OT: The Daily Thread

Kitteh, I'm shocked. Although, not really ;).

RL: did my inscription for a half marathon on November 18. Not on pavement obviously, but through the woods and over muddy roads. Although with the weather we've had all year, it still has to be seen if there will be any mud. That race is known for it, but if things don't change quickly, we'll get all but mud I guess. Two years ago I participated in that one as well, managing a time of 1:29:07. Not bad considering that probably equals a time around 1:26:00 on pavement. It will be hard to do so well this year, but I'm still aiming for a time below 1:30:00.

Early December we'll probably do a coast run in the Netherlands, which would be my first real coast run. Real, as in 'more than a 10K training run'. It's 'only' 44K, which is as short as an ultra gets, but should be quite hard due to wind and loose sand on the beach and in the dunes.

I also picked up my plans for my first mountain trail next year. I put them away for a bit after issues with my hip, but now that I notice that is under control as long as I do my core training on a regular base, I really have my mind set on it. One of my running buddies seems to be eager to go with me as well, so that should be fun. Currently looking at the Zugpitze 80K in Germany or the GGUT 75K in the GrossGlockner region in Austria.

D2: 25M more and my Sorc hits 99. So exciting. The funny thing is that the xp bar didn't seem to move for such a long time, and now that I have arrived at the last stretch, it seems to move with every kill I make. It's probably just me going a bit mental after 10K Nihl runs :). I'll just have to make sure I keep focused, and then lvl 99 should soon be there.

After that there's plenty of stuff to do: get that last Sur for Enigma on my HC Paladin 99er, finish my Doom/Phoenix Furywolf, continue my Title Grail, level some more characters, MF, RF and xp runs with other characters, ...

OVG: dabbled a bit in S15 of D3, but lost interest again really fast, because it was just a grind to get the two weapons I needed. Too bad really. I did have quite some fun playing a Monk again, by far my favourite class in D3 and maybe even in every RPG I have ever played.

Occasionally I feel the itch to play Grim Dawn or Path of Exile again, so that might happen at some point. GD probably not until the second expansion gets released though. I also got Shadow Warrior 2 for free from GoG, gotta try that ... some day ... maybe.
 
Racing a HC character? Sounds like a bad plan ;). No, I will definitely pick up ShouldBeEasy after I finish Neverland, but will need a break from repetitive runs. So the order will probably be: finish my Doom/Phoenix Furywolf (+ do some more questing on another character if there still is time), then the Snapchipton, then ShouldBeEasy. Note that I tend to change my mind about such stuff quite easily though :).

I agree with you on D3. We actually had a group game going through story mode on Euro HC once, not so long after the game launched. I thought it was a lot of fun, but 2 people withdraw rather quickly due to other interests or so, so we never even got beyond Act 1. Too bad really, I'd still want to try something like that. Jurgen from our Oliver's Army group is playing D3 as well, we could give it a try to see if he (or someone else) is interested. Ergates used to play D3 as well, but I doubt we'll get him to do a group game in it at this point.

You haven't done this before, have you? You don't invite them to play, you simply inform them that they will be playing.
 
@T72on1 Those are pretty nice half marathon times! While training for a the Toronto Waterfront Marathon a couple of years ago I hit 1:27:20 on a treadmill, which probably would've equated to around 1:30:00-1:35:00 on pavement depending on focus. Then I decided to go 100% pavement training as the date approached and promptly injured my ankle. Only did one legitimate training run in the 2 months preceding the race and barely managed to stay under 3:30:00 in the end. Frustrated I wasn't able to push through with my planned training, but still happy to finish with at least a respectable time (respectable for me personally). I suppose that's all a part of the game with running, though.

In other news...

RL: Our 9-month-old woke up at 3:15 yesterday morning and decided to stay awake until 4:50 - 10 minutes before I wake up. Jerk. Only decided to cut my sleep short at 4:15 today, so I guess that's something.

D2: Patted my second of three child-based characters; waiting to post a pat thread until he hits level 91 to complete the build. Also started #3.

OVG: None for me. My wife recently picked up Lords of the Realm II again, and just hearing that music alone is really tempting me to play a game or two. But game time is so precious and there's so much to do in D2 still...

@jonnyphive Lords of the Realm II ... wow, that's a trip down memory lane for me. Played that game so much. Never got good at it though. Definitely a lot of fun though.
 
@T72on1 LoTR2 is typically dirt cheap on GoG and Steam... even with the Siege Pack it only costs about $5... totally worth it for the nostalgia alone. I had a CD copy but it eventually became unusable with newer operating systems so I gave in and bought it again.

If you do ever play it again and get good enough to play on the "impossible" difficulty setting, you'll get a kick out of how much the AI cheats at that level - I guess it was necessary to make a real challenge when game AIs were much less well-developed. Set the starting army and money values to 0, and on turn 2 they have 300+ man armies taking adjacent counties.
 
I still have the cd somewhere, and a cd drive, so I could fire it up if I get it to run on my system. Maybe I might at some point. I'm pretty absolutely sure that I won't play it long enough to even get close to the impossible difficulty setting though ;).
 
@Kitteh you really should. A true classic with a great mix of turn-based and real-time strategy (and the real-time is optional on a battle-by-battle basis, too, if you're not a fan of that kind of thing. But it is fun to take advantage of the poor AI in the real-time battles, though).
 
Listening to talk radio really helps when I'm running NM Mephisto over and over and over with my Zealer. Shock jock radio on Fridays, and John B. Wells on Saturdays.

Belgian beers are also a must.
