I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in sharing what their setup looks like. When you're sitting down to your computer and spending hours playing, it's important to be comfortable. Would anyone else care to post their setup?

I want to brag a little bit here. That desk is a project I thought about for years. I couldn't find a quality desk that I liked with the exception of an Amish made desk. However, the $$ was way above what I was willing to spend. (For those of you that don't live in the Midwest, we have the luxury here of being able to have VERY NICE furniture made by the plethora of Amish that reside here.)

I spent months looking at desk designs and trying to figure out what it is that I would want and enjoy for a long time. Then I saw this simple design. A butcher block on squared steel legs. So, I went to Lumber Liquidators and bought a builder's grade walnut butcher block. I spent a weekend sanding it and staining it. My next dilemma was finding the legs. I didn't have a metal working shop of my own so I couldn't build them myself. I found a shop on Etsy that is run by a husband and wife out of Maine. I talked to them about what I needed and they made the legs for me. The legs ran me almost $200. I tried to buy local but every shop I called quoted me at a higher price, which was surprising to me. It took about two months for the desk legs to get to me. I lined the legs up, drilled the holes, and attached the legs. Viola! My desk is finally born!

It's probably not a big deal to a lot of people but my work space greatly influences my productivity. This is also the first project I've ever really done with wood. I've never sanded anything let alone stained. So it was a valuable learning experience and I discovered that I actually really enjoy building things.

I'm waiting on a sale for the same builders grade walnut butcher block so I can build two night stands for my bed. It will be the same design but the surface area will be smaller. BTW, my desk is 36" x 60" with a 1 3/4" thickness. The depth was a big deal to me for a long time because before I bought this Dell XPS 15, I had a triple monitor setup with a gaming desktop. Despite my long list of steam games, I really only play Diablo II and occasionally Starcraft Brood War. This laptop is more suitable to my liking.

The monitor I'm using is an LG 27UD68-P. From the reviews it was the best 4k monitor under $500. I'm very happy with it. It's likely I'll buy a docking station (as I"m kind of in need of extra USB slots) and setup a triple monitor setup with my laptop. Not really for gaming. More for work purposes.

Long winded post, I know. I just get excited when I get to talk about this desk.

Haha yeah I know. I haven't had time to organize them yet. I'm trying to find a surge protector that can be screw mounted to the underside of my desk. From there, I'll handle the cord management. I still need to get a laptop stand for my laptop and mount the monitor. I just haven't had time yet to get those done.

Cool, post pictures when it's done! I've been having strong urges to turn my spare bedroom closet into a full on desk and entertainment area. If I get that started I'll take pictures.

I like cables, but then I don't like cables. This has been partly solved by discovering awesome velcro straps holding my cables together.
My friends all tell me I should go wireless. But then I see the struggle they have, and think - I am a cable person.
Or just very weird.

That's true. I've been looking for a good gaming mouse that's wireless. The ones I like don't come with a charger stand. This Logitech mouse that I spent $15 on two years ago has always been a great laptop mouse and I'll use it until it dies. The keyboard is a ducky shine zero. I only bought this one because it was on some sort of fire sale at Microcenter. I paid $40 for it.

@Zokar please do! I think that would be very cool to see.

I'm debating about running my wiring through the walls. I've got holes I've put in that I'm going to have to fix anyway. I think my roommate and I will be here for at least two years so I can't really find a reason not to.

@MizzouFTW Sorry man, I am just SO JEALOUS of that desk that I had to find something wrong with your setup!! Haha. I love desks with nothing underneath them. And there needs to be a ton of plain, flat space up top, the bigger the better. So you basically just build my dream desk. As for cable management, I can't even talk, my gf bundled mine and taped them with some sorta weird tape to the underside of my desk along the back, then down a leg. I didn't even have to do it, they must have really been bothering her!

@NorthDakota haha I completely understand. Cable management bugs me if it's not done properly too. Just an FYI, if you're really interested in a desk like this, go to your local lumber store and check out butcher blocks. I spent $400~ on the butcher block and ~$200 on the legs. It's justifiable because it's a furniture peace that won't break down on me and will survive many future moves.

@Kitteh you would be correct! I'm pretty blessed that Kansas City has quite a few trails here. I also have Knob Knoster state park about 50 miles away. I cut my teeth there. I used to be 235 lb's but I'm down to 198 now. Cut out fast food, started buying groceries, and started walking/running trails. Down to a 32" waste compared to the 36 I was at in jeans.

Trail running is the first thing that I suggest to people who want to get active. It is the form of running which is both hardest and also easiest on your body, its tougher, but it doesn't stress your musculature as much. Also, it is beautiful. I don't think that I would run if it was just polluted pavements.

My desk is... 'less' organised. Likewise though, that is how I like it, well used. Also, semester has begun so it is much more of a studying desk than a gaming desk just now, and I do my coursework on my Mac, so it is basically just Netflix for watching whilst studying :P

Well you don't make sense, so your test results are just staying in theme?
Lets hope its something as benign as that, shall we?

Keep us posted.
