience Cryptic Axe - Good but died quickly for some reason
Tomb Reaver - Terrible, did insufficient damage and died easily.
Windhammer - Not bad, the damage was goo.
IK Stone Crusher - Cheap and does the job. The best choice for me. I tried socketing with Amn runes to keep it alive longer, but it wasn't worth it.

This character also means I have now used Vengeance in all seven classes. I'm not calling this a sept though, as some of the characters already are a part of other two handed sword septs.

I have 9 Patriarch Necros now. 5 use two-handed swords and one uses a two-handed axe.

Nicely done! How does indestructible mod from a runeword work with an Iron Golem?

Really interesting read. I have been tempted to play a melee-mancer with an iron golem myself.
How much would you say you used CE? On all but the first enemy, or just sparingly?

Nice pat Maxicek. Any points in Life Tap? I used it quite alot on my Meleemancer to keep IG alive. Just a quick flash at oppurtune times and he reloads life real fast.

Was just curious, as it seems like indestructible would at least convey some improved resistances or PDR. Thanks for the info.

Congratulations on your pat and nice alternative build. I watched (parts) of your video. How did you find the 1.2k AR for Hell with conviction in general.
You mentioned the Tomby had pitiful damage which I am surprised about. Makes me wonder how the IG damage calcs when a weapon is used for IG. It is the full damage of the weapon plus the IG damage, the base damage of the weapon plus the IG damage and the ED on the weapon is counted as off weapon or some other calc
Liked that the CB weapons are a great of source damage for the alternative weapon options you listed and worked out better for this build.

I did some calcs years ago, 1.2K AR with Conviction works out as about 7K without. He hits just fine.

I didn’t really do any real maths for the IGs, it is just a feel thing.
