OT: The Daily Thread

Don't think I ever posted here and haven't checked in a while!
RL: New Tool album came out today. Listening to it for the first time now. It already sounds incredibly good, and usually their albums take quite some time to sink in, so it's safe to say it's a stunning album.
I saw them in June after missing out on a chance to see them 13 years ago. It was a wonderful atmosphere and one of the best concerts I've ever seen (despite of course taking place in a huge arena), really took me back to my adolescence.

@darkstarhub all the best man!

While I'm at it, why not:

RL: Started a new job a couple of months ago as an in-house legal counsel for a tech/HR start-up, and I really like it. I'm the first legal hire, and it's really cool to have all-round responsibility for legal topics in a more youthful but ambitious environment. Great fit for me personally in comparison to specializing in specific corporate matters like I did in my old job (previously I worked as an associate in a big law firm), and much better work/life balance.

D2: Basically just untwinked 99er Pally at the moment (currently around 98.4), but a couple of fun builds are in the pipeline. Generally not playing a lot though at the moment.

OVG: I recently started trying to properly learn fighting games, with MK11 being the game of choice. When I was younger I played RTS games semi-competitively, and I thought it could be nice to play online/ranked matches again. I find it fascinating how high the skill ceiling is for fighting games. The downside is, as someone who's learning, you not only get completely destroyed 80% of the time, but people really crush your soul by rubbing it in being BM and that kind of stuff. :p Generally I'm not a sore loser, though I must say in MK11 the "result of losing" means getting beat up, beheaded, tea bagged and what not... It can be frustrating for sure. ;)

RL: Have a rare Saturday off. Need to catch up on UFC. Work was horrendous - back pain was ridiculous and sales were way above projections. Had to take a painkiller, which I don't like doing with my addiction history, but I need to pay bills :-) D&D Monday to look forward to, kicking off a three-day weekend, such is shift work.

D2: Maybe on the day off.

OVG: Still terrible at Rocket League, still playing Rocket League. Probably some Rimworld to relax.

RL: just waiting to hear back from HR about when I can start in LA, then need to make plans to move back home. Good thing my dad has some vacation days to help me move and the drive back too.....

OVG: the shiny regional event has not been kind. 87 eggs later and still no shiny. Oh well, at least next week is gen 5 / shiny Mewtwo week.... and Sunday is community day. Hoping for at least a three star shiny turtle.....

RL: Every year a big group of us bring sound equipment and set up karaoke at a bar in town. We call the event “Rockstar Karaoke” and it usually ends with a few hundred people just belligerently intoxicated. Last night was no different. My partner from PD and I went up on stage shit faced and cry-sang You Were Meant For Me by Jewel.

Hell was raised lol. Watching the Chiefs play and enjoying a little hangover postponing beverage.

D2: Nike today but I’m still trucking along in LK

RL: Did the last swimming race of the year on Saturday. I was a bit slower than the same course in July, which wasn’t bad considering less training over the last few weeks. It is warm here, so maybe will still be swimming outside in the next weeks.
Back to work for a 7am conference call this morning.

D2: Just starting A3 Hell with my 2h sword Amazon.

OVG: First wire up and smoke test for the MAME cabinet. Not really a cabinet yet, just starting getting the software up and running and making sure the buttons work.

@maxicek That seems cool. I fondly remember playing games from my youth through MAME (it is the same emulator you are talking about, I assume) a couple years ago. My favourite has always been Shinobi. I also liked the original Double Dragon a lot.

@ffs I actually saw Tool some 13 years ago, during Ozzfest. I would love to see them on a headline show though. Haven't checked to see if they are doing a European tour actually. Will do so right after this post :).

@MizzouFTW My name on Steam is the same as here: T72on1. Always happy to team up and if you are in for some GD. Do you also have any of the expansions?

The only GD forums I have checked so far are the official ones. They seem really nice. Not sure if anything like these ones exist though. It would surely be great if there were. Would give me some more directions and incentives as to where to grind items and stuff like that.

I'm 42 btw, so a lot older than you ;). Never really cared for a career, and still don't. But I do want to get a job which means something to me. Helping people out maybe. Something useful.

@T72on1, @ffs: All this talk about Tool made me have to share this:

Music Education done right, if you ask me. Puts a smile on my face each time this pops up when I shuffle play my liked songs in Spotify.

RL: Meh.

D2: Taking a break from my 2 UT 99ers as well as the class-specific sept I've been working on to mess around with some untwinked hardcore characters. I should probably finish my tournament characters, but I always forget when entering that I prefer not dealing with equipment restrictions.

OVG: nope, though at some point I need to finish my run of all 21 premade class characters in Morrowind.

@maxicek Very cool dude. You going to post a photo when it's complete?

Here in KC we have a few barcades with homemade cabinets setup with Retropie. Not sure how if it's legal or not for them to sell pirated entertainment but it's a lot of fun

@T72on1 No expansions that I can remember but I'll pick them up if they enhance the experience

RL: preparing to move back home. Got a new job that promotes me two steps. Have to report in LA by the 30th. Probably won’t be around much.

OVG: Unova is out in Pokémon go. Nice to see shadows around on the nearby again. Hatched some new ones too, which made up for the 95 egg non shiny regional streak....

I like both expansions. The Crucible DLC doesn't add much, certainly now that the Forgotten Gods expansion offers Shattered Realms, a series of randomized dungeons and increasingly harder waves.

I bought Forgotten Gods the week of release but I didn't want to play it until I finished Ultimate, which I still haven't done.

RL: Back to work after a three-day weekend. Played a one-shot in D&D because the Monk couldn't make it, still had a great time. Work has settled down a bit now the kids are back to school. Had to play a midweek game of soccer as a last-minute replacement with the work lads, which I nearly forgot I agreed too. It was only a friendly, so my body isn't punishing me that much for being out of shape.

D2: A few more Pit runs with the Wind Druid. No noteworthy drops as I haven't had the focus to run it at any great length.

OVG: Rocket League. Also tried the latest build of 7 Days To Die, as I haven't been back to that in a while.

RL: I finally set my goals for running for the remaining part of 2019. A nature half marathon mid november is the first one. We have done this one a lot, as it's really close to where we live, and it gives us a chance to compete with each other and finally try to run really fast, instead of the slow long runs we always do together :). I'm aiming for a time of 1:30:00 at the very minimum, but hope to be able to beat my personal best of 1:29:09 at that course.

Second goal is a 69K trailrun with some 2000 metres of altitude gain a week later. Not ideal, so close to each other, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Last goal is a 80K trailrun mid December, which starts at midnight in the beautiful region of Leuven near Brussels. It's the longest distance I have ever tackled, but since it doesn't contain any significant altitude gain, shouldn't be my longest one in terms of duration. As it's mid December, the weather will be an important factor though.

D2: only my weekly group game, but I will probably participate in the mini RFL. Playing D2 in the group game after a week of GD, without D2, made me realize how much I still love the game, despite the fact that I'm also having tons of fun with GD.

OVG: GD obviously. Getting to endgame with my highest character now. I'm also leveling up a character with a RL friend of mine, and will probably start doing the same with a fellow Basiner soon.

Haven't posted one of these in a long time, so figured it's time! :D

RL - I've been in an outpatient program for depression/anxiety/suicidal thoughts for the past two weeks that was really helpful. Today was my last day and I go back to work tomorrow. I'm nervous, but I'm pretty confident it will be ok

D2: Melisandre splatted in the Overburdened Tournament, so I'm really just working on my untwinked 99er hammerdin, albeit quite slowly. I'm at a weird spot with him where he's almost level 80, but his gear is pretty mediocre and Hell is really scary (HC baby!). NM farming targets are all pretty bad if I want to make appreciable progress, but I feel like farming anything in Hell is asking to die an early death. We'll see. Currently running H Countess very slowly, hoping for a few Lems

OVG: Classic WoW mostly. As much as I love classic, levelling is pretty slow and difficult, even with so many people grouping, so I take a lot of breaks. Also playing through Dungeon Siege 2, which is a fantastic experience everyone here should try at some point

With my HC 99er Hammerdin, I ran the Crypt and the Mausoleum. It was also slow, but it's not a bad place to farm in early Hell.

Probably not as slow as my passivezon was when she farmed those!

My hammerdin really lucked out with a Vipermagi dropping while questing through NM. That combined with 'Spirit' in a pally shield took care of most of his resistance needs.

@Dazliare: Good hunting and stay safe!

Rl: has a buddy pass away the other day. Drove drunk, hit a tree and they found him a few hours later. Going to STL for the funeral in a few days. Pretty frustrating stuff.

D2: haven’t loaded up in a week or so. Probably won’t for another week but I look forward to getting back into the groove.

OVG: I need to catch up and see what’s been released or will be at some point so nothing for now but I bet that new Zelda game for Switch is pretty cool
